    VISUAL ANALYSIS OF THE CLASSROOM TEACHER CANDIDATES’ METAPHORICAL PERCEPTIONS RELATED TO THE MATHEMATICS COURSE

    The aim of this study is to evaluate the classroom teacher candidates’ metaphorical perceptions about the mathematics course through the visuals they create. The sample of the study consists of 36 classroom teacher candidates studying at a state university in Istanbul. The case study, which is one of the qualitative research methods, was used as the research design of this study. As a data collection tool, the metaphorical perception form prepared by the researchers, which includes the instruction “Draw what comes to your mind first when we say mathematics lesson and explain the drawing you have created” was used. In the analysis of the data, the visuals created by the teacher candidates or the pictures they drew were analyzed in detail. The metaphors formed by the classroom teacher candidates within the scope of the sample have been grouped under 4 categories: affective situations, impact on life, school and classroom environment, mathematical expressions and concepts in line with the opinions of the experts. As a result of the study, it was seen that the classroom teacher candidates mostly expressed the school and the classroom environment related to the mathematics lesson. In addition, it was found that mathematical expressions and concepts were also found to be an effective factor related to mathematics lesson by teacher candidates. Another finding is the association between mathematics lesson and daily life. Expressions such as being happy-unhappy, anxiety, confusion, and love when it comes to mathematics lessons are also the findings in the affective states category. Recommendations for the research and researchers were given by discussing the research findings. Article visualizations

    INVESTIGATION OF SCIENCE TEACHERS' VIEWS ON KAHOOT, SOCRATIVE, QUIZIZZ AND MY QUIZ APPLICATIONS, WHICH ARE WEB 2.0 BASED ASSESSMENT AND EVALUATION TOOLS

    In this study, it is aimed to examine the views of Science teachers about Kahoot, Socrative, Quizizz and My Quiz applications, which are Web 2.0 based assessment-evaluation tools. The study group of the research consists of 5 science teachers working in public schools in Karapınar district of Konya province in the 2022-2023 academic year. The study group was selected by convenience sampling method, which is one of the purposive sampling methods. The phenomenology design, which is one of the qualitative research methods, was used in the research. The data were obtained with a semi-structured interview form. The pilot study of the questions in the interview form was carried out with a total of 3 science students who were outside the study group and volunteered for the interview. After the pilot study, it was checked whether the interview form was clear, understandable and suitable for examining the research problem, and the semi-structured interview form was given its final form. After the semi-structured interview form applied to the study group, the data were evaluated by content analysis and the findings obtained in this context; It is gathered under three main themes as Cognitive Competence, Affective Competence and Technological Competence. Each theme is grouped into sub-themes. Science teachers stated that the Web 2.0-based assessment and evaluation tools Socrative, Kahoot, Quizizz, and My Quiz applications mostly attract attention, contribute to meaningful and permanent learning, and help in collecting motivation.     COVID-19 in pediatric nephrology centers in Turkey

    Background/aim: There is limited data on COVID-19 disease in children with kidney disease. We aimed to investigate the characteristics and prognosis of COVID-19 in pediatric nephrology patients in Turkey. Materials and methods: This was a national, multicenter, retrospective cohort study based on an online survey evaluating the data between 11th March 2020 and 11th March 2021 as an initial step of a detailed pediatric nephrology COVID-19 registry. Results: Two hundred and three patients (89 girls and 114 boys) were diagnosed with COVID-19. One-third of these patients (36.9%) were between 10–15 years old. Half of the patients were on kidney replacement therapy: kidney transplant (KTx) recipients (n = 56, 27.5%), patients receiving chronic hemodialysis (n = 33, 16.3%) and those on peritoneal dialysis (PD) (n = 18, 8.9%). Fifty-four (26.6%) children were asymptomatic. Eighty-two (40.3%) patients were hospitalized and 23 (28%) needed intensive care unit admission. Fifty-five percent of the patients were not treated, while the remaining was given favipiravir (20.7%), steroid (16.3%), and hydroxychloroquine (11.3%). Acute kidney injury developed in 19.5% of hospitalized patients. Five (2.4%) had MIS-C. Eighty-three percent of the patients were discharged without any apparent sequelae, while 7 (3.4%) died. One hundred and eight health care staff were infected during the study period. Conclusion: COVID-19 was most commonly seen in patients who underwent KTx and received HD. The combined immunosuppressive therapy and frequent exposure to the hospital setting may increase these patients’ susceptibility. Staff infections before vaccination era were alarming, various precautions should be taken for infection control, particularly optimal vaccination coverage

