Ouachita communications staff earns three PRSA Arkansas Prism Awards
Ouachita Baptist University’s Office of Communications was honored with three Prism Awards at the 2017 ARcom Awards ceremony, held Thursday, Sept. 14, at the Arkansas Regional Innovation Hub in North Little Rock. The team also was recognized as one of three finalists for Best in Show.
The Prism Awards were presented by the Arkansas chapter of the Public Relations Society of America. PRSA Arkansas joined with the Arkansas chapter of International Association of Business Communicators and Ad Club Little Rock to host the inaugural ARcom Awards event, bringing together leading marketing and communications professionals from across the state. Roby Brock of Talk Business & Politics and Lisa Fischer of B98.5 served as emcees for the ceremony
Ouachita achieves top graduation rate among all colleges in Arkansas
Ouachita Baptist University has earned the honor of attaining the top university graduation rate in Arkansas, according to the latest data compiled by the National Center for Education Statistics. The report follows other recent recognitions, including Ouachita being ranked as the No. 1 private university in Arkansas by Niche.com

Ouachita receives part of $6.1 million grant establishing institute focused on virus research
Ouachita Baptist University is one of five partner institutions benefiting from a $6.1 million grant from the National Science Foundation to fund the study of viruses and viral ecology. The University of Arkansas leads the effort.
The grant will establish a Host-Virus Evolutionary Dynamics Institute (HVEDI) at UA with an HVEDI hub site at Ouachita. Nathan Reyna, associate professor of biology, serves as a co-principal investigator on the primary award and as the lead on the sub-award to Ouachita. Ruth Plymale, associate professor of biology and holder of the J.D. Patterson Chair of Biology at Ouachita, serves as campus lead investigator
Ouachita names 2019 Alumni Milestone Award recipients
Ouachita Baptist University recognized five outstanding alumni in the 10th class of Ouachita Alumni Milestone Award recipients at its Homecoming football game on Saturday, Oct. 5: Mauricio Vargas, Dr. Jim Spann, Brad Sullivan, Dr. Sarah Beth Harrington and Laura Cox. This year’s honorees represent the graduating classes of 1969, 1979, 1989, 1999 and 2009, respectively
Jaalen Watkins, former OBU football player, dies in car accident at age 21
Jaalen Watkins, a junior kinesiology major at Ouachita Baptist University, died from injuries sustained in a car accident on Thursday, July 3. He was a passenger in a car that was involved in a two-vehicle accident on I-630 in Little Rock, according to Arkansas State Police
Ouachita Office of Communications earns 11 state and national awards
Honoring diverse communications projects produced over the past year, Ouachita’s Office of Communications staff recently earned 11 state and national awards from three professional communications organizations.
This year’s honors included seven national awards from Baptist Communicators Association and one from Collegiate Advertising Awards as well as three statewide awards from the Arkansas chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators
