The joy of writing – teach, practice, inspire!

Writing is one of the most effective forms of recording thoughts and communicating across time and space. It is also the major focus of early years education when children strive to make the connection between sounds and their graphic representations. Yet, writing is not merely translating utterances into texts but an art of putting one’s thoughts and feeling on paper is such a way that they will be understood and experienced by the reader. This is obviously difficult, the more so if it is done in another language. Teaching writing requires many skills, most of which have little to do with the actual process itself. As teachers, we need to guide students through the intricacies of logical argumentation, text structure and formal aspects or writing inspiring them to come up with fresh ideas along the way. This text is a summary of a workshop on teaching writing to secondary school students which was aimed at providing new ideas on how to encourage students to write and, more importantly, how not to discourage them from the process. We strongly believe that writing is a creative process of self expression and is, as such, an immensely fulfilling activity. The only thing teachers have to do is help their students experience the joy of writing

Planning English Language Lessons: To Plan or Not to Plan: A Methodological Guide

Podręcznik 'PLANOWANIE LEKCJI JĘZYKA ANGIELSKIEGO' stanowi cenne wsparcie dla wykładowców, studentów i praktykujących nauczycieli. Skupia się na projektowaniu skutecznych lekcji, uwzględniających cele nauczania, potrzeby uczniów i różnorodność metod dydaktycznych. Zawiera praktyczne wskazówki dotyczące wyznaczania celów, doboru metod, przewidywania problemów lekcyjnych, projektowania zadań domowych i budowania konspektu. Publikacja składa się z dwóch części: kart pracy do praktycznego ćwiczenia planowania lekcji oraz szczegółowego poradnika z gotowymi rozwiązaniami i modelowymi odpowiedziami. Wskazówki i porady w podręczniku są oparte na solidnych podstawach teoretycznych oraz wynikają z praktycznych obserwacji rzeczywistych sytuacji lekcyjnych. Podręcznik jest efektem projektu "Modelowe kształcenie przyszłych nauczycieli przedmiotów humanistycznych w Uniwersytecie Łódzkim". Projekt ten został współfinansowany przez Unię Europejską ze środków Europejskiego Funduszu Społecznego w ramach Programu Operacyjnego Wiedza Edukacja Rozwój (Nr POWR.03.01.00-IP.08-00-PKN/18).The handbook 'PLANNING ENGLISH LANGUAGE LESSONS' provides valuable support for lecturers, students, and practicing teachers. It focuses on designing effective lessons, taking into account teaching goals, student needs, and the diversity of teaching methods. It includes practical tips on setting goals, choosing methods, anticipating lesson problems, designing homework assignments, and creating lesson plans. The publication consists of two parts: worksheets for practical lesson planning and a detailed guide with ready-made solutions and model answers. The tips and advice in the handbook are based on solid theoretical foundations and stem from practical observations of real teaching situations. The handbook is the result of the project "Model Education for Future Teachers of Humanities at the University of Łódź."
