Lymphangiography to treat postoperative lymphatic leakage: a technical review.

    Get PDF
In addition to imaging the lymphatics and detecting various types of lymphatic leakage, lymphangiography is a therapeutic option for patients with chylothorax, chylous ascites, and lymphatic fistula. Percutaneous thoracic duct embolization, transabdominal catheterization of the cisterna chyli or thoracic duct, and subsequent embolization of the thoracic duct is an alternative to surgical ligation of the thoracic duct. In this pictorial review, we present the detailed technique, clinical applications, and complications of lymphangiography and thoracic duct embolization

Enhanced light harvesting in bulk heterojunction photovoltaic devices with shape-controlled Ag nanomaterials: Ag nanoparticles versus Ag nanoplates

Enhanced power conversion efficiency (PCE(%)) with improved optical path length from two types of shape controlled silver (Ag) materials (Ag nanoplates versus Ag nanoparticles (NPs)) was studied in poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT)/[6,6]-phenyl C 71 butyric acid methyl-ester (PC 71BM) or poly[N-9′′-hepta-decanyl-2,7-carbazole-alt-5,5-(4′, 7′-di-2-thienyl-2′,1′,3′-benzothiadiazole)] (PCDTBT)/[6,6]-phenyl C 71 butyric acid methyl-ester (PC 71BM) bulk heterojunction (BHJ) devices. The Ag nanoplates and Ag NPs can be synthesized by simple solution polyol chemistry with well defined size and shape. A BHJ with a 0.5 wt% optimized blend ratio of Ag nanoplates shows improved cell performance and photo-current density than a BHJ with Ag NPs owing to the enhanced light absorption with the results of an excitation of localized surface plasmon and efficient light scattering by the Ag nanoplates embedded BHJ film. When the BHJ is combined with the Ag nanoplates at an optimized ratio of 0.5 wt%, the PCE (%) increases from 3.2% to 4.4% in P3HT/PC 71BM, and from 5.9% to 6.6% in PCDTBT/PC 71BM BHJ devices. © 2012 The Royal Society of Chemistry.1

Particulate counter electrode system for enhanced light harvesting in dye-sensitized solar cells

    Get PDF
A particulate counter electrode with photo scattering and redox catalytic properties is applied to dye sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) in order to improve photo conversion efficiency and simplify the assembly process. Our particulate counter electrode acts as both a photo reflecting layer and a catalyst for reduction of electrolyte. The reflective and catalytic properties of the electrode are investigated through optical and electrochemical analysis, respectively. A short circuit current density enhancement is observed in the DSSCs without the need to add an additional reflecting layer to the electrode. This leads to a simplified assembly process. Educational Effect of Practical Examination on Basic Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Self-Learning

Simplification of basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) enables easy production of videos for training, and non-face-to-face training can be provided via internet. The participants of this study were 89 university students   who took basic CPR class in 2020. We utilized teaching materials that is a 50-minute teaching material for standard adult CPR, comprised of a 25-minute power point slide show and a 25-minute video. All participants completed self-learning via Google Classroom (Alphabet Inc., Mountain View, USA). The participants took compression-only (C-O) practical examination consisting of 180 chest compressions after 5-minute C-O CPR using Resusci Anne SkillReporter (Laerdal Medical, Stavanger, Norway). The collected data were analyzed at an ⍺=.05 using the SPSS 20.0 for Windows (IBM Inc, New York, USA). Changes in willingness, knowledge, performance, and attitude toward CPR before and after the practical exam were analyzed using t-tests. Willingness to perform CPR increased from 1.78 to 2.02, showing a statistically significant change (p=.040). The knowledge score increased from 3.12 to 3.56 and performance score increased from 2.87 to 3.36. The attitude score increased from 3.39 to 3.69, and all these changes were statistically significant (p<.001; p<.001; p<.001). The practical exam on self-learning of basic CPR was effective on improving willingness, knowledge, performance, and attitudes of non-healthcare providers

Reconstructive challenge of dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans in the female breast

    Get PDF
Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans is an uncommon locally aggressive malignant neoplasm that most frequently appears in the trunk, followed by the extremities, head, and neck. But occurrence in the breast is extremely rare. We present a case of a 28-year-old woman, who had a history of trauma 5 years previously and excision 1 year before presentation at our clinic. We performed wide excision, together with microscopic and immunohistochemical analysis. No postoperative oncologic treatment was used and she remains disease-free 1 year after the surgery without any tumor recurrence. Here, we report a case of dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans in the female breast and present a detailed discussion of the diagnosis and treatment with reference to available literatures
