    Selected bacterial washes, color, and mosquito eggs were comparatively examined as ovipositional attractants for Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus. Any evidence of additive activity was noted. All colored washes alone were preferred over selected bacterial washes. The combinations of color and bacteria in a single wash were better attractants for oviposition than colored washes alone. The bacterial content of the breeding water was a more important factor than egg presence in oviposition site selection

    Profile Monitor SEM's for the NuMI Beam at FNAL

    The Neutrinos at the Main Injector (NuMI) project will extract 120 GeV protons from the FNAL Main Injector in 8.56usec spills of 4E13 protons every 1.9 sec. We have designed secondary emission monitor (SEM) detectors to measure beam profile and halo along the proton beam transport line. The SEM?s are Ti foils 5um in thickness segmented in either 1?mm or 0.5?mm pitch strips, resulting in beam loss ~5E-6.     Developing Digital Literacy in Digital Natives: A Quantitative Study of Digital Literacy and Niswonger Online Students

    This non-experimental, quantitative study was completed to determine if Tennessee high school students who take an online, asynchronous course better their digital literacy through the environment of online learning. The study focused on the pretest and posttest scores of Niswonger Online students during the spring and summer semesters of 2021. It grouped the high school students by location, high school size, grade level, and courses taken to assess differences in digital literacy. Finally, it evaluated overall student growth in digital literacy scores after completion of an online high school course. Data from a pretest and posttest of Niswonger Online students were used to assess growth in digital literacy scores after completing an online course. There were six Research Questions that guided this study with six significant findings: 1. Students who were excited about taking the online course had significantly higher levels of digital literacy on the pretest. 2. Students from small high schools (fewer than 1200) scored significantly lower on the pretest than students from larger high schools. 3. Students from rural high schools scored significantly lower on the pretest than students from urban or suburban high schools. 4. There was a significant difference in the means (lower) of Sophomore pretest scores in comparison to other grade levels. 5. There was a significant difference between the average growth scores of students in World Languages and Social Studies and World Languages and Career and Technical courses. 6. On average, students who completed the Niswonger Online course scored significantly higher on the posttest than on the pretest

    A Qualitative Case Study: Understanding the Mathematical Identity of Elementary Preservice Teachers

    This qualitative case study examined the mathematical identities and perceptions of equity of eight female elementary preservice teachers in their junior year of a teacher preparation program at a Midwestern research university. Within the affective domain, beliefs related to competence, performance, and recognition, along with interest, were identified as the important factors shaping the mathematical identity of the participants. The prominence of these factors and the relationship between them was unique for each participant. Themes were identified through a cross participant analysis. Consistent between all of the factors and all of the participants was the influence of the teacher within the mathematics classroom. Furthermore, the participants’ salient identities and experiences that shaped these factors influenced their perceptions related to equity. The participants’ perceptions of equity related to gender norms and gender stereotypes, both inside and outside of the mathematics context, were a predominant theme. In addition, within the mathematics context, their perceptions of equity were shaped by their access to a high-quality curriculum, effective teaching and learning, and high expectations

    This article discusses a hybrid distributed environment including two levels of nodes: the first level which has high quality channels between the nodes, and the second one in which the nodes are directly involved in communication and the communication is performed through the first-level nodes. For the indicated distribution scheme, the questions of selection of the best path between the first-level nodes are solved based on such communication channel characteristics as delay in packet transmission, jitter in transmission, packet loss in transmission, and choosing a method for data transmission through the selected best path: protocols of transport and network layers have been compared, and the use of network layer has been preferred
