Napier grass (Pennisetum purpureum) has potential to be processed as a livestock fodder due to high growth rate and good nutritive value. The objective of this study is to determine and compare the chemical composition of Taiwan Napier grass at different growth stages. The different harvesting intervals of growth stages were 30 to 35 days and 40 to 45 days. The plant samples were collected at Agropolitan Farm Besut-Setiu, Terengganu and were analyzed using proximate analysis and dry ashing method. The chemical compositions were analyzed for ash, crude protein (CP), crude fiber (CF), ether extract (EE), Magnesium (Mg) and Potassium (K). The mineral compositions of Mg and K were measured using Induced Couple Plasma Optical Emission Spectrometry (ICP-OES). Results showed that the chemical compositions of Taiwan Napier grass at different growth stages had a significant effect on the percentage content of all components measured. The percentage of crude fiber increased as the age increased which is 28.88% and 30.04% in 30-35 days and 40-45 days, respectively. The percentage of chemical compositions of crude protein, ash, ether extract, Mg and K had decreased as the growth stage of Taiwan Napier grass increased. The percentage of crude protein, ash, ether extract, Mg and K were higher at 30-35 days, which are 14.42%, 10.57%, 3.00%, 0.064 ppm and 0.026 ppm, respectively. Therefore, it can be concluded that the growth stage at 30-35 days of Taiwan Napier grass is the best age for harvesting which is providing high nutritive value of the animal feed

The increasing trend of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) prevalence in Indonesia is a public health concern as it increases mortality, morbidity and burden of disease that has great implication on the health economic. In addition, CKD patients who are more likely to undergo hemodialysis is commonly associated with psychological problems such as depression, anxiety and stress and these have added more to the disease burden. Immediate measures such as progressive muscle relaxation (PMR) to reduce the psychological symptoms is of great importance before the symptoms progress into psychiatric disorders. The study was aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of PMR in reducing symptoms of depression, anxiety and stress among patients undergoing hemodialysis. It was a quasi-experimental, pretest-posttest control study that recruited 60 eligible respondents who underwent hemodialysis and was randomly allocated into intervention and waitlist control groups. Respondents in the intervention group performed PMR twice a day for two weeks. Mean scores of depression, anxiety and stress of respondents were examined before and after intervention using Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale–21 questionnaire (DASS-21). Results showed that mean scores of depression, anxiety and stress differed significantly before and after intervention between groups and within the intervention group (p<0.005). PMR was effective to reduce the psychological symptoms among patients underwent hemodialysis. This highlight the importance to screen psychological symptoms among those patients and PMR should be taught to them as one of the stress-reducing measures

Bisphenol A, an endocrine disrupting compound that affects human homeostasis. Studies on BPA are focusing on the impact of BPA in reproductive function and brain development. However, the effect of BPA on gut especially gastric cells is not well explored. Gut is directly in contact with ingested BPA; therefore, we aimed to determine the effect of BPA exposure on gastric cells proliferation at safe recommended concentration. Human gastric cancer cells (HGC-27) were treated with BPA at different concentration (low: 10-9M, 10-7M; high10-5M, 10-4M) and time point (24 hr, 48 hr, 72 hr). Cell viability assays were determined using MTS assay. Cells were further stained with Alexa Fluor-635 (F-actin) and Fluorescein (Hif-1α) protein for immunocytofluorescence. Data were analysed using ANOVA (p<0.05, n≥3). Cells treated with 10-9M BPA showed significance increase of cell viability after 48 hr (Mean ±SEM; 146%±0.03, p=0.01) and 72 hr (113%±0.03, p=0.00) compared to 24 hr treatment (77%±0.11, p=0.002). Similarly, cell treated with 10-7M BPA showed a significance increase after 48 hr (141%±0.03, p=0.03) and 72 hr (190%±0.03, p=0.02) compared to 24 hr cells treated with 10-7M (88%±0.05, p=0.01) and untreated (100%±0.07). Lower concentration of BPA increases the condensation of F-actin in all HGC-27 cells. Meanwhile, translocation of Hif-1α protein were observed in all BPA-exposed cells. Findings of this study revealed that BPA induced proliferation and condensation of F-actin structure of gastric cancer cells at low concentration

    No full text
The use of atypical antipsychotic agents in early onset schizophrenia is rising despite its limited data on efficacy, safety and tolerability. Early onset schizophrenia warrants effective pharmacological treatment that is safe and well tolerated by children and adolescent population. Existing atypical agents are not completely free of side effects. Aripiprazole has unique properties that differ from other atypical antipsychotics and fill up the missing gaps, as it is associated with minimal metabolic complications and extrapyramidal side effects that are more commonly seen in other atypical agents. It offers a better option for this population and may possibly be considered as first line treatment in future. This case report demonstrates the efficacy and safety of Aripiprazole in children and adolescent population

Word of Mouth (WOM) is one of the most frequently used term in the modern technology driven society. WOM is a means of direct interaction among consumers, influencing consumption-related decisions. With the massive expansion of internet, social-media and mobile phones, traditional WOM has given way to electronic Word of Mouth (eWOM). The significance of eWOM lies in its availability to a wider range of audience, though scattered geographically, connected virtually. Studies show that eWOM can influence travel-related decisions of potential tourists. Also known as user-generated content (UGC), eWOM available through social media and other similar platforms expands the ability of travellers to gather information, choose destinations and tour related services, understand the experiences of previous travellers and make better choices. Literature evidences show that the impact of eWOM on consumer decision making in tourism is greater than that of traditional face-to-face WOM communication. The objective of this study is to investigate the influence of eWOM message characteristics (MC) on its perceived usefulness (PU) among the consumers, in the context of international tourism. The data was gathered applying a validated survey questionnaire from 833 respondents in the city of Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.&nbsp

    No full text
Carbon dioxide fixation technique was developed as an alternative dechlorination method of chlorobenzenes. Electrolysis of chlorobenzene was carried out in a one-compartment cell fitted with an aluminium anode and a platinum cathode. Electrolysis in N, N-dimethylformamide (DMF) solution containing 0.1 M of tetrapropylammonium bromide (TPAB) at 0 °C, 100 ml/min of CO2 flow rate and 120 mA/cm2 of current density was found to be the optimum conditions of this electrocarboxylation, which gave 72% yield of benzoic acid from chlorobenzene. These conditions were then applied to 1,2-dichlorobenzene and 1,3-dichlorobenzene in order to convert them to their corresponding benzoic acids
