    The Sustainable University

    The paper attempts to leverage theoretical constructs and practical ideas into conceptualizing the “sustainable university”. We propose an academic management approach that could improve the prospects for sustainability of a university’s evolution. Based on a literature review and documentary research, we researched modern trends, patterns and practices of academic management, supportive of sustainability. Like any organization, a university is a structure subjected to the pressures of change and affected by its consequences. Due to its mission and social function, a university should follow an ascending road to high performance and demonstrate staying power and lasting success. It is in this view that we investigated concepts and practices of corporate management applicable to academic management.     Preparation of biomimetic species from iodophenylalanine

    Sodium Bis (4-(2,3-diaminopropyl)phenyl)phosphinate (Na-BDAP) ligand has been designed to self-assemble in the presence of an appropriate metal ion forming a structure able to interact preferentially with hydrophobic, anionic guests;Cations such as Zn2+, Pd2+ and Co3+ have specific functional and structural roles in the constitution of these macrocycles, differentiating their binding affinities and geometries from those found for earlier studied hosts. Pd-catalyzed couplings using t-butylphosphinates are key steps in the synthesis of the ligand. The directed synthesis and preliminary study of an isolable Co(III) complex of the BDAP-ligand is described along with the possible applications of these macrocyclic complexes in catalysis and stereoselective binding.* ftn*Please refer to the dissertation for diagram

    Rehabilitation of Mature Gas Fields in Romania: Success Through Integration of Management Processes and New Technology

    Nature oil and gas fields are difficult to rehabilitate effectively because of the economics of declining production. Many fields are abandoned prematurely when their life could be prolonged significantly through application of new technology. Romgaz (a national exploration and production company) and Schlumberger (an integrated oilfield services company) developed a new business model to overcome these obstacles. The key to success of this model, which is being applied to gas fields in the Transylvanian basin of Romania, is the shared risk and shared reward for the two companies. Integrated management processes addressing the complete system from reservoir to wellbore to surface/transmission facilities and application of new technology (logging, perforation, etc.) have resulted in multifold increases in production

    Studies concerning mass and heat transfer on B7 structured packing

    The paper presents theoretical and experimental data concerning mass and heat transfer on B7 structured packing, used for deuterium separation in distillation column. The first section of the paper is dedicated to mass transfer study for hydrogen distillation, and the second section to mass and heat transfer for water distillation. Mathematical model verification was carried out with experimental data, obtained from two laboratory distillation plants for deuterium separation. The experimental data concerning B7 ordered packing efficiency for hydrogen cryogenic distillation at about –250 °C level were obtained from the first plant, and the second plant provided data concerning mass and heat transfer on the same packing for deuterium separation by water vacuum distillation at about 60 °C level. Height of transfer unit and mass and heat transfer coefficients, evaluated theoretically and experimentally, are comparable with those from chemical industry separation processes. This fact justifies the use of multi-tubular column model or transfer process description at distillation column equipped with B7 structured packing

    Brownfield management opportunities to reduce the back pressure effects on the gas wells

    Gas mature fields are associated with challenges to optimize the hydrocarbon flow from reservoir to the sales point in a cost effective manner due to declining well productivity. Laslau Mare field is a mature gas field in Transylvanian basin (Mures County) developed in 1970s and is producing∼99% methane with low water-gas ratio. As any brown field, the state of depleted reservoir will generate several constraints for gas flow from formation to surface facilities and further to delivery point. During the exploitation has been observed that the operation conditions are facing with unstable pressure in the system due to low demand. Therefore, the back pressure effect will affect the wells in terms of inability to unload the bottomhole accumulated liquids and the reservoir will suffer a higher pressure drawdown. The best fit-for-purpose solution to overcome the above challenges is represented by installation of group compressor. Laslau Mare field has 3 group compressors running and shows positive results, especially when external pressure fluctuates continuously. This paper explain the challenges seen in 2016 in Laslau Mare field with back pressure effects and how the compression overcome them, and also other solutions that should be considered to optimize the well production
