Design of hybrid components joining zone through sensitivity analysis

    Get PDF
Multi-material structures are a trending topic for the industry. With a high application potential, such as lightweight or extended life cycle, different manufacturing technologies are further developed for this intent. One of these technologies is Tailored Forming, a process-chain capable of joining different metals and creating massive hybrid components. In parallel to this development, new challenges rise for design, which has the responsibility of finding an optimal use of this technology and produce higher-performance products. However, this task cannot be solved by conventional engineering approach, since strong manufacturing constraints are involved and a lack of understanding about the joining zone formed between the materials still exists. To fill this gap, the objective of this study is to analyse the influence of the joining zone design over the structure behaviour and establish a suitable design method. For that, a computer-aided environment was constructed and a parametric sensitivity analysis was executed, taking a hybrid shaft as example. At the end, the simulation's results allowed a multi-objective optimisation and were able to generate first design guidelines. © 2019 Design Society. All rights reserved

Mapping Knowledge Flows in ExploratoryWeb Searches

This paper provides an understanding of the knowledge flow in exploratory Web searches. Based on the Design Science Research epistemology, we represented the information-gathering behaviour and uncovered the knowledge flow of Web searchers as a Knowledge-intensive Process (KiP). By mapping searchers' steps and paths during Web searches, representing their search patterns and decision-making process, it was possible to reveal the knowledge flow and infer the resources more likely to be selected to meet the searchers' information needs. With the help of six teachers, we applied the Think-Aloud method in a scenario where they searched for online (educational) resources on the Web. The application of the Think-Aloud method made knowledge-flow processes explicit throughout Web searches. The results can support new strategies for information retrieval systems and be applied to support expertise exchange and innovation

Online Product Search with Focus on Customers\u27 Needs

The success of e-commerce depends on the Information Systems that support it. Currently, the most used approach in e-commerce systems is the faceted search, that requires the customer to be familiar with the technical specification, to find the products that best meet their needs. The aim of this research is to evaluate a novel proposal to improve the online product search. Our solution will automatically map products\u27 features with less technical criteria, which will replace the filters in a faceted search. To achieve this goal, we have adopted a multi-criteria analysis method to rank the result. The proposed solution was evaluated through an empirical experiment with some product categories, using as data set the reviews of experts retrieved from the web. Results showed a strong rank correlation between our solution and the expert reviews, proving its feasibility and effectiveness

Uma Revisão Sistemática sobre Descrição Semântica na Internet das Coisas

    Get PDF

The Play Your Process Method for Business Process-Based Digital Game Design

Serious games have been understood as a useful tool to engage, educate and train individuals in many areas. They are also suitable for the business processes management area where it is expected that business-process-based digital games can bring together players (process actors) to better understand and learn organizational business processes. This paper presents a game design method for the development of serious games which aims to provide business process understanding to players, as well as to allow them to reflect on process challenges and difficulties. The design of serious business process games requires game designers to have business process modeling skills and instructions on how to represent business process elements in the game context. This research was conducted using the Design Science Research Methodology, and addresses the challenge of providing a method for the design of serious business process games. The method receives business process models as input and comprises steps to (i) map business process elements into game design elements, game design and development, and (ii) evaluate games with game designers, process actors, and game players. In order to validate the method, a set of games was built and evaluated with players. The designed games were evaluated as to adequate quality, although fun and entertainment can still be improved, and players´ understanding regarding process increase after games are playe
