Comment on "Perfect imaging with positive refraction in three dimensions"
Leonhard and Philbin [Phys. Rev. A 81, 011804(R) (2010)] have recently
constructed a mathematical proof that the Maxwell's fish-eye lens provides
perfect imaging of electromagnetic waves without negative refraction. In this
comment, we argue that the unlimited resolution is an artifact of having
introduced an unphysical drain at the position of the geometrical image. The
correct solution gives focusing consistent with the standard diffraction limit

The methods adopted in the United Kingdom to ensure the structural integrity of military aeroplanes and helicopters from the fatigue point of view are described. The procedure adopted from the writing of the specification to the monitoring of fatigue life in service are presented along with the requirements to be met and the way in which they are satisfied. Some of the outstanding problems that remain to be solved are indicated
Dodecahedral topology fails to explain quadrupole-octupole alignment
The CMB quadrupole and octupole, as well as being weaker than expected, align
suspiciously well with each other. Non-trivial spatial topology can explain the
weakness. Might it also explain the alignment? The answer, at least in the case

Velocity lag of solid particles in oscillating gases and in gases passing through normal shock waves
The velocity lag of micrometer size spherical particles is theoretically determined for gas particle mixtures passing through a stationary normal shock wave and also for particles embedded in an oscillating gas flow. The particle sizes and densities chosen are those considered important for laser Doppler velocimeter applications. The governing equations for each flow system are formulated. The deviation from Stokes flow caused by inertial, compressibility, and rarefaction effects is accounted for in both flow systems by use of an empirical drag coefficient. Graphical results are presented which characterize particle tracking as a function of system parameters
