The study focused on men and women involved in artisanal fisheries in some selected areas of Ikorodu Local government in Lagos State. The random sampling technique was used to select 50 fishermen each at Ibeshe and Baiyeku sites. The results revealed that majority of the fishermen were male, christian, semi-illiterate, and married. Data were collected on capital sources, labour used, income, gear techniques and type of fish caught. Analysis showed that the highest sources of capital were from personal savings (50%). Majority of labour used were hired labour, 44% at Ibeshe and 50% at Baiyeku. Highest monthly income ranged between N10, 000 - N25, 000 at both sites. Planks were mostly used at both sites for fishing boats as well as means of transport (Ibeshe 68%, Baiyeku 72%). Common fishing gear was the gill net, The fishes caught were found to be of various tyupes. Ethalmalosa fimbriata constituted the highest fish species caught by weight and number at both sites (50%). However, the problems of capital source were most peculiar coupled with high cost of fishing materials and labour scarcit

Ninety juveniles of Tilapia niloticus were fed on three different composed diets, the locally compounded feeds with fish meal inclusion, (control), the second treatment were fed on imported feed (2) and treatment (3) with locally compounded feed with feather meal inclusion. At the end of eight weeks, it was found out that fish under treatment (1) had the highest feed intake than those of treatment 2 and 3. The weight gained in treatment 2 was higher than 1 and 3. The survival rate were high in this experiment but the means were not significantly different (P>0.05). (The higher survival rates were attributable to the range of the physiochemical measurement). The Wight gained was attributed to the palatability of the floating nature of the feed. The treatment 3 had the lowest weight gained which might be due to the low palatability as a result of feather meal inclusion in the feed. The feed conversion ratio in treatment 2 was highest, subsequently followed by treatments 2 and 3 respectively

The study determined the survival and the response of Oreochromis niloticus to different feeding compositions. 90 Oreochromis niloticus juveniles were fed different diets in triplicated treatments inside glass tanks. Treatment I comprised locally compounded diet; Treatment II, imported pelletized feed; and Treatment III - processed feathermeal based diet. Results showed that there was no significant differences (P>0.05) in the weight gain, feed intake, survival and feed conversion ratio. However, Treatment I had the highest feed intake, while treatment n had the highest weight gain and feed conversion ratio
