The Background Geometry of DLCQ Supergravity
By following Seiberg's prescriptions on DLCQ of theory, we give the
background geometries of DLCQ supergravity associated with sector of DLCQ
of theory on with vanishingly small radii. Most of these are the
product of anti-de Sitter spacetimes and spheres, which have been found as the
spontaneous compactifications of eleven dimensional supergravity long time ago
and also are revisited recently by Maldacena by considering the near horizon
geometry of various D-branes in appropriate limit. Those geometries are
maximally symmetric and have full 32 supersymmetries of eleven dimensional
supergravity, which agrees with the number of supersymmetries of DLCQ of
theory. This suggests that DLCQ of theory is the /string theory on these
nontrivial background.Comment: 14 pages, Revtex, no figures, issues clarified and errors correcte
Covariant Description of D-branes in IIA Plane-Wave Background
We work out boundary conditions for the covariant open string in the type IIA
plane wave background, which corresponds to the D-branes in the type IIA
theory. We use the kappa symmetric string action and see what kind of boundary
conditions should be imposed to retain kappa symmetry. We find half BPS as well
as quarter BPS branes and the analysis agrees with the previous work in the
light cone gauge if the result is available. Finally we find that D0-brane is
non-supersymmetric.Comment: 13 pages, v3: one more reference added, version to appear in Physics
