Phase diagram of the pairing symmetry in two-dimensional strong-coupling superconductors
Two-dimensional Eliashberg equations have been solved by use of a mixed
interaction with - and -channels.
It is discussed what kind of pairing symmetry of the superconducting state
can be realized when the channel mixing parameters and the band-filling are
varied.
By changing the mixing parameters and varying the chemical potential
between zero- and half-filling, the pairing symmetry is determined and
summarized into a phase diagram of the symmetry. It is revealed that there is
an effective threshold in for the appearance of the d-wave
superconductivity regardless of the strength of the -channel interaction. It
is also shown that, although the s-wave superconductivity can occur for any
value of if the -channel interaction is mixed sufficiently, the d-wave
superconductivity has the advantage of achieving a high over the s-wave

Siderophore for Lanthanide and Iron Uptake for Methylotrophy and Plant Growth Promotion in Methylobacterium aquaticum Strain 22A
Methylobacterium and Methylorubrum species are facultative methylotrophic bacteria that are abundant in the plant phyllosphere. They have two methanol dehydrogenases, MxaF and XoxF, which are dependent on either calcium or lanthanides (Lns), respectively. Lns exist as insoluble minerals in nature, and their solubilization and uptake require a siderophore-like substance (lanthanophore). Methylobacterium species have also been identified as plant growth-promoting bacteria although the actual mechanism has not been well-investigated. This study aimed to reveal the roles of siderophore in Methylobacterium aquaticum strain 22A in Ln uptake, bacterial physiology, and plant growth promotion. The strain 22A genome contains an eight-gene cluster encoding the staphyloferrin B-like (sbn) siderophore. We demonstrate that the sbn siderophore gene cluster is necessary for growth under low iron conditions and was complemented by supplementation with citrate or spent medium of the wild type or other strains of the genera. The siderophore exhibited adaptive features, including tolerance to oxidative and nitrosative stress, biofilm formation, and heavy metal sequestration. The contribution of the siderophore to plant growth was shown by the repressive growth of duckweed treated with siderophore mutant under iron-limited conditions; however, the siderophore was dispensable for strain 22A to colonize the phyllosphere. Importantly, the siderophore mutant could not grow on methanol, but the siderophore could solubilize insoluble Ln oxide, suggesting its critical role in methylotrophy. We also identified TonB-dependent receptors (TBDRs) for the siderophore-iron complex, iron citrate, and Ln, among 12 TBDRs in strain 22A. Analysis of the siderophore synthesis gene clusters and TBDR genes in Methylobacterium genomes revealed the existence of diverse types of siderophores and TBDRs. Methylorubrum species have an exclusive TBDR for Ln uptake that has been identified as LutH. Collectively, the results of this study provide insight into the importance of the sbn siderophore in Ln chelation, bacterial physiology, and the diversity of siderophore and TBDRs in Methylobacterium species
Stress relaxation arrested the mainshock rupture of the 2016 Central Tottori earthquake

Additional large earthquakes typically do not occur, despite the fact that the large static stress near the edges of the fault is expected to trigger further large earthquakes at these locations. Here we analyse ~10, 000 highly accurate focal mechanism solutions of aftershocks of the 2016 Mw 6.2 Central Tottori earthquake in Japan. We determine the location of the horizontal edges of the mainshock fault relative to the aftershock hypocentres, with an accuracy of approximately 200 m. We find that aftershocks rarely occur near the horizontal edges and extensions of the fault. We propose that the mainshock rupture was arrested within areas characterised by substantial stress relaxation prior to the main earthquake. This stress relaxation along fault edges could explain why mainshocks are rarely followed by further large earthquakes
Germline multigene panel testing revealed a BRCA2 pathogenic variant in a patient with suspected Lynch syndrome
There has been a rapid advance in germline multigene panel testing by next-generation sequencing, and it is being widely used in clinical settings. A 56-year-old woman suspected of having Lynch syndrome was identified as a BRCA2 pathogenic variant carrier by multigene panel testing. The patient was diagnosed with endometrial cancer at the age of 39 years, and total laparoscopic hysterectomy and bilateral salpingectomy were performed at the age of 49 years; however, bilateral oophorectomy was not performed at that time. As she had a family history of colorectal cancer and a history of endometrial cancer, Lynch syndrome was suspected. However, germline multigene panel testing revealed a pathogenic BRCA2 variant rather than pathogenic variants in mismatch repair genes. In this case, with conventional genetic risk assessment, we were unable to determine whether the patient had a high risk of hereditary breast and ovarian cancer; thus, germline multigene panel testing may provide valuable information to improve disease management strategies for patients in clinical settings. Particularly, germline multigene panel testing may be useful for detecting hereditary tumor syndromes if a patient does not present with a typical family history of cancer
Sugar Scrub Effects on Skin Barrier Function and Heat Retention in Low Birth Weight Infants
Objective: This investigation sought to compare changes in body heat after using a sugar scrub to bathe lowbirth weight infants (< 2,500 g), compared with those bathed using conventional baby soap, and to evaluatethe relationship between skin barrier function and changes in body heat.Design: Non-Randomized clinical trialsSetting: A neonatal intensive care unit in a university hospital in JapanParticipants: 22 Low birth weight infants for whom bathing was permittedMethods: Sebum quantity and skin temperature were each measured before and after bathing for a control groupbathed with conventional baby soap and a group bathed with a sugar scrub skin care product. Ethical approvalfor this study was obtained from Aino university of Ethics committee review board (Approval number/27)Results: The results demonstrated that both sebum quantity and skin temperature increased significantly afterbathing in the sugar scrub group compared with the baby soap group.Conclusion: Increases in sebum quantity are thought to influence the normal barrier function of skin and to helpretain skin temperature. This study suggests that the use of this skin care product can be expected to effectivelyhelp maintain body temperature in low birth weight infants, who are prone to low body temperature
Frequency of CD45RO+ subset in CD4+CD25high regulatory T cells associated with progression of hepatocellular carcinoma
金沢大学医薬保健研究域医学系The purpose of this study was to assess the properties of CD4+CD25high/low/negative T cell subsets and analyze their relation with dendritic cells (DCs) in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). In HCC patients, the prevalence of CD45RO+ cells in CD4+CD25high T cells was increased and associated with higher frequencies of plasmacytoid DCs. Larger proportions of this T cell subset were detected in the patients with larger tumor burdens. These results suggest that increased frequencies of the CD45RO+ subset in CD4+CD25high Tregs in HCC patients may establish the immunosuppressive environment cooperatively with tolerogenic plasmacytoid DCs to promote disease progression of liver cancer. © 2011
