    Get PDF
This study examines the effects of attitude, subjective norm, perceived behavioural control, and taqwa on compliance intention to pay zakat on salary in East Malaysia. A deductive approach is employed to examine young public servants' compliance intention to contribute to zakat payment on their salary. The model is tested using survey data from 202 respondents in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, East Malaysia. The results obtained indicate that attitude, subjective norm, and perceived behavioural control are significantly related to compliance intention. Besides these factors, taqwa is also significant. The post hoc analysis indicates that attitude can play a role as a mediating variable for the relationship between taqwa and compliance intention. This study improves the generalisation of the theory of planned behaviour (TPB) to include zakat payment, where Islamic altruism is brought into play. Our findings are of the essence to provide valuable insights for zakat authority to manage zakat payers effectively by considering new millenials as new zakat payers' base and patronage factors as captured in this study

    Get PDF
Digital literacy can be simply defined as the skills required to achieve digital competence. Depending on the nature of studies, digital literacy has been proliferated into many facets of skills, such as information literacy and computer literacy. We see that the studies of digital literacy are evolving in line with the predominated use of information technologies in learning, work, employability, and participation in society. Malaysia is also striving to ensure that digital literacy skills are bound to their citizens as a way of life, and thus, it is worthwhile to understand and investigate how well the research in digital literacy is progressing. This study has adapted the European Digital Competence Framework for Citizens 2.1 (DigComp) as our framework. The purpose of this study is to review digital literacy studies in Malaysia over the last decade using a systematic review in finding out the methodological approaches that are frequently used. A total of 37 studies were finally selected based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria, and they were categorized according to the year published, topics, research designs and data collection methods. The following findings were noted: (1) topics on information and data literacy, communication and collaboration, and digital content creation were frequently studied in Malaysia, (2) a quantitative research design predominated the studies by the Malaysian researchers, followed by qualitative and mixed methods (3) survey/question is the preferred data collection method for the quantitative research, and while interview is for the qualitative research. We concluded that quantitative research studies were limited by the set answers on a survey and can be too dependent to the measurement scales. Therefore, we suggest the use of qualitative or mixed-methods designs to enrich the studies by exploring the attitudes, behaviours, and digital literacy experiences of respondents in-depth such as by using narrative inquiry or ethnography

This study examines the mediating roles of corporate social responsibility on the links between green marketing awareness and consumer purchase intentions. Data was analyzed using the partial least squares (PLS) approach for the analysis of structural equation models with SmartPLS computer program version 2.0. PLS results revealed that corporate social responsibility partially mediated the link between green marketing awareness and purchase intentions of the product. Consumers develop positive green marketing awareness based on the growing environmental knowledge. They were aware of the green marketing program of the retail store when they noticed that the store allocated specified space to sell eco-friendly products. Furthermore, the companies make their green marketing activities known to the publics by distributing eco-friendly fliers which helps to increase sales revenue, raise consumer awareness, and develop greater intention to purchase the products. The outcomes of the mediating effects of this study add a new momentum to the growing literature and preceding discoveries on consumer green marketing awareness, which is inadequately researched in the Malaysian setting

    Get PDF
ABSTRACT Society in the modern world nowadays see debt as something normal. Hence, household seems difficult to escape themselves from debt. Credit Counselling and Debt Management Agency (AKPK) recorded from 50,361 cases that enrolled in debt management program, 10.6 percent households could not pay their credit card debt while the remaining had repayment problem with housing loans, car loans and credit cards outstanding (Nie, 2010). The development of credit card facility as a medium of payment to buy goods and services also encourage household to spend beyond their means. Given the increase of cost of living like subsidy restructuring like petrol, increase in tariff electricity and also the implementation of Goods and Services Tax (GST) among the factors which induce the use of credit card to accommodate their cost of living. At the same time, credit card issuer such as financial and nonfinancial also contributed to the increase of household debt by giving easy terms and condition with low interest rate. Therefore the objective of this research is discuss on related literature reviews and follows by the development of conceptual framework that determine urban household credit card debt by integrating psychological factors, bank's policy factors and socio-demographic factors. Next, this paper also will discuss methodology instrument that will be used for this study

Rambutan (Nephelium lappaceum L.) fruit is abundantly present in Malaysia. It is a seasonal fruit that present twice a year. It has short shelf life at ambient temperature has contributed to fruit wastage. Thus, the initiative of producing canned rambutan is an innovation that makes rambutan fruit available throughout the year. The canned rambutan industry leaves large amount of rambutan seed. This study focused on utililization of rambutan seed as valuable product which is Rambutan Seed Fat (RSF). The RSF was extracted using Soxhlet Extraction method for 8 hours. The objective of this study was to determine the physicochemical properties of RSF: melting point (°C), Refractive Index (RI), Total Carotene Content (TCC), water activity (Aw), acid value (AV), peroxide value (PV) and saponification value (SV). The results showed that: 38.00±1.00 – 48.83±1.61°C melting point, 1.46±0.00 RI, 1.18±0.06 mg/kg TCC, 0.4721±0.0176 Aw, 1.2162±0.1520 mg KOH/g AV, 9.6000±0.4000 g/g PV and 146.8040±18.0182 mg KOH/g SV, respectively. According to the results, RSF showed high industrial potential as cocoa butter replacement in chocolates and cosmetics production as the physicochemical properties of RSF is quite similar to cocoa butter

    Get PDF
This study aimed to reveal the level of blended learning receptiveness among Malaysian academicians strictly during the Covid-19 pandemic, and applied the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB) in examining the factors determining blended learning receptiveness among Malaysian academicians. Malaysian higher learning institutions practised blended learning following learning method efficiencies and the significance of the Malaysia Education Blueprint 2025. Five independent variables (attitudes, subjective norms, and perceived behavioural control, organisational assistance, and literacy) were investigated in the study context. Specifically, 250 questionnaires were distributed to respondents during the working hours of chosen private universities. Smart Partial least squares (PLS) analysis tool is employed to examine the model fits and hypothesis testing. Findings show that all variables have a positive and significant relationship with the receptiveness of blended learning among academicians. Thus, this study shows that blended learning receptiveness is high, especially during pandemic and lockdown situations. This study proved essential for Malaysian academicians, specifically regarding blended learning utilization and implementation. As blended learning was predictably time-consuming and deterred the implementation process, this study strived to promote blended learning among Malaysian educators. The Covid-19 pandemic resulted in the complete utilization of blended learning using digital platforms. Most academicians could not conduct face-to-face classes due to the restrictions on physical contact. Hence, this study proved essential for educators in wholly implementing blended learning amid the outbreak

External debts and economic growth in Malaysia

    Get PDF
Previous researches on the relationship between external debt and economic growth in Malaysia have produced inconsistent results. Despite the intense debate on the link between external debt and economic growth, there is no research that takes the new definition of external debt into consideration. To address this issue, this study seeks to examine the effects of external debt on economic growth by allowing the external debt to be taken into consideration especially in terms of the non-residents holding of local-currency denominated debt securities. Using time series econometric approaches and quarterly data of Malaysia from 1997 Q1 to 2016 Q4, this study finds that there is a significant positive relationship between external debt and economic growth. In addition, the results of Granger causality test reveal the existence of short-run bilateral causality relationships between external debt and economic growth
