    Proton Microprobe Analysis in Biology

    Get PDF
This paper is intended as an introduction to the field of proton microprobe analysis with special emphasis on applications in biological sciences. It is mainly intended for users of electron microscopes equipped with microprobes or other analytical equipment. The basic principles of Particle Induced X-ray Emission analysis are discussed as well as the instrumental requirements for the proton microprobe. The analytical characteristics including quantification procedures are compared with those of the electron microprobe and a review is given of various analytical applications of the proton microprobe within biology and medicine

    Leys from a Nordic perspective

The project involved creating a popular scientific review of the cultivation and use of leys for livestock. Target groups are the agricultural sector and industry. The project had four work packages (WP): crop production, harvest and conservation, feed value for different animals, and economy. Within each work package, search strings were developed and inclusion criteria defined, and a database for each WP developed through searching in online databases. Each selected article was assessed first on the title (include or exclude), second based on reading the abstract, and third based on reading the article. The review provides an extensive list of literature related to ley production and use, a description of the most important findings, and suggestions for future research

Slowly pulsatine B stars discovered employing most guide star photometry

MOST entdeckten SPB Sterne dargestellt.MOST, the first Canadian space telescope (launched in June 2003), has been designed primarily to perform high-precision photometry of bright stars V < 6 mag nearly continuously over long time spans of up to 60 days. In the last five years, the capabilities of MOST have been extended and enhanced to allow photometry of stars as faint as V ~13.  MOST has monitored more than 1000 stars, most of which are guide stars in the fields containing Primary Science Targets. Many variable stars have been discovered in this large guide star sample, spread across the HR Diagram, including more than 23 SPB (Slowly Pulsating B) stars.  For this class of stars, MOST offers unprecedented time coverage, precision and frequency resolution. Data and frequency analysis of the SPB stars discovered by MOST are presented and discussed here
