Analyzing Gene Expression Profiles of a Virus and its Host During Infection
In recent years, RNA sequencing has become an important part of gene expression analysis. RNA sequencing applications are used to study many aspects of RNA structure, expression, and translation. With developing technologies, RNA sequencing is used to learn more about the biology of RNA, helping to understand more about what RNA does under different conditions, such as when the RNA’s host is under attack from a virus. New RNA sequencing technologies allow researchers to learn more about what happens to the host when there is an attack from an outside source, such as a virus. RNA sequencing also tells the researcher how the attacker successfully attacks the host and how the host responds. In this study, RNA sequencing is used to understand how a bacterial virus attacks its bacterial host
A Study of navy Personnel\u27s Awareness of Career Opportunities: Is the Career Information Program Working?
To answer this goal the following objectives were established: 1. Determine if the Career Information Program is an effective tool for disseminating career information; 2. Determine if the Career Information Program is effective for assignment of sponsors for newly reporting personnel; 3. Assess whether the Professional Development Board is an active and ongoing process
Concussion competencies: a training model for school-based concussion management
This study reports on the use of ten knowledge competencies related to the behavioral management of concussion in schools. Trainings using these competencies as learning objectives were delivered to school personnel. This aims of the use of competencies in this way are to streamline the education of key stakeholders, to establish clear roles and responsibilities for constituents and equip individuals working with students following a concussion with the relevant knowledge to optimize outcomes. The majority of participants, primarily speech language pathologists working as related service providers in the schoolswhere the trainings occurred, judged the use of the competencies to be informative and useful to their practice both immediately following the training and at a 5-month follow-up. The greatest gains in knowledge were noted by those participants self-reporting the least amount of knowledge pre-training. Participants also ranked the perceived value and relative importance of each of the ten competencies
The effect of disinformation on democracy: The impact of Hungary's democratic decline
Hungary's democratic backsliding demonstrates that the Cold War era notion that more access to information will accelerate the spread of democracy is dying. For authoritarians, social media enabled disinformation is the weapon of choice because it challenges democratic institutional legitimacy. The popularity of the Sputnik V vaccine in Hungary indicates that, before Russia's invasion of Ukraine Russian influence was growing in the EU's backyard. By exploiting social, political, and economic inequalities in Hungary, Russia disinformation facilitated Victor Orban's consolidation of power ahead of the April 2020 elections. Democracies should adopt a new paradigm of state power projection that views robust domestic institutions as the way to confront the issue of social media enabled disinformation. Democracy's most effective weapon against disinformation is institutional legitimacy, socio-economic equality, and public participation in government
ASSESSING DECISION MAKERS’ COGNITIVE LOAD FOR A FIRST RESPONDER HEALTH MONITORING SYSTEM
Assessing cognitive load is one technique used in HCI research to assess user interface usability. Individual cognitive load often varies depending on the user interface design, data complexity, and type of decision making. Cognitive load can be measured using the NASA-Task Load Index. Being a first responder (FR) requires strenuous physical exertion in addition to coping with environmental hazards. This occupation is physically, mentally, and emotionally demanding. This study aims to measure the user’s cognitive load when using three different visualization monitoring first responders’ heart rate and heat index data using IoT technologies. Our goal is to identify an optimal visualization
Applying the Trajectories Conceptual Framework: A case study of an IoT health data monitoring application
We present a case study on the design and development of an IoT application, called Real-time Emergency Communication System for HAZMAT Incidents (REaCH). The REaCH application utilizes the latest IoT technologies to capture and monitor individual health data (heart rate, ECG, heat index) and provides an interactive dashboard to assist incident commanders to evaluate if a firefighter needs to be removed from the scene due to a potential threat to their health and well-being. In our study we examined the design and development of a dashboard utilizing the Trajectories Conceptual Framework (TCF) and Action Research (AR). The aim of this study is to analyze if TCF can guide the development of a dashboard from research to industry. Our study consists of four cycles that span from the requirement gathering phase to delivering a minimal viable product. We conclude that the integration of TCF and AR provides a solid approach to evaluate the design and develop a real-time health monitoring IoT dashboard. We also propose the addition of a Developer Trajectory to address the technical aspects and help guide both the front-end and back-end developers through the various stages of the applications development using IoT technology
