    METAFORA DALAM LAGU EBIET G. ADE “CAMELLIA I-IV”

    Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis metafora yang terkandung pada lirik lagu Ebiet G. Ade di dalam lagu seri Camelia dan mengetahui jenis metafor yang terkandung pada lirik lagu Ebiet G. Ade di dalam lagu seri Camelia. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif karena data yang digunakan berupa kata dan frase bukan berupa angka-angka. Sedangkan metode yang digunakan adalah metode simak dan catat. Setelah mengklasifikasikan data berupa lirik yang mengandung metafora dalam lagu seri Camelia. Peneliti menemukan 44 metafora yang dirinci sebagai berikut: 12 Metafora dalam lagu Camelia I, 6 Metafora dalam lagu Camelia II, 8 Metafora dalam lagu Camelia III, dan 18 Metafora dalam lagu Camelia IV. Sedangkan dari 44 metafora yang telah dirinci tersebut, terdapat 26 metafora hidup (Living Metaphor) di antaranya: senja hitam, batu hitam, hati membatu, membebaskan nasib, belenggu sepi, Camelia, kembang terakhir, seribu bayang dll, dan 18 metafora mati (Dead Metaphor) di antaranya: ujung pematang, tidur panjang, titik embun, puisi dan pelitaku, gugusan hari, padang ilalang dll

    AN ANNOTATED TRANSLATION OF “MY POINT... AND I DO HAVE ONE” BY ELLEN DEGENERES

    This is an annotated translation research. The problems of this research are (1) What are the problems encountered by the translator/ researcher during the process of translation; (2) What are the plausible solutions to the problems encountered by the translator/ researcher during the process of translation. The purposes of this research are (1) To attain factual information concerning the problems encountered by the translator/ researcher during the process of translating the source text into the target text, namely from English into Indonesian; (2) To present plausible solutions to the problem encountered by the translator/ researcher during the process of translation. The methods of this research are the introspective and retrospective method. The result of the analysis revealed that not all items of the principles of translation and not all of those strategies of translation were used for analysis. From the six items in the principle of translation, there are five principles of translation namely Meaning (5 data), Source Language Influence (2 data), Style and Clarity (5 data) Idiom (5 data) and register (3 data).  Of  each  strategies, namely syntactic strategies there are cohesion change (1 data), unit shift (2 data), loan (3 data), calque (2 data), and phrase structure change (1 data), of semantic strategies namely paraphrase (4 data), and of pragmatic strategies namely cultural filtering (2 data), Synonomy (1 data), and interpersonal change (4 data). The finding in this research revealed that an idiom in the target text is not used to translate an idiom in the source text. The idioms in this study are translated as non idiom in this research. Other finding is that there is no active target text which derived from passive source text what exist in the other way round. Another findings shows that the word I is translated into aku. I refers to the author in line with the conversation with herself in the context and when the author in line with the conversation with the reader in the context, the word I is translated into saya.The implications of this research are 1) The researcher/ translator should master the English language as well as the Indonesian language; 2) The researcher/ translator should master the theories of translation including the principle of translation and translation strategies as well as the theories of both languages; 3) The researcher/ translator should be competence in using application program, especially Microsoft Office; 4) Translator has no friends except dictionaries.  Key Words: Annotated, Translation, introspective, retrospectiv

    THE TRANSLATION STRATEGIES OF CULTURAL WORDS IN AHMAD TOHARI'S DANCER

    The aim ofthis research is to find out the translation strategies by examining twonovels, which are "Ronggeng Dukuh Paruk" by Ahmad Tohari and the Englishtranslation version "Dancer" by Rene T.A. Lysloff. The writer uses a descriptivequalitative as the research method because the result ofthe analysis are concernedwith providing descriptions of phenomena that occur naturally, without theintervention ofan experiment. After classifying the data based on its strategies,this research shows that there are eight strategies which are used by the translatorto translate the cultural words. From eighty seven data (sentences that containingthe cultural words) which are identified, there are 15 cultural words (17,24%) byusing general words, 17 cultural words (19,54%) by using cultural substitution,18 cultural words (20,69%) by loan word or loan wordplus explanation, 27 culturalwords (31,03%) by descriptive equivalent, 4 cultural words (4,60%) byfunctionalequivalent, 2 cultural words (2,30%) by literal translation, 2 cultural words(2,30%) by naturalization, and 2 cultural words (2,30%) by omission

