We report the simulation models for enhancing the metacognitive skills. Mechanical Engineering students of Babylon Institute in Iraq are chosen for case study. The design of model and Impact Test Simulations (ITS) for Metallurgy subject is addressed. The simulation software developed using Microsoft Studio 2010 includes tutorials to explain all necessary theoretical background and formulas. Step-by-step computerized procedures and numerical examples are rendered in a simple user-friendly, visual and interactive environment to enhance metacognitive skills and students' learning. Before starting the design process, objectives and the salient features of simulation are clearly identified. Subsequently, real laboratory experiments are conducted for collecting data and coding them in computer language. Despite the existence of numerous module embedded graphical simulation, the developed software package is expected to provide valuable tool for both students and instructors. Furthermore, the same package in the form of a bi-product can also be used as a "research tool" together with the application for engineering education

Knowledge about safety practices in workshop among student in industrial training institute

    Get PDF
The aim of this paper is to look into the safety practices in the workshop among students at the Industrial Training Institute(ITI) in term of knowledge aspect. This study was conducted using questionnaire for quantitative and interview for qualitative approaches. The study was conducted by distributing questionnaires to respondents consisting of 176 students from two selected ITI. An interview session also been conducted with four instructor form four selected workshop. The data from questionnaire were analysed using IBM Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) Software version 21.0. Analysis is translated into mean, frequency and percentage. Findings show that knowledge about safety practices in workshop among student in ITI is very high. Hopefully with the information obtained from the study findings, appropriate measures and approaches can be identified to ensure that safety practices in the workshops are constantly enhanced

A Delphi study analysis of ICT skills in secondary vocational schools

The development of a high-quality education system is one of Malaysia's main priorities. Focus has centred on the development of experienced, competent, progressive human capital bearing high moral and ethical standards. The Education Development Master Plan (EDMP) 2006-2010 submitted by the Ministry of Education implements 22 vocational subjects (VS) in secondary schools. This is to develop vocational skills in preparing students to meet the need for skilled and semi-skilled workers after graduating high school to support economic development. This study identifies the elements of sustainability for the implementation of VS in secondary schools in Malaysia based on the strategy outlined by the International Centre for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (UNEVQC) based in Bonn, Germany. The methodology used for this study is the Delphi study. Twelve panels of experts in the field of technical and vocational education in Malaysia were involved in the study consisting of four rounds of Delphi. In the first round, interviews were conducted on a panel of experts on the basis of interview protocols. The results of these interviews showed that ICT skills are one of the elements necessary for the preservation of VS teaching in secondary schools. Subsequently a questionnaire was developed with the aid of an expert panel in the second to fourth rounds of the Delphi study. The questionnaires developed will be used by VS teachers in order to gain a perception of ICT skills in the conservation of VS teaching in secondary schools

In the realm of education, learning and instructional activities play a crucial role in cultivating lasting and meaningful comprehension among science students. This research aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the i-Genius module in enhancing students’ performance in science. The i-Genius module’s development adhered to the ADDIE model, and two specific research questions were formulated: i) is there a statistically significant difference in mean scores between the experimental and control groups? and ii) to what extent can i-Genius contribute to students’ conceptual evolution compared to traditional methods? To address these questions, a sequential mixed-method approach involving interviews, pre-tests, and post-tests was implemented in two distinct schools in the Seremban District. The experimental group comprised 35 participants, and the control group also included 35 students with similar characteristics. Student performance, assessed through pre-test and post-test mean scores, revealed that students exposed to i-Genius achieved significantly higher scores than those exposed to traditional methods in the post-test (t(68)=8.37, p<0.05). This study’s implications lie in its practical application within the school context, offering an alternative instructional tool for teaching science and presenting an instructional model to guide teachers in formulating strategies that encourage problem-posing within the science curriculum

Nurturing National Dual Training System towards government-link companies’ (GLCs) standard

    Get PDF
It has been thirteen years since National Dual Training System (NDTS) was introduced and implemented as a training system with the potential to produce human capital that is labeled as knowledge worker (k-workers). Trainees will undergo 70% hands-on training in work environment and 30% theories at training centers. Not only talents needed by industries are produced, trainees are also getting early exposure to the real work. This paper discusses the strength of the dual system implemented in industries. In order to fulfill the mission, strategy, and thrusts of the Training Master Plan for Occupational Skills Development, three aspects of enhancement were listed, (1) full utilization of the Human Resource Development Fund (HRDF), (2) enforcement of specific laws strictly and prudently for the smooth implementation, and (3) making full use of the research information, obtain for the purpose of long-terms solutions in NDTS implementation
