    Get PDF
Moodle also known as Learning Management System is freely available to educators. Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) encourages students and instructors to utilize the teaching and learning process. Moodle enables lecturer to create sequences and facilitate activities for their students, auto-marked online quizzes and exams, navigation tools, files download, grading, student progress tracking, online calendar, etc. This paper investigated the relationships between the constructs that may influence preservice teachers’ acceptance of Learning Zone (Moodle) in their learning process and assessing the influence of variation on performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence, facilitating conditions, hedonic motivation, and the habit to the behavioral intention or intention of usage. The Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology 2 (UTAUT2) is verified and found that the regression model revealed 29.5% of the variance in student’s intentions with facilitating conditions and hedonic expectancy are considerable predictors of the behavioral intention. Based on this, recommendations for prospect research in the application of UTAUT2 are discussed

Using facebook as a collaborative and communicative tool

    Get PDF
This study discusses the acceptance of the utilisation of Facebook as a communication tool and collaborative educational tool amongst secondary school students in the district of Kulim, Kedah, Malaysia. This study is based on the five constructs of the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) model proposed by Venkatesh, Morris, Davis and Davis (2003).These five constructs are performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence, facilitating conditions and behavioral intentions. The respondents for this study were 210 secondary school students who were randomly selected in the Kulim district. The data for this study was elicited through questionnaires adapted from Venkatesh et al. (2003).The data were analyzed using the Statistical Package for the Social Science (SPSS) and Partial Least Squares (SmartPLS).The results showed that performance expectations (PE) (ȕ =-0.018, p > 0.01), effort expectations (EE) (ȕ = 0.242, p > 0.01) facilitating conditions (FC) (ȕ = 0.330, p > 0.01and for social influence (SI) (ȕ = 0.260, p >0.01) do not have a significant positive impact on behavioral intentions (BI). The value for R2 = 0.532 indicates that 53.2 % of the variance in the use of Facebook applications for communication and collaboration can be explained by the BI.The study also revealed that the either PE, EE, SI or FC showed a significant correlation with the BI. These findings have an important implication for the development of education. The use of Facebook applications and other social media as a medium for collaboration and communication in the classroom could not promote quality teaching and learning. This study only examines the four constructs of the UTAUT model proposed by Venkatesh et al. (2003). However, given the model’s robustness in predicting user acceptance of technology, it is recommended that future studies look at different constructs such as attitudes and motivation, and also examine the moderating effects of age and sex on the BI and Use Behavior

    Get PDF
The concept of distributive leadership is a vital component of 21st century teaching practices. This study aimed to identify the dimensions that influence the development and implementation of science and mathematics teaching in dual language program schools. It was conducted with the help of over 336 teachers from 93 dual language program (DLP) schools in Malaysia. The distributive leadership readiness scale and 21st century skill (4C) questionnaire was used to collect data and analyze the effects of various dimensions on the development and implementation of science and mathematics teaching in dual language program schools. The results of the study revealed that the P3 model was associated with 14.9% (=.149) increase in the variance of 21st century teaching practices. The results of the analysis revealed that the changes in the three leadership style components included in the regenerating model were significant. The shared responsibility, leadership style and the combination of these dimensions contributed to the 12.9% (=.129) increase in variance. The research also found a positive relationship between 21st century teaching practices and the distributive leadership concept. The findings support the notion that distributive leadership can be a weak factor influencing the development and implementation of 21st century teaching practices

Previous studies more engaged to the level of technology leadership and the characteristics of technological leadership practiced by leaders in the school, while the factors of a more comprehensive which include facilities for ICT, competence, and commitment of teachers in the practices of applying ICT in the management which contributes a great impact on the management duties of teachers in schools has not been studied in Malaysia. The purpose of this study is to identify whether there is a positive relationship between technology leadership, ICT facilities, competence, commitment and practice of applying ICT teachers with effective management duties of teachers in schools using ICT. This quantitative study involves 370 teachers in secondary schools in the Kedah state which were selected randomly. The findings from the analysis of the study using the smartPLS show that there is a significant relationship between the leadership of technology by principals in school and the effectiveness of teacher-management tasks using computers in management tasks. Leadership that practices high technology leadership features will have a positive impact on the effectiveness of ICT integration within the organization. Further study can be conducted with integrating UTAUT model to identify critical factors that contributing technology leadership in schools

Exploring native speaker and non-native speaker accents: The English as a Lingua Franca perspective

    Get PDF
The relevance of the ideology of the native–speaker (NS) as a model and target in English language teaching (ELT) has over the recent years been increasingly questioned with the emergence of English as a Lingua Franca (ELF).Accents that do not conform to NS standards are termed as ‘foreign’ and are usually considered to be something to get rid of by training. This study examines how non-native speakers (NNS) of English view NNS accents in relation to NS accents. The findings show that the respondents consistently ranked NS accents higher than NNS in terms of correctness, acceptability, pleasantness and familiarity