    VIRTUES AND CHARACTER STRENGTHS OF KAZ AND NINA'S CHARACTERS IN THE NOVEL SIX OF CROWS

    This research was aimed to find out and compare the virtues and character strengths of Kaz and Nina's characters in the novel Six of Crows. The researchers used Peterson and Seligman's theory of virtue and character strengths. This research used the qualitative method. In the analysis of the 285 data found in this research, the researchers found 161 data indicating Kaz's virtues and character strengths and 124 data indicating Nina's virtue and character strengths. Both characters possess all six virtues: wisdom and knowledge, courage, humanity, justice, temperance, and transcendence. The researchers found that Kaz and Nina possess twenty-one-character strengths. Kaz possesses all of the character strengths but love, citizenship, and gratitude, while Nina possesses all but fairness, leadership, and forgiveness and mercy. Based on the research findings, the researchers concluded that both Kaz and Nina possess all the virtues mentioned by Peterson and Seligman. Additionally, both characters possess the same number of character strengths which is twenty-one-character strengths, even though their character strengths are relatively different

    Tujuan dari penelitian ini yaitu untuk mencari tipe-tipe dari campur kode (code mixing) yang digunakan dalam ujaran Dodit dalam stand up comedy dan untuk menemukan alasan penggunaan campur kode (code mixing) dalam ujaran yang dilakukan oleh Dodit dalam stand up comedy. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif karena data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini berupa kata, frasa, dan klausa bukan angka-angka. Sedangkan metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini menggunakan metode simak dan catat. Setelah mengelompokan data ke dalam bentuk kata, frasa, dan klausa yang mengandung campur kode dalam ujaran yang dilakukan oleh Dodit dalam stand up comedy, peneliti menemukan 38 data untuk campur kode yang terbagi menjadi 23 kata (words insertion), 4 frasa (phrases insertion), 1 klausa (clause insertion), 8 hibrid (hybrid insertion), 2 pengulangan kata (repetition insertion), dan 1 idiom (idiom insertion). Sedangkan alasan yang sering muncul dalam penggunaan campur kode yang dilakukan oleh Dodit adalah ketidaksengajaan, penyesuaian diri, tujuan tertentu dan terakhir adalah penyampaian pemikiran

    The purposes of this research are to describe the types of hyperbole found in Melanie Martinez's K-12 and to find out the most dominant type of hyperbole found in Melanie Martinez's K-12. Claudia Claridge's Hyperbole theory is used to analyze the type of hyperbole meanwhile descriptive qualitative method is used for the method of the reseach. After classifying and analyzing the data, it is found45 data of hyperbolic expressions which are categorized into seven categories namely single-word hyperbole, phrasal hyperbole, clausal hyperbole, numerical hyperbole, superlative hyperbole, comparison, and repetition. At the end of analyzing, clausal hyperbole is found as the most dominant type of hyperboleused

    The Acquisition Of Foreign-Language Drama and Its Relevance in Learning Appreciation of Literature Through Staging Drama (Case of Non Native Speakers)

    Play performance is one of those teaching skills which challenge the students to think creatively to appreciate the literature. Here, the students are strived for thinking strong and evolving their creative thoughts in reviews or reviewing the foreign language’s play that has been seen in the dramatically play. Review or evaluation is a kind of students’ creativity through literature’s criticism that is related to the play’s manuscript or letters that has been performed. Type of this review or evaluation shows the students’ creative process and shows the students’ level of appreciation to the letters. Based on hypothesis, it is built an assumption that less interested students in appreciating the letters is related to the blind side of students’ appreciation level, including play. Although the students’ appreciation level to the play is difficult enough to be measured, but this early research hopefully can give satisfactory information about the right teaching methods or media to be used in leaning the letters’ appreciation. This research used plan of Action Research. As Class Action Research context, the word “action” was understood as activity that was arranged systematically to create a raising level of teaching process and educational practices in certain class condition. In practicing Action Research, there were 4 basics that have to be concerned; they were (a) Action plan, (b) Action realization, (c) Observation, and (d) Reflection. These four aspects were connected each other and continuous. The result of students’ learning in rewriting review of the letters by benefiting the dramatic phenomenon to be the main substance for measuring the students’ appreciation level and perception to the performed play. According to the result of the research, it could be concluded that the model of play performance could be one of students’ learning models in appreciating the letters

    The problem of this reseach is what are the types of archetypes found in Joe Goldberg as the main character in the novel titled YOU meanwhile the purpose of this research is to find out the types of archetypes which are found in the main character namely Joe Goldberg used the theory of collective unconscious by Carl Jung. This research used qualitative method in analyzing the data because it consists of words, pharases, and clauses not in numbers. The result of this research showed after the researchers classifying forty three data which are taken from novel, it is found three of eight archetypes namely thirty three data of Persona, nine data of Shadow, and one datumof Hero that appear in the main character of Joe Goldberg