Su ürünleri denilince ilk akla gelen balık olmasına rağmen, birçok ülke besinsel değerinin yüksek olmasından dolayı balık dışında diğer su ürünlerinden de faydalanma yoluna gitmişlerdir. Dünyada, balık dışında değerlendirilen su ürünlerinden birisi de denizanasıdır. Denizanası binlerce yıldır ticari amaçla Çinliler tarafından önemli bir gıda olarak kullanılmaktadır ve her yıl kendi iç pazarında 58 bin ton denizanası tüketmektedir. Yarı kurutulmuş denizanası Asya ülkelerinde oldukça popüler olup, milyonlarca dolarlık deniz ürünleri ticaretini temsil etmektedir. Denizanasının geleneksel işleme metotları su içeriğini azaltmak, pH’ı düşürmek ve tekstürü sertleştirmek için tuz (NaCl) ve şap (AlK[SO 4 ] 2 12 H 2 O)’dan oluşan bir karışımın kullanıldığı pek çok aşamadan oluşmaktadır.     Deniz ve tatlı sulardan sağlanan balıklar, beslenmemizde önemli ve besleyici bir yere sahiptir. Pek çok su ürünü, insan beslenmesi için mükemmel bir vitamin ve mineral kaynağıdır. Protein kaynakları içerisinde sindirilme derecesi yüksek olan su ürünleri diğer yüksek proteinli besinlerle karşılaştırıldığında yağ oranı bakımından oldukça düşüktür. Ayrıca, su ürünleri sağlığa yararı kanıtlanan n-3 serisi çok doymamış uzun zincirli yağ asitlerinin tek kaynağıdır. Yapılan çeşitli çalışmalarla su ürünlerinde bulunan iki predominant omega-3 ya ğ asiti Eicosapentaenoic asit (EPA) ve Docosahexaen oic asit (DHA)’in sağlık açısından olumlu etkide olduğu belirlenmiştir. Bu iki yağ asiti vücutta önemli biyokimyasal ve fizyolojik değişikliklere yol açar. Omega-3 yağ asitleri, insan sağlığını etkileyen kalp hastalığı , kanser, şeker hastalığı , yüksek tansiyon gibi hastalıkların önlenmesinde ve tedavisinde yararlı etkilerinden dolayı önerilmektedir.The fish obtained from sea and freshwaters are an important component in our nutrition. A great deal of seafood is a perfect vitamin and mineral source for nutrition of human. The protein in seafood is higher digestible form and its fat content is lower than foods with high protein. Besides, seafood is the only source of fatty acids with long chain polyunsaturated n-3 series evidenced benefit to health. According to various studies, of Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) which both are predominant omega-3 fatty acids ( ω -3) have positive effect from point of the health. These two fatty acids have been shown to cause significant biochemical and physiological changes in the body. Omega-3 fatty acids have been suggested to have beneficial effects in the prevention and/or treatment of major diseases affecting human health; such as coronary heart disease, cancer, diabet es and high blood pressure

    Fatty acid profile and proximate composition of the thornback ray (Raja clavata, L. 1758) from the Sinop coast in the Black Sea

    The fatty acid and proximate composition in the flesh of thornback ray (Raja clavata, L. 1758) collected in the coast of Sinop in Turkey were evaluated. Proximate analyses of thornback ray are rich in protein (20.02%) and low in lipid (0.51%). The crude ash and moisture contents were found as 1.38% and 77.47%, respectively. The total SFA, MUFA and PUFA content were 48.27%, 13.98% and 24.10% of total fatty acids, respectively. Palmitic acid (C16:0, 26.45%) and stearic acid (C18:0, 10.62%) were the dominant saturated fatty acids. The major unsaturated fatty acids were determined as docosahexaenoic acid (C22:6 n3, 12.21%), oleic acid (C18:1, 8.88%) and linoleic acid (C18:2, 3.43%). The results of this study have showed that thornback rays are good sources of protein. The atherogenic index (AI) and index of throm- bogenicity (IT) were calculated as 2.37 and 0.63, respectively

