    This study is an attempt to examine the experience of three generations of Chicana, women of Mexican descent in the United States, which is viewed from feminist perspective. The purpose of this study is to reveal the changing perspective of Chicanas toward their feminine identity that has been established by patriarchal Mexican and Catholicism cultures. The result of the study shows that the awareness on feminism existed in each generation stimulates the changing perspective toward the constructed feminine identity

    A Mothers Involvement in Preserving Patriarchal Power in Anita Desais Fasting, Feasting

    The issue of womens oppression is an actual issue which provokes endless discussion. This issue is the domain of feminists struggle until now. There are many theories of feminism in literature. This article employs psychoanalytic feminism approach to examine the relation between womens oppression and women's psyche to finally reveal that a mother (Mama) is involved in preserving the power of patriarchy in the family through her typical treatments toward her daughters (Uma and Aruna). Three conclusions can be drawn. Firstly, Mama is depicted as a narrow-minded, insecure, and status-oriented woman. Uma is an alienated, inferior and curious daughter. Aruna is a superior, status-oriented, and beauty-addicted daughter. Secondly, Mamas treatment reflects patriarchal values. She prioritizes her son to get nutritious food and qualified education. Mama burdens her daughters with great responsibilities to take care of the house, gives them less freedom for selfexpression, and teaches them that womens self-worth is determined by their physical attractiveness. Thirdly, there are two factors underlying Mamas involvement in preserving the power of patriarchy. The first factor is the influence of her mother who made distinctive treatments based on gender toward her children. The second factor is the influence of tradition that addresses child-rearing responsibilities to mothers. Fathers only set the rules, they do not participate in this duty.     This study examines the presence of mores as one aspect which constructs the social life in society as portrayed in Ibsens Ghosts. The mores as a manifestation of societys demands become important key aspect which may give influence in ones life in his efforts to build social interaction within the community. Through the mores, the societys expectation of ideal social situation is being projected. Some problems have been formulated as follows to see the way the major characters deal with the mores and the impact that may occur in their life. Firstly, it observes how the major characters are presented and what are the mores practiced. Secondly, it discusses what the impact of the mores on the major characters life that comes out as the result of major characters responses toward the mores. Based on the analysis, it shows that characters characteristics are various. The obdurate and conservative characteristic can be seen through Manders while Mrs. Alving is presented as an openminded and critical though she seems like a doubter. Being different is Oswald which is more expressive, liberal and rebellious. The various kinds of characteristics above have significant role in the way a character response the demands of the society (the mores). Meanwhile in the world of reality, sometimes what is considered as an ideal in mores is not always appropriate to be applied in the real condition. This dilemma may lead some people to give various responses or even behave recklessly in dealing with mores. Then, consequently, whatever the response taken or shown by the people in responding the mores at last will bring a new impact in their life as an individual.     Threads of Tradition: Native American Women’s Resistance and Resilience in Piatote’s “Beading Lesson”

    Resistance literature’s significance to empower the weak cannot be overemphasized. This article examines “Beading Lesson” by Native American (NA) women author, Beth Piatote. The short fiction highlights the importance of NA women’s roles within their communities. Utilizing the Indigenous feminist framework, this study applies seven analytical categories of resistance by Baaz et al. and integrates Southwick et al.’s concepts of resilience to examine how the narrator navigates through historical trauma and hardships. In the narrative, issues such as tumultuous relations with the U.S. government, exploitation, incarceration,  cultural erasure, and change of gender roles, are brought up in the story through the light-toned monologue of an aunt, the narrator,  who is teaching her niece how to bead. Contrasted to this backdrop of historical trauma and adversities is the narrator’s resistance and resilience embedded in her everyday actions. The findings revealed that the narrator employs discreet and non-confrontational forms of resistance demonstrated through routine activities such as beading, teaching, storytelling, and engaging in powwow rituals. These seemingly ordinary activities are actually powerful acts of resistance as they assert the narrator’s original gender role as keeper of tradition within the context of NA culture. The narrator’s resilience is firmly grounded in her strong sense of identity as an NA woman. By engaging in various forms of resistance, she not only challenges the oppressive system but also helps foster collective resilience in her community.     MENJAWAB KEBUTUHAN PEKERJA MIGRAN INDONESIA BERKETERAMPILAN BAHASA INGGRIS SEBAGAI BAHASA GLOBAL

    This paper aims to discuss the reasons and solutions why and how Indonesian Migrant Workers (IMWs), need to increase their English proficiency. We use a sociolinguistic approach to understanding the phenomenon of English as a Global Language including its history, social functions, prestige, and why its speakers gain better social status in society. Furthermore, we discuss the data we gained from dispersing questionnaires for need analysis in google forms to some networks of Indonesian in Hong Kong (59 correspondents). The data doubtlessly show they want to enhance their English mastery and intend to join our free online English course program. In the second year of the program (2022), we become more convinced in conducting the program for a longer run in the future, as unexpectedly the number of IMWs who want to join the course has raised four times (about three hundred from the expected ninety participants only), and have gained supports from various institutions such as the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesian in Hong Kong and Macau, and Indonesian Diaspora Network Global. As an academic institution, we are assured that the present program will be a valuable contribution for society, especially the IMWs.
