Recombinant gas vesicles from Halobacterium sp. displaying SIV peptides demonstrate biotechnology potential as a pathogen peptide delivery vehicle
<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Previous studies indicated that recombinant gas vesicles (r-GV) from a mutant strain of <it>Halobacterium sp</it>. NRC-1 could express a cassette containing test sequences of SIVmac <it>gag </it>derived DNA, and function as an antigen display/delivery system. Tests using mice indicated that the humoral immune response to the <it>gag </it>encoded sequences evoked immunologic memory in the absence of an exogenous adjuvant.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>The goal of this research was to extend this demonstration to diverse gene sequences by testing recombinant gas vesicles displaying peptides encoded by different SIV genes (SIV<sup><it>tat</it>, <it>rev </it>or <it>nef</it></sup>). Verification that different peptides can be successfully incorporated into the GvpC surface protein of gas vesicle would support a more general biotechnology application of this potential display/delivery system. Selected SIVsm-GvpC fusion peptides were generated by creating and expressing fusion genes, then assessing the resulting recombinant gas vesicles for SIV peptide specific antigenic and immunogenic capabilities. Results from these analyses support three conclusions: (i) Different recombinant <it>gvpC</it>-SIV genes will support the biosynthesis of chimeric, GvpC fusion proteins which are incorporated into the gas vesicles and generate functional organelles. (ii) Monkey antibody elicited by <it>in vivo </it>infection with SHIV recognizes these expressed SIV sequences in the fusion proteins encoded by the <it>gvpC</it>-SIV fusion genes as SIV peptides. (iii) Test of antiserum elicited by immunizing mice with recombinant gas vesicles demonstrated notable and long term antibody titers. The observed level of humoral responses, and the maintenance of elevated responses to, Tat, Rev and Nef1 encoded peptides carried by the respective r-GV, are consistent with the suggestion that <it>in vivo </it>there may be a natural and slow release of epitope over time.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>The findings therefore suggest that in addition to providing information about these specific inserts, r-GV displaying peptide inserts from other relevant pathogens could have significant biotechnological potential for display and delivery, or serve as a cost effective initial screen of pathogen derived peptides naturally expressed during infections <it>in vivo</it>.</p

Materials used in cable manufacture are copper, aluminum, rubber and polyvinyl chloride. One of the key issues in managing the flow of goods pertains to the timing of procurement. The combination of the two concepts can take advantage of individual strengths of fuzzy logic and neural networks in hybrid systems of homogeneous structure. The model has high practical significance, as, with minor modifications, it can be applied in any enterprise responsible for managing the goods flows

U ovom radu ce se istraživati da li se i kako dihotomija izmedu religije i (homo)seksualnosti odnosi na religijsko-politicke konfiguracije i grupisanja u razlicitim nacionalnim kontekstima Zapadnog Balkana. Analiza odnosa izmedu etnonacionalizma, religije i (posebno) homoseksualnosti u postkonfliktnim druŔtvima objaŔnjava kako funkcioniŔe religijski nacionalizam, privilegujuci heteronormativnost, provocirajuci i podržavajuci homofobnu kulturu. U radu autori predlažu okvir za analizu javnog diskursa koji ce doprineti savremenoj naucnoj debate o strategijama i ideoloŔkim pretpostavkama, interesima i posledicama trenutne konstrukcije (homo)seksualnosti i religije u javnom diskursu. Ovo komparativno istraživanje fokusira se na tri razlicita medijska i religijskokulturoloŔka konteksta: Srbiju, Bosnu i Hercegovinu i Hrvatsku
Development of polymer packaging for power cable
This paper discusses the issues of product design and the procedure of developing polymer packaging as one of the most important engineering tasks. For the purpose of packing power cables a polymer packaging has been designed in the form of drum. Packaging and many other consumer products are largely produced using polymeric materials due to many positive features. High Density Polyethylene is the type of polyethylene proposed for packaging purposes due to its low degree of branching and strong intermolecular forces. Transport and storage processes were automated based on the radio-frequency identification technology. The proposed system is flexible in terms of its possibility of accepting and processing different types of cables and other products

This paper examines the existing models for predicting pavement temperatures and formulates a new one using a regression equation to predict the minimum and maximum pavement surface temperatures depending on the air temperature. Also, the paper presents a model for pavement temperature prediction according to the Superpave methodology and conducts the validation of the model for measured temperatures.U Älanku su predstavljeni postojeÄi modeli za predikciju temperature kolnika i formuliran je novi model pomoÄu regresione jednadžbe kojom se predviÄaju minimalne i maksimalne temperature povrÅ”ine kolnika u ovisnosti od temperature zraka. Dizajn modularnog sutava plastiÄnih euro paleta
Although pallet, as a tool, yields significant and widely recognized economic effects in production and distribution systems, it is still not fully utilized, indicating that it needs to be defined and developed as a specific product. Euro pallet product was designed using PRO/ENGINEER software system CAD module, as one of the most popular Cax systems, yielding a pallet of novel modular design that meets all the operational requirements of the existing range. The chosen material ensures high pallet longevity and durability, in line with the concept of sustainable development.Paleta kao sredstvo za rad ima izuzetan znaÄaj i poznate ekonomske efekte u proizvodnim i distributivnim sustavima. MeÄutim, odnos prema paleti kao proizvodu, nije proporcionalan njenom ukupnom znaÄaju. Obrazloženi aspekti neizostavno ukazuju na potrebe definiranja i razvoja palete kao specifiÄnog proizvoda. Dizajn proizvoda plastiÄne euro palete je izveden u CAD modulu programskog sustava PRO/ENGINEER kao jednog od najpoznatijih CAx sustava. Dobijena je paleta novog modularnog koncepta koja ispunjava sve radne zahtjeve postojeÄih paleta. Izborom materijala je dobijena dugotrajnija paleta koncepta održivog razvoja