    Bu çalışmada sıcak dumanlamanın 41C de depolanan palamutun raf ömrüne etkisi araştırılmıştır. Taze balıkta 11,21 mg/100g TVB-N ve 1,19 mgN/100g TMA olarak bulunan değerler, dumanlama işleminden sonra depolama süresi boyunca yavaşça artmış ve 15.günde sırasıyla 36,33 g/100g ve 18,71 mgN/100g'a ulaşmıştır. pH değeri depolama süresi sonunda 5,97 olarak tespit edilmiştir. Mikrobiyolojik analizlere göre, 15. günde 3,8x103 CFU/g toplam mezofilik bakteri, 3,5x103 CFU/g maya, 2,1x102 CFU/g küf tespit edilmiştir. Sıcak dumanlanan ve 41C'de depolanan palamut balıklarının 15 güne kadar güvenle tükenebileceği sonucuna varılmıştır.The storage in chilled conditions of hot smoked bonito. In this study, the effects of hot smoking on shelf-life of bonito stored at 4±1°C were investigated. In fresh bonito, TVB-N and TMA-N values were found as 11.21 mg/100g and 1.19 mgN/100g respectively. During the storage periods, TVB-N and TMA values slowly increased and were determined as 36.33 mg/100g and 18.71 mgN/100g respectively at the end of the storage period. pH value didn't change significantly and was 5.97 at the end of the storage period. According to microbiological analysis made after smoking, total mesophilic bacteri counts 3.8x103 CFU/g, yeast 3.5x103 CFU/g, mould 2.1x102 CFU/g were found at 15th days. According to the results, the bonito hot smoked and stored at4±1°C can be safely consumed for 15 days

    Effect of fasting on smoking addiction: A multicentered primary care research

    Background: Smoking is a serious public health challenge across the world. Fasting in Ramadan requires people to stay away from smoking as well as activities such as eating, drinking, and sexual intercourse. We examined the effect of fasting on cigarette smoking and nicotine addiction during the Ramadan. Methodology: This study was designed as a descriptive cross-sectional survey. A questionnaire was prepared to determine sociodemographic data and smoking habits of a sample population. The questionnaire was delivered through face-to-face interviews at several family medicine clinics in Turkey, with smokers who fast in Ramadan. Results: There were 354 persons, of which 278 were male (78.5%), 76 were female (21.5%), and the mean age was 32.92 ± 11.84 years. A significant decrease in cigarette consumption during the Ramadan was reported by 285 (80.5%) smokers (p < .001). The number of smokers who had difficulty resisting the urge to smoke was less in Ramadan than non-Ramadan periods (p < .001). Religious sentiments were reported as the most important reason for coping with nicotine abstinence (53.7%). Significantly in 14.7% of the cases, participants stopped smoking during the whole period of Ramadan. Conclusions: Religious beliefs and willpower were found to be effective in helping people reduce or temporary stop smoking. Fasting may play a significant role in changing smoking behavior. Smoking cessation along with counseling supported by the state, health authorities, and clergy can be useful in the fight against smoking in Ramadan

    Postoperative pain after different irrigation activation techniques: A randomized, clinical trial

    The aim of this study was to assess the effectiveness of irrigation activation techniques on postoperative pain (PP) in mandibular premolar teeth with irreversible pulpitis after single-visit endodontic treatment. A total of 160 patients with symptomatic irreversible pulpitis were included in this prospective randomized clinical study. Four different activation methods were used in mandibular premolar teeth. In group 1, teeth were irrigated with side-port endodontic needles (NI) without any agitation; in groups 2 and 3, sonic activation was performed using EDDY and EndoActivator (EA), respectively; and in group 4, passive ultrasonic irrigation (PUI) was used. Patients' analgesic intake-as well as pain intensity during and after treatment-were recorded at 8, 24, 48 h and 7 days. The data relating to age, sex and analgesic intake was evaluated using the Chi-square test and the preoperative pain and PP intensity at different time intervals was evaluated with the Kruskal-Wallis test at a 5% significance level. Highest PP was recorded at 8 h, pain intensity decreased in all groups by the time. Pain in the NI group was found higher than that of EDDY group at 24 h (P 0.05). No statistically difference was found among the groups with regard to analgesic intake (P > 0.05). Although there were slight differences in PP levels between the groups at 24 h, pain levels decreased in all groups after 24 h. Activation of the irrigation solution did not make any difference in terms of PP after 24 h
