Background : The exposure of free radicals can induce oxidative stress. In the liver, this process will cause impaired liver function. Oxidative stress can be inhibited by antioxidants. Arrowroot tubers (Maranta arundinacea) contains phenolic, flavonoid, alkaloids and saponin compound that are potential as antioxidants. Objective : Determine the effect of ethanolic extract of arrowroot tubers (Maranta arundinacea) against oxidative stress using the parameter of MDA, SGPT and SGOT level in ethanol-induced rats. Methods : Animal models were divided into 5 groups, in which each group contained 6 rats. Group I (normal) and group II (control) was induced with CMC Na 0,5%. Group III, IV and V were given ethanolic extract of arrowroot tubers in the dosage of 125, 250 and 500 mg/Kg/day respectively. The extract was administered orally for 14 days. Induction of ethanol 5 gram/ KgBW was administered orally 1 hour after the last administration on day 14th except for group I. On day 15th, the animal blood was drawn to measure the levels of SGPT and SGOT, then the animals were sacrificed and their organs were analyzed to measure the levels of MDA in the liver. Data obtained in the form of MDA, SGPT and SGOT levels were statistically analyzed using ANOVA. Results : There is statistically significant difference between the utilization of ethanolic extract of arrowroot tubers (Maranta arundinacea) group with the control group in reducing the concentration of MDA (p<0,05), SGPT, and SGOT (p<0,05). Conclusions : The ethanolic extract of arrowroot tubers (Maranta arundinacea) is able to reduce the concentration of MDA, SGPT and SGOT in ethanol-induced rats

SummaryBackground Azithromycin has been proposed as a treatment for COVID-19 on the basis of its immunomodulatoryactions. We aimed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of azithromycin in patients admitted to hospital with COVID-19.Methods In this randomised, controlled, open-label, adaptive platform trial (Randomised Evaluation of COVID-19Therapy [RECOVERY]), several possible treatments were compared with usual care in patients admitted to hospitalwith COVID-19 in the UK. The trial is underway at 176 hospitals in the UK. Eligible and consenting patients wererandomly allocated to either usual standard of care alone or usual standard of care plus azithromycin 500 mg once perday by mouth or intravenously for 10 days or until discharge (or allocation to one of the other RECOVERY treatmentgroups). Patients were assigned via web-based simple (unstratified) randomisation with allocation concealment andwere twice as likely to be randomly assigned to usual care than to any of the active treatment groups. Participants andlocal study staff were not masked to the allocated treatment, but all others involved in the trial were masked to theoutcome data during the trial. The primary outcome was 28-day all-cause mortality, assessed in the intention-to-treatpopulation. The trial is registered with ISRCTN, 50189673, and ClinicalTrials.gov, NCT04381936.Findings Between April 7 and Nov 27, 2020, of 16 442 patients enrolled in the RECOVERY trial, 9433 (57%) wereeligible and 7763 were included in the assessment of azithromycin. The mean age of these study participants was65·3 years (SD 15·7) and approximately a third were women (2944 [38%] of 7763). 2582 patients were randomlyallocated to receive azithromycin and 5181 patients were randomly allocated to usual care alone. Overall,561 (22%) patients allocated to azithromycin and 1162 (22%) patients allocated to usual care died within 28 days(rate ratio 0·97, 95% CI 0·87–1·07; p=0·50). No significant difference was seen in duration of hospital stay (median10 days [IQR 5 to >28] vs 11 days [5 to >28]) or the proportion of patients discharged from hospital alive within 28 days(rate ratio 1·04, 95% CI 0·98–1·10; p=0·19). Among those not on invasive mechanical ventilation at baseline, nosignificant difference was seen in the proportion meeting the composite endpoint of invasive mechanical ventilationor death (risk ratio 0·95, 95% CI 0·87–1·03; p=0·24).Interpretation In patients admitted to hospital with COVID-19, azithromycin did not improve survival or otherprespecified clinical outcomes. Azithromycin use in patients admitted to hospital with COVID-19 should be restrictedto patients in whom there is a clear antimicrobial indication

Fluid status in patients with renal failure can determine fluid adequacy and subsequent fluid therapy. Dry weight is weight without excess fluid formed after the dialysis action or the lowest weight that is safe to reach the patient after dialysis. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect education about fluid restriction on dry weight pre intra and post hemodialysis ignition at Murni Teguh Memorial Hospital. Progressive and irreversible impairment of renal function in which the body's ability to fail to maintain metabolism and fluid and electrolyte balance, causing uremia (retention of urea and other nitrogenous waste in the blood) which can cause chronic kidney failure. The design of this research is quasi-experiment without control pre and post-test design. Sampling in this study were patients undergoing regular hemodialysis, totaling 58 people, using purposive sampling technique. The results of the study obtained the effect of education about fluid restriction on dry weight ignition in regular hemodialysis patients at Murni Teguh Memorial Hospital Medan obtained p-value 0.007<0.05. It is recommended that nurses increase the frequency of health education about the fluid needs of hemodialysis patients and problems that arise during hemodialysis, and improve their skills in determining the right dry weight

Bogowonto Lagoon has the largest mangrove ecosystem in southern coast of Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Several activities on mangrove restoration have been conducted to escalate this remnant mangrove forest area. Conversely, rapid increase of shrimp pond area become threat for mangrove ecosystem in Bogowonto lagoon since the early of 21st century. Hence, This study is aimed to investigate mangrove composition, distribution and abundance, progress of mangrove restoration program and shrimp pond extensification in 2002 to 2014. Conducted from April 2015 to May 2015, this research consists of several steps namely survey, vegetation analysis, literature study, sociological study using questionnaire, measurement of mangrove and shrimp pond area using Landsat 8 imageries and Arc GIS 10.1. We determined 15 sites along Bogowonto Lagoon using random sampling by quadratic plot (10 m × 10 m for tree, 5 m ×5 m for sapling) and total counts (for seedling). The result showed that there were seven species of mangrove and six species of associate mangrove. Rhizopora mucronata Lamb. was dominant in each growthform with clumped distribution. R. mucronata and Avicennia marina (Forssk.) Vierh. also dominate from backswamp to rivermouth. Satellite imageries revealed that there was a hope due to upward trends of mangrove area in last 12 yr (approximately 5 ha). However, the significant increase sof shrimp pond area (approximately 34 ha) surrounding mangrove area become current and future threat. Based on sociological study, most of people around Bogowonto Lagoon have high awareness, but less participated on mangrove restoration program. Besides, the river mouth covered by sand become another obstacle of it
