Identifying Ways of Effective Communication Focused on Public Campaign Design

    Get PDF
The purpose of this study was to identify the most effective way of communication in cause-related campaign design. The fundraising campaign selected for this study focused on children’s leukemia, “Draw a Message of Hope.” The five types of public campaign design were developed utilizing different elements and techniques of visual communication: (1) image plus text, (2) infographics, (3) motion graphics, (4) typography, and (5) description only. Each type of public campaign design was assessed in terms of (1) the extent to which audiences understand about the campaign and (2) the extent to which the materials encouraged the audience to participate in the campaign. A range of the audiences’ underlying thoughts about each type of public campaign design was also investigated. Data was collected from undergraduates (n = 60). Descriptive statistics, a paired T-test, and content analysis were used to analyze the data. The result showed that the ‘motion graphics’ type design was most understandable for the participants, followed by the ‘image plus text,’ ‘infographics,’ ‘typography,’ and ‘description only’ type design. Similarly, the ‘motion graphics’ means of design stimulated participants’ willingness to participate in the campaign to the greatest degree, followed by the ‘image plus text,’ ‘infographics,’ ‘typography,’ and ‘description only’ type design. The result of a paired T-test revealed that participants’ responses to each type of design were statistically and significantly different except the relationship between the ‘image plus text’ and ‘infographics’ type design. Thus, it was found that each type of component used in a public campaign design is significantly different in terms of its effectiveness. However, there was no significant difference on the effectiveness of the ‘image plus text’ and ‘infographics’ type design. For managerial implications, the result of this study provides graphic designers and organizations an important idea that they should consider utilizing motion graphics that offer sufficient information about the campaign and attract audiences’ interest. This result also gives an idea that description only-type design should be avoided because audiences would not pay attention to this “boring” type of campaign design

Holographic Monopole Catalysis of Baryon Decay

We study how monopole catalysis of baryon decay is realized in holographic QCD. Physics of monopole catalysis becomes much simpler in holographic description as it occurs due to the violation of the Bianchi identity for the 5D gauge symmetry when magnetic monopole is present. In holographic QCD we find a unified picture of the baryon number violation under magnetic monopole or electroweak sphaleron, giving a new mechanism of baryon number violation. We also embed our set-up in the string theory model by Sakai and Sugimoto.Comment: 18 pages, v2: references adde

The Effect of Transparency Policies on Shadow Economy: Measurement and Evidence from Korea

This paper provides a new and simple methodology to examine the relative size of the shadow economy to the official one using the quantity theory of money identity. We measure the shadow economy size in Korea annually. The Korean government has implemented various transparency policy measures to identify the tax source in commercial transactions. We find significant evidence that credit card encouragement and the cash payment receipt system have a negative effect on the shadow economy size

Allium tuberosum Rottler ex Spreng (ATRES) has been used as a traditional medicine for the treatment of abdominal pain, diarrhea, and asthma. In this study, we investigated the hair growth promoting activities of ATRES on telogenic C57BL6/N mice. Hair growth was significantly increased in the dorsal skin of ethanol extract of ATRES treated mouse group compared with the control mouse group. To enrich the hair promoting activity, an ethanol-insoluble fraction was further extracted in sequence with n-hexane, dichloromethane, ethyl acetate, n-butanol, and distilled water. Interestingly, we found that extraction with n-butanol is most efficient in producing the hair promoting activity. In addition, the soluble fraction of the n-butanol extract was further separated by silica gel chromatography and thin layer chromatography (TLC) resulting in isolating four single fractions which have hair growth regeneration potential. Furthermore, administration of ATRES extracts to dorsal skin area increased the number of hair follicles compared with control mouse group. Interestingly, administration of ATRES extract stimulated the expression of insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) but not of keratin growth factor (KGF) or vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). Taken together, these results suggest that ATRES possesses strong hair growth promoting potential which controls the expression of IGF-1

In order to classify web documents, we suggest a method using concept knowledge of category. In our study, the concept relations between keywords are extracted using hyperlink information and after the extracted keywords are classified into each category, these are used as an index. Then TFIDF for each category is extended to determine index weight value. The system is constructed for experimenting and estimating, which is consist of web robot, indexer, concept knowledge database for each category and the document classifier. Our system to be applied the extended TFIDF method shows an accuracy of 88% in automatic classifying of web documents
