Explaining intention to use an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) System : An extension of the UTAUT model

Purpose - This paper proposes an extended model based on the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) developed by Venkatesh et al. (2003) to help better explain the intention to use an Enterprise Resource Planning System (ERP). Design/methodology/approach - The findings from literature review reveal that various technology acceptance models have been introduced in the past two decades. However, there are new research models which lack empirical study. With the above proposed research model, further study could be carried out to gauge if this model can better explain the end-users' intention to use ERF system. Findings - The review shows that although there have been researches conducted using the UTAUT model they have not decomposed the facilitating conditions as we have suggested which will be useful for intervention purposes. Limitations/Implications - Since we are suggesting a conceptual model based on literature review, it is suggested that further study could be carried out to test if this model can better explain the end-users' intention to use ERP system. Practical implications - The review has shown that shared beliefs, project communication and training can be used to offer intervention measures to help in the ERP adoption and usage. Originality/value - What we have proposed is to drop the voluntariness variable from the model as a moderating factor justifying the exclusion based on the fact that an ERP system implementation is mandatory and there is little room for the employees to oppose once the system is implemented. We also suggest further decomposing the facilitating condition into 3 components, namely, shared beliefs, project communication and training can help in the design of intervention measures

    Get PDF
AbstractThe Economic Transformation Programme (ETP) is a strategic plan by the Malaysian Government to transform the tourism sector into a high-yield industry by 2020. It is vital to understand the perception of international tourists on the Government's initiatives in transforming the industry. Hence, this study aims to explore the international tourists’ perception on transformation of the Malaysian tourism industry based on Malaysia's ETP. A practical insight of the characteristics of the Malaysian tourism industry development comparing to the neighbouring countries are provided. Survey data were gathered from a sample of 333 respondents. The findings revealed that affordable luxury, family fun, events, entertainment, spa, and sports, and also business tourism have positive impact on transforming the Malaysian tourism industry into high-yield. Thus, it is concluded that the direction of ETP is in line with the perception of the international tourists. ETP can drive the tourism sector to become a high-yield industry

Past researches have observed a shift in the dimensions of organizational citizenship behavior. Building on organizational citizenship behavior literature, the present study in the paper involved looking at validating the dimensionality of the organizational citizenship behavior (OCB) measure developed by Organ (1988) who posited a five dimension instrument. Data was gathered through a survey using a structured questionnaire to employees working in 10 large manufacturing companies in Malaysia. A total of 113 questionnaires were returned over a period of 10-week. A series of tests such as factor analysis, correlation, and reliability analysis was conducted to confirm that the instrument is valid (content, construct, convergent, discriminant and nomological) as well as reliable. Implications regarding the value of conducting validity and reliability test for practitioners and researchers are discussed
