Rates of convergence for Renyi entropy in extreme value theory

Max stable laws are limit laws of linearly normalized partial maxima of independent identically distributed random variables. Saeb (2014) proves that the Renyi entropy of order b (b > 1) of linear normalized maximum of iid random variables with continuous differentiable density is convergent to the Renyi entropy of order b of the max stable laws. In this paper, we study the rate of convergence result for Renyi entropy for linearly normalized partial maxima.Comment: arXiv admin note: text overlap with arXiv:1402.094

Background: Non-obstructive Azoospermia (NOA) mean absence of sperm in the ejaculate due to testicular failure. The sole treatment till now for them is testicular sperm retrieval and ICSI. There is no single test can predict precisely the presence of sperm in testicular the testis. Several studies around the world hypothesized that testicular hormone especially inhibin B can make decision about the sperm retrieval. The objective of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of serum inhibin B level in non-obstructive azoospermia as predictor for sperm retrieval by using testicular sperm extraction (TESE). Methods: This cross-sectional study carried out on 188 men with non-obstructive azoospermia. A detailed medical history, physical examination, age, duration of infertility and BMI was recorded. Men with obstructive azoospermia are excluded from the study. About 5 ml of venous blood taken from them to measure serum inhibin B, FSH, LH, Prolactin and Testosterone before doing testicular sperm retrieval. Results: From the studied sample, (45.7%) were positive testicular sperm retrieval, while (54.3%) were negative sperm retrieval. the median level of INHB for the positive TESE was (54.7pg/ml) which is significantly higher than that for TESE negative (24pg/ml). With representation of INHB values on ROC curve, the sensitivity was 70.9% and specificity was 50% with cutoff 24 pg/ml. Conclusion: Inhibin B is significantly higher in TESE positive patients but with not far enough sensitivity and specificity to predict the presence of sperm

The research of the exhaled breath condensate (EBC) is important in the study of a number of indicators that characterize the local homeostasis of the respiratory system. The aim of the research was to study the direction and the degree of the changes in the EBC LC-spectra of the patients with tuberculosis according to the clinical nature of the tuberculous process established certain patterns of metabolic changes of a local nature. The noninvasiveness of the laser correlation spectroscopy (LCS) method, the high sensitivity and speed of the native material research opens up the possibility of using it in phthisiology

Cure Kinetics of Epoxy Nanocomposites Affected by MWCNTs Functionalization: A Review

The current paper provides an overview to emphasize the role of functionalization of multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) in manipulating cure kinetics of epoxy nanocomposites, which itself determines ultimate properties of the resulting compound. In this regard, the most commonly used functionalization schemes, that is, carboxylation and amidation, are thoroughly surveyed to highlight the role of functionalized nanotubes in controlling the rate of autocatalytic and vitrification kinetics. The current literature elucidates that the mechanism of curing in epoxy/MWCNTs nanocomposites remains almost unaffected by the functionalization of carbon nanotubes. On the other hand, early stage facilitation of autocatalytic reactions in the presence of MWCNTs bearing amine groups has been addressed by several researchers. When carboxylated nanotubes were used to modify MWCNTs, the rate of such reactions diminished as a consequence of heterogeneous dispersion within the epoxy matrix. At later stages of curing, however, the prolonged vitrification was seen to be dominant. Thus, the type of functional groups covalently located on the surface of MWCNTs directly affects the degree of polymer-nanotube interaction followed by enhancement of curing reaction. Our survey demonstrated that most widespread efforts ever made to represent multifarious surface-treated MWCNTs have not been directed towards preparation of epoxy nanocomposites, but they could result in property synergism

Isolated trochlear shear fracture of the distal humerus: a case report

Laugier was the first to describe an isolated humeral trochlea fracture in 1853. We report the case of a patient with an isolated fracture of the trochlea and discuss the underlying mechanisms and the clinical, radiological features of this pathology and surgical management of this rare fracture. The elbow arthrotomy was done via an anteromedial approach, with the interval through the flexor-pronator muscles medially and the brachialis muscle laterally. The trochlea was temporally fixed by two Kirschner wires, and the definitive fixation was obtained by two cannulated. Herbert screws from anterior to posterior. The elbow was immobilized and splinted in a flexed position (70 degrees) for two weeks to allow soft tissue healing and minimize pain. After cast removal, rehabilitation of elbow was established and actively assisted mobilization for three months. The isolated trochlea fracture is a rare injury and usually, it is associated with other injuries such as elbow dislocation. Few studies in the literature described such fracture and the anteromedial approach; most of these studies described the use of a direct medial approach to the elbow. Several fixation methods were described in the literature, including k-wires, AO compression screws, and headless compression screws. Isolated fracture of the trochlea is rare. The mechanisms causing this fracture are complex; the usual mechanism of isolated trochlear fractures is falling on the palm with the elbow extended and supinated. In our report, the patient disclosed that he felt directly on his flexed elbow. Trochlear fractures require open reduction and internal fixation to achieve anatomical reduction, with excision of the small osteochondral fragments that may be complicated by arthritic changes
