Angular Momentum of a Brane-world Model
In this paper we discuss the properties of the general covariant angular
momentum of a five-dimensional brane-world model. Through calculating the total
angular momentum of this model, we are able to analyze the properties of the
total angular momentum in the inflationary RS model. We show that the
space-like components of the total angular momentum of are all zero while the
others are non-zero, which agrees with the results from ordinary RS model.Comment: 8 pages; accepted by Chinese Physics
Magnetotransport and spin dynamics in an electron gas formed at oxide interfaces
We investigate the spin-dependent transport properties of a two-dimensional
electron gas formed at oxides' interface in the presence of a magnetic field.
We consider several scenarios for the oxides' properties, including oxides with
co-linear or spiral magnetic and ferroelectric order. For spiral multiferroic
oxides, the magnetoelectric coupling and the topology of the localized magnetic
moments introduce additional, electric field controlled spin-orbit coupling
that affects the magneto-oscillation of the current. An interplay of this
spin-orbit coupling, the exchange field, and of the applied magnetic field
results in a quantum, gate-controlled spin and charge Hall conductance
Design the "Building in Construction" for the progress-users: a 4D perspective
The implementation of Building Information Modeling (BIM) is driving and enabling a paradigm shift in building design methods. Traditional architectural design process focuses on the design of “form, space and order” of the built environment, responding to the need and demand of the clients, the “end-users”. Under this professional paradigm, construction workers, the builders, are part of the construction machine to turn the design into reality. However, the “building in construction” is the working environment of builders, in which they spend most of their time in their everyday lives. They are “progress-users” of the building environment, a changing environment composed of building components, scaffolds, moving equipment and temporary facilities. They are performing various activities, which has a great impact on their physical and psychological health, and more importantly, their safety. If we add the time dimension into the building process, the concept of “user” needs to be extended and the dynamic environment needs to be taken into account at the stage of architectural design. This paper argues for an alternative perspective on the built environment and proposes a methodology for sustainable architectural design through the implementation of BIM.postprin
A Morphological Approach to the Pulsed Emission from Soft Gamma Repeaters
We present a geometrical methodology to interpret the periodical light curves
of Soft Gamma Repeaters based on the magnetar model and the numerical
arithmetic of the three-dimensional magnetosphere model for the young pulsars.
The hot plasma released by the star quake is trapped in the magnetosphere and
photons are emitted tangent to the local magnetic field lines. The variety of
radiation morphologies in the burst tails and the persistent stages could be
well explained by the trapped fireballs on different sites inside the closed
field lines. Furthermore, our numerical results suggests that the pulse profile
evolution of SGR 1806-20 during the 27 December 2004 giant flare is due to a
lateral drift of the emitting region in the magnetosphere.Comment: 7 figures, accepted by Ap
A study on inclusion formation mechanism in alpha-LiIO sub 3 crystals
The spatial distribution of inclusions in alpha-LiIO3 crystals by means of an argon laser beam scanning technique is studied. The effects of crystal dimensions and solution fluid flow on the inclusion formation in the alpha-LiIO3 crystals were observed. It was further shown that the fluid flow plays an important role in the formation of inclusions. The results obtained were further applied and verified by growing a perfect alpha-LiIO3 single crystal. An experimental foundation for further theoretical studies on the causes of inclusions may be provided
