    An Iterative Scheme for Leverage-based Approximate Aggregation

    The current data explosion poses great challenges to the approximate aggregation with an efficiency and accuracy. To address this problem, we propose a novel approach to calculate the aggregation answers with a high accuracy using only a small portion of the data. We introduce leverages to reflect individual differences in the samples from a statistical perspective. Two kinds of estimators, the leverage-based estimator, and the sketch estimator (a "rough picture" of the aggregation answer), are in constraint relations and iteratively improved according to the actual conditions until their difference is below a threshold. Due to the iteration mechanism and the leverages, our approach achieves a high accuracy. Moreover, some features, such as not requiring recording the sampled data and easy to extend to various execution modes (e.g., the online mode), make our approach well suited to deal with big data. Experiments show that our approach has an extraordinary performance, and when compared with the uniform sampling, our approach can achieve high-quality answers with only 1/3 of the same sample size.Comment: 17 pages, 9 figure

    Dismantling the Black Box: Understanding Consumers\u27 Motivations for the Usage of Live Streaming Shopping Platform

    Capturing consumers’ motivations for using the live streaming shopping platform (LSSP) can help guide the optimization of the platform and enhance shopping experience of consumers while watching live videos. Previous studies on user motivation typically explored technical and psychological antecedents of usage by considering the platform holistically. However, this black-box like treatment to the platform blurs the finer-grained details of consumer usage. This study takes a micro-level approach, disassembling the LSSP into 13 representative design features, and refines nine user motivations based on the uses and gratifications theory. Through collecting 237 questionnaires and employing regression analysis, we reveal the nuanced relationship between platform design features and consumer motivations. Our findings show that different design features are driven by distinct motivations, diverging from overall LSSP usage motivations. This research broadens the scope of LSSP studies, improves platform functionality, and offers practical insights for service providers

    Controllable synthesis of biomimetic nano/submicro-fibrous tubes for potential small-diameter vascular grafts

    Mimicking the morphological structure of native blood vessels is critical for the development of vascular grafts. Herein, small-diameter composite vascular grafts that integrate the nanofibrous bacterial cellulose (BC) and submicrofibrous cellulose acetate (CA) were fabricated via a combined electrospinning and step-by-step in situ biosynthesis. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) observation shows the nano/submicro-fibrous morphology and well-interconnected porous structure of the BC/CA grafts. It is found that the BC/CA graft with a suitable BC content demonstrates lower potential of thrombus formation and enhanced endothelialization as compared to the BC and CA counterparts. Western blotting and RT-qPCR results suggest that the BC/CA-2 graft promotes endothelialization by improving expressions of genes vWF-1 and CD31 and protein CD31. The in vivo tests demonstrate much lower inflammatory response to the BC/CA graft.     Dl-3-n-butylphthalide attenuates cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury in mice through AMPK-mediated mitochondrial fusion

    Introduction: NBP is a compound isolated from celery seeds, which was approved by the National Medical Products Administration in 2002 for clinical treatment of ischemic stroke. However, in brain ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury, the related research on mitochondrial dynamics and its mechanism of action of NBP still need to be further studied. The aim of this study was to assess NBP on cerebral pathology in ischemic stroke in vivo, with a specific focus on the molecular mechanisms of how NBP promotes mitochondrial fusion.Methods: Male C57BL/6 mice were utilized in this study and were subjected to middle cerebral artery occlusion/reperfusion (MCAO/R). Pre-ischemia, NBP was administered through intraperitoneal (i.p.) injection for 7 days.Results: Our findings demonstrated that NBP effectively reduced infarct volume, improved neurological dysfunction, enhanced cerebral blood flow, and promoted mitochondrial fusion in mice subjected to MCAO/R. More importantly, the pro-fusion effects of NBP were found to be linked to the activation of AMPK/Mfn1 pathway, and with the activation of neurological function, which was partially eliminated by inhibitors of AMPK.Discussion: Our results revealed that NBP is a novel mitochondrial fusion promoter in protecting against ischemic stroke through the AMPK-mediated Mfn1. These findings contribute to the understanding of novel mechanisms involved in the protection of neurological function following NBP treatment for ischemic stroke
