    VERVE: Template-based ReflectiVE Rewriting for MotiVational IntErviewing

    Reflective listening is a fundamental skill that counselors must acquire to achieve proficiency in motivational interviewing (MI). It involves responding in a manner that acknowledges and explores the meaning of what the client has expressed in the conversation. In this work, we introduce the task of counseling response rewriting, which transforms non-reflective statements into reflective responses. We introduce VERVE, a template-based rewriting system with paraphrase-augmented training and adaptive template updating. VERVE first creates a template by identifying and filtering out tokens that are not relevant to reflections and constructs a reflective response using the template. Paraphrase-augmented training allows the model to learn less-strict fillings of masked spans, and adaptive template updating helps discover effective templates for rewriting without significantly removing the original content. Using both automatic and human evaluations, we compare our method against text rewriting baselines and show that our framework is effective in turning non-reflective statements into more reflective responses while achieving a good content preservation-reflection style trade-off

    El interés por estudiar ciencia en nuestro país debe ser abordado bajo nuevos modelos didácticos curriculares, que estén relacionados con el entorno y con el desarrollo económico social de la región, de tal forma que los estudiantes se puedan ver más motivados y encuentren el sentido de vida que tiene la ciencia. Se evaluaron los intereses y estilos cognitivos de aprendizaje en ciencia en alumnos de séptimo y octavo Básico y primero y segundo año de Educación Media de la Provincia de Llanquihue, Región de los Lagos, Chile. La muestra estuvo compuesta por 80 alumnos seleccionados de un colegio Particular, uno Particular Subvencionado, uno de Educación General Básica Municipalizado y un colegio Técnico Profesional Municipalizado. Se evaluaron los intereses vocacionales a través del test de Kuder y los estilos de aprendizaje con el test de Honey –Alonso. Todos los colegios están sobre el 60% de actitud positiva hacia el aprendizaje de la ciencia, pero la contextualización no se ve inserta en el tratamiento de los contenidos.The interest for studying science in our country should considerate a new didactic approach and a new curricular model, related to the environment and to the regional social economical development, in order to motivate students and help them to find the sense of life through science. The samples utilized in this research were: a private school, a semi- private school, a primary public school and a public vocational school. The results show that 60% of students have a positive attitude towards the science learning. However, contextualization in the science teaching is not noticed

    Crotalus polystictus is a Mexican endemic rattlesnake. It is considered under special protection status according to NOM-059- 2010-SEMARNAT. Crotalus polystictus was recorded for the first time, along with its ecological distribution within the natural protected area Sierra de Quila, Jalisco. This record is at least 31 km northwest from its closest known geographic distribution.Crotalus polystictus es Una serpiente de cascabel endémica de México.
