Meaning about the sports retreat in three active athletes of high performance, belonging to sports of weight category in Colombia

El primer abordaje acerca del retiro deportivo en atletas de altos logros en Colombia, se realizó a partir de una investigación inductiva de fuente discursiva. El propósito del estudio fue conocer el significado que tres atletas pertenecientes a deportes de categoría de peso en Colombia, le otorgan al retiro deportivo. Se recurrió a fuentes documentales y discursivas, recopilando información acerca de la historia de vida de los participantes, realizando entrevistas semiestructuradas e identificando datos sociodemográficos y de la carrera deportiva, así como el reconocimiento del contexto histórico y sociocultural en el que ha transcurrido la vida de los participantes. Los atletas fueron seleccionados de manera intencional al cumplir los criterios de inclusión del estudio, como ser medallistas en eventos del Ciclo Olímpico o campeonatos mundiales y contar con plan de entrenamiento. Los resultados provenientes de una triangulación múltiple dieron cuenta de 26 unidades de información, 3 a priori, 24 emergentes y 726 citas, provenientes de 30 documentos primarios. Los resultados muestran la importancia de una red de apoyo primaria, la planeación del retiro deportivo, la búsqueda de estabilidad económica, así como la identificación y puesta en marcha de estrategias para la obtención de diferentes fuentes de ingresos y mantenerse involucrados en el entorno deportivo desde el ejercicio de roles diferentes al de atletas. El significado del retiro podría estar asociado con el rendimiento actual, y conviene en próximas investigaciones reconocer las actitudes y planeación de este cuando el atleta este atravesando por una transición normativa o no normativa.Magíster en PsicologíaMaestríaThe first approach to sports retirement in high-achieving athletes in Colombia was based on an inductive research of discursive source. The purpose of the study was to know the meaning that three athletes belonging to weight category sports in Colombia give to sports retirement. Documentary and discursive sources were used, gathering information about the life history of the participants, conducting semi-structured interviews and identifying sociodemographic and sports career data, as well as recognizing the historical and sociocultural context in which the participants' lives have taken place. The athletes were selected intentionally by meeting the inclusion criteria of the study, such as being medalists in Olympic Cycle events or world championships and having a training plan. The results from multiple triangulation accounted for 26 units of information, 3 a priori, 24 emergent and 726 citations, from 30 primary documents. The results show the importance of a primary support network, the planning of sports retirement, the search for economic stability, as well as the identification and implementation of strategies to obtain different sources of income and to remain involved in the sports environment from the exercise of roles other than that of athletes. The meaning of retirement could be associated with current performance, and it would be convenient in future research to recognize the attitudes and planning of this when the athlete is going through a normative or non-normative transition
