The effects of language on the reunification of Mexican families

The study examined the effects of language commonalities between Riverside County Children Services Division (CSD) social workers and parents in their reunification process. The study focused on gathering data to depict whether or not having a social worker that speaks the same language as the parents speak influences reunification success. This study strived to gather data from Mexican parents, as this seems to be a fast growing population that CSD serves. Data were extracted from 93 cases tht opened in the year 2008 to determine the impact of having a common language between the parents and the family reunification worker had on reunification success. The purpose of this study is to gain insight pertaining to what other elements impact the reunification process between parents and their child after CSD has been involved. One of the main goals of CSD is to reunite and maintain families together without the need of their involvement

A LEAN LOGISTICS ASSESSMENT TOOL FOR SMEs IN THE MANUFACTURING SECTOR

This study developed an assessment tool to rate the maturity of the current and desired states of lean logistics operations in small and medium enterprises. The tool consists of 48 best practices classified into 8 critical factors: Inventory, Transportation, Administration, Information Systems, Warehouse, Forecasting, Packaging and Supplier Network. Each of the best practices and critical factors were identified throughout a thorough literature review and comparative analysis between authors to define commonalities among them. Using gap analysis; this tool results in a SWOT matrix providing a roadmap for lean implementation. The resulting model was evaluated by subject matter experts in different criteria, including: clarity, content accuracy, relevance, content validity, avoidance of bias, appropriateness of language, and clarity of instructions. The evaluations resulted in some minor corrections but not important changes to the content were incorporated as result of these evaluations. This research project represents the initial steps to developing a self-assessment tool; additional work is required before the tool could actually be used for managers in SMEs

Hispanic Parent/Caregiver Health Literacy: Examining Effect on Pediatric Emergency Department Utilization

This study aimed to explore Hispanic parent/caregiver health literacy and emergency department (ED) utilization for children ages birth to 10 years of age from a single outpatient pediatric primary care office in Wilmington, Delaware. English language proficiency (ELP) was measured to determine whether ELP was a moderating variable for ED utilization in children of Hispanic parents/caregivers. The following research question was explored in this study: “Are there significant differences between levels of health literacy and emergency department utilization rates when controlling for level of English language proficiency in Hispanic parents/caregivers?” The research question was guided by the following hypothesis: “Hispanic parents/caregivers with higher levels of health literacy utilize emergency department services at lower rates when controlling for levels of English language proficiency.

High Gain Amplifier with Enhanced Cascoded Compensation

A two-stage CMOS operational amplifier with both, gain-boosting and indirect current feedback frequency compensation performed by means of regulated cascode amplifiers, is presented. By using quasi-floating-gate transistors (QFGT) the supply requirements, the number of capacitors and the size of the compensation capacitors respect to other Miller schemes are reduced. A prototype was fabricated using a 0.5 μm technology, resulting, for a load of 45 pF and supply voltage of 1.65 V, in open-loop-gain of 129 dB, 23 MHz of gain-bandwidth product, 60o phase margin, 675 μW power consumption and 1% settling time of 28 ns

Larval Distribution and Abundance of Carangidae (Pisces), from the Southern Gulf of Mexico, 1983-1984

The larval distribution and abundance of several taxa of the carangids from the southem Gulf of Mexico are analyzed, based on data from four oceanographic cruises conducted between 1983 and 1984. The material was collected with a bongo net fished to maximum depths of 200 m. The species collected were Chloroscombrus chrysurus (54.2%), Decapterus punctatus (15.8%), Trachurus Iathami (11.8%), Selene setapinnis (6.1%), Selar crumenophthalmus (6.0), Caranx hipposllatus (0.9%), Caranx crysos (0.7%) and Selene sp. (0.3%). The higher frequency of occurrence and greater abundance of larvae of all species was found over the continental shelf, and in some cases, in the oceanic zone near the slope. Almost all the species were present year-round with highest larval densities in the warm months, except for T. Iathami which occurred in greatest abundance during winter and early spring
