ECO-EFFICIENCY AND ITS OPPORTUNITY IN A WORLD IN CRISIS
The paper argues for the necessity of maintaining the interest for the future of the planet in a context of crisis, when priorities tend to change. The main issue is eco-efficiency and its importance for the sustainable development of humanity. First, it is explained how ecology and economic efficiency can interfere and then the paper makes a literature review emphasizing the definition and the principles that the concept of eco-efficiency is based on. General view regarding the recent contribution of the World Bank in Europe and Central Asia
The World Bank is the institution that assumed the role of economic and social catalyser through its structures and affiliated organisms. The article is a review of the Bank’s contribution to the development of Europe and Central Asia, as reflected by statistics. The paper presents the multiple roles the World Bank carries out in the specified regions, and the figures showing the level of preocupation for these regions on the Bank’s agenda. The author uses charts to illustrate the recent evolution of the allocations, considering both the origin and the destination of the funds (IBRD, IDA, IFC and MIGA). Trends in international economics such as globalization and environment degradation put imprints upon economics both on theoretical and practical grounds. The article emphasizes two concepts that attract more and more the interest of economists and put in question the Economics as known until now. Analysis of the temporary evolution of the Romanian migration flows abroad, on migration routes
This article analyses the international migration of the Romanians based on their direction, within the extent of 1990-2008. The tendencies are being examined depending on the region of origin and of destination of the migrants and also depending on the residential environment of migrants. The study details the labour circular migration, divided on the fourth main courses. In order to protect its stakeholders and clients interests, a bank assumes a cautious credit risk profile, correlated to the objectives established in its business strategy. This article presents the credit risk profile and the analysis of the factors involved in the estimation of the probability and the impact of the credit risk upon the loan portfolio in a Romanian retail bank. Selecting strategic industries: international practice
Our paper pleads for the importance of strategic industries in the context of the renewed interest in industrial policy. Methods of identifying strategic industries are presented and accompanied by examples of industrial policy measures in countries as USA and Japan. The EU industrial profile is briefly presented so that a correlation between selection criteria of strategic industries and the EU strategic options could be drawn. These correlations represent a view at the EU level and differ from the ones that can be made at members’ country level, based on the common industrial strategy. Strategic sectors will remain a focus point on the industrial agenda of most countries but motivations and selection criteria are widely different
