    An approach for computing AS/R systems travel times in a class-based storage configuration

    This study provides an approach to compute the travel time for AS/R systems in a class-based storage environment. A regression analysis is completed in order to define the importance of the key predictors taken into account and to propose a formulation of travel times. The results show the reliability of the model and allow to evaluate the travel time through the identification of a complete list of predictors. The proposed approach supports managers in theex-ante definition of travel times for a warehouse. A correct evaluation of travel times enables a better monitoring of the performance of warehouse operations and can support practitioners in the choice of the configuration not only in terms of kind of cycle, but also from a policy assignment perspective. From a theoretical point of view, this work can be considered as an attempt to refine the existing methods to compute travel times

    Cuantificación simultánea de colorantes en bebidas deportivas utilizando espectroscopia visible y PLS-1

    En este trabajo se propone un nuevo procedimiento para la cuantificación de cuatro colorantes artificiales: rojo allura, azul brillante, tartrazina y amarillo ocaso, presentes en bebidas hidratantes de la marca Gatorade y Powerade. Se aplico espectroscopía visible y calibración multivariada. Los datos fueron tratados con el programa Matlab y la rutina MVC1 aplicando el método PLS-1. Los resultados de las predicciones aplicando este nuevo método, se compararon estadísticamente con los obtenidos aplicando el método de referencia (cromatografía líquida), en todos los casos los resultados fueron comparables. La desventaja es que el amarillo ocaso no pudo ser cuantificado por este método, aunque su presencia no interfiere con la determinación de los otros tres colorantes. Puede concluirse que este método es fácilmente aplicable para el control de calidad de colorantes en bebidas comerciales en laboratorios de baja complejidad, sin necesidad de recurrir a técnicas separativas y reactivos contaminantes.Fil: Rodríguez, María Celeste.     Source characterization guidelines for noise mapping of port areas

    Maritime transport for both passengers and freight is continuously increasing and, consequently, the global attention toward its sustainability is growing. Ships offer advantages in terms of environmental impact compared to other transportation systems but the increasing traffic volume is expected to increase pollutants. Noise produced in port areas has been neglected for too long, until the INTERREG Maritime programme Italy-France 2014\u20132020 has brought to light how citizen complaints are emerging for some of the main ports in the Mediterranean. However, port noise prevention and management is difficult as knowledge on specific sources is very limited in the literature. Furthermore, on field measurements are difficult to be performed given the complexity of the port area, where multiple types of sound emitters mix and confuse each other. Noise maps represent the first important step in order to align ports to the requirements set by the Environmental Noise Directive to the transportation infrastructures. Once computed, they are an excellent tool supporting port management towards the reduction of citizens\u2019 noise exposure while ensuring traffic growth. The present paper reports a guideline for the characterization of noise sources needed as inputs for the noise maps, as developed in the framework of the INTERREG Maritime programme Italy-France 2014\u20132020. On the basis of the current state of the art, a procedure has been elaborated for different categories of noise sources acting in port, ranging from stationary to moving ships, from mooring operations to loading/unloading operations, from industrial activities to road and railway traffic

    Optimization Model of a Tandem Water Reservoir System Management

    This paper presents a complex approach for modelling of a tandem reservoir systems for water drainage management. The model has been built over a segment of a river with a certain parameters of water inflow, water outflow, required power production and max possible flood occurrence. Then the segments may be replicated with specific parameters to simulate whole system of the river. The model has been optimized in order to obtain the water drainage operation policy with regards of current and expected water volumes in the reservoirs ratio, required power production revenue, and minimal flood occurrence. Model has been verified on a walk-through basis. The obtained results demonstrate good reliability disregards broad possible variations of the managed parameters and provide the optimal water drainage for minimum flood occurrence and desired power production revenue

    Detection of influenza A(H1N1)pdm09 virus in a patient travelling from Shanghai to Italy in July 2018: An uncommon clinical presentation in a non-seasonal period

    Influenza is one of the most common infectious diseases in travellers, especially in those returning from subtropical and tropical regions. In late June 2018 an influenza A(H1N1)pdm09 virus infection was diagnosed in a 36-years-old man, returned from a travel in Shanghai and hospitalized at the Ospedale Policlinico San Martino, Genoa, Italy, with a diagnosis of fever and an uncommon clinical presentation characterised by a persistent leukopenia. Phylogenetic analysis revealed a closeness with influenza A(H1N1)pdm09 strains circulating in the US in May-June 2018. Prompt recognition of influenza infection led to a proper case management, demonstrating the crucial role of the continuous influenza surveillance programme
