The cave of Los Murciélagos at Zuheros (Córdoba): habitat and sanctuary during the Early Neolithic. Hearths, "Papaver somniferum" and symbolism

Presentamos en este trabajo una serie de restos recuperados en un hogar, excavado en la campaña de 1991, encendido en uno de los niveles iniciales del Neolítico Antiguo de la Cueva de los Murciélagos de Zuheros. Las características del hogar, la peculiaridad de los ecofactos que ha proporcionado y la presencia de manifestaciones artísticas en el mismo sector de la cavidad donde se efectuó la excavación, junto con algunas cerámicas simbólicas, nos permiten plantear que los primeros productores establecidos en esta cavidad llevaron a cabo unas actividades que relacionamos con la práctica de algún tipo de ritual.We present,in this study, a series of artefects recovered from the remains a fire that was found in one of the levels of the Early Neolithic period during an excavation carried out in 1991 in the Cueva de los Murciélagos, Zuheros. The characteristics of the fire, together with the ecofacts, artistic manifestations and symbolic ceramics found near to the fire suggests that the first inhabitants of this cave carried out activities that could be related to some type of ritual

El lloc i el terme de Llíber al segle XVII

En el present treball els autors analitzen la situació de Llíber al segle XVII des d'una triple perspectiva: històrica(les conseqüències de l'expulsió dels moriscos), geogràfico-econòmica (el lloc i el terme amb les seues partides i el règim de la propietat rural vigent aleshores) i demogràfica (els corrents migratoris des de l'illa de Mallorca vers Lliíber i des d'aquesta localitat cap a altres poblacions de la Marina Alta)

Caminar i menjar: una mirada als recorreguts a peu al voltant d'una activitat quotidiana

El present treball parteix del paral·lelisme entre el menjar i caminar, que són dues activitats quotidianes, intrínsecament humanes i elementals i que a la vegada reforcen la connexió de les persones amb la realitat tangible i sensorial que les envolta. L’estudi se centra en la ciutat de Barcelona, amb el seguiment de tres personatges i els seus hàbits alimentaris, a través de criteris com distàncies, quantitats, preus i circumstàncies. L’observació dels seus actes de caminar en relació amb la compra, preparació i consum d’aliments, centrant-se en l’escenari urbà i/o domèstic que envolta aquestes accions, porta a reflexions sobre diferents aspectes i característiques de la societat i la ciutat contemporànies. Així mateix, es debaten medita sobre qüestions relacionades amb les metròpolis occidentals actuals i la seva xarxa d’abastiment alimentari i infraestructura de serveis essencials, com ara la ciutat de proximitat o el paper dels mercats en l’actualitat. L’estudi, finalment, desenvolupa un seguit de cartografies que narren les interaccions entre les persones i la ciutat amb el menjar i el caminar.This study is based on the parallelism between two daily activities, walking and eating, which are both intrinsically human and elemental and reinforce people’s connection with the tangible and sensory reality that surrounds them. The research focuses on the city of Barcelona, tracking the habits of three individuals in relation to food, based on criteria such as distances, quantities, prices, and circumstances. By observing how these individuals walk in relation to food shopping and preparation and consumption, in the urban and/or domestic setting, the study reflects on various aspects and characteristics of contemporary society and the city. Additionally, the study considers various concepts and debates related to current Western metropolises and their food supply network and essential services infrastructure, such as the proximity city or the role of markets today. Finally, the study develops a series of maps that narrate the interactions between people and the city with food and walking

Bottom-up effects of streambed drying on consumer performance through changes in resource quality

Stream flow intermittency and subsequent streambed drying, which already occurs in most biomes worldwide, is expected to increase in many regions due to both climate change and increased water demand. We studied the effects of streambed drying on leaves and epilithic biofilm and their effects on potential consumers. In the field, resources were conditioned according to the following treatments: (i) continuously submerged (PERM), (ii) submerged, exposed to the dry streambed and then submerged again (INT), or (iii) conditioned in the dry streambed and only allowed instream conditioning for 1 week (DRY, only for leaves). The results showed that drying affects resource quality, and the effects on biofilm were more severe than those on leaves. Both DRY leaves and INT biofilm showed lower microbial colonization and nitrogen accrual, whereas INT leaves had similar characteristics to PERM leaves. Drying resulted in decreased shredder and herbivore consumption rates and detritivore growth. Our results suggest that bottom-up effects of drying through changes in resource quality can constrain detritivore growth in temporary streams, potentially affecting stream secondary production and invertebrate-mediated organic matter cycling under a drier climate scenario

Holographic Floquet states in low dimensions (II)

We continue the study in [1] of a strongly coupled (2+1)-dimensional gauge theory subject to an external rotating electric field. The system is modelled holographically as a D3/D5 probe intersection. We add temperature to the D3 background and analyze the phase diagram. Also here, the conductive phase extends down to vanishing external electric field at discrete values of the frequencies where vector meson Floquet condensates form. For all temperatures, at given intercalated frequencies, we find new dual states that we name Floquet suppression points, where the vacuum polarization vanishes even in the presence of an electric field. From the data we infer that these states exist both in the conductive and insulating phases. In the massless limit we find a linear and instantaneous conductivity law, recovering known general results in 2+1 dimensions. We also examine the photovoltaic AC and DC current as the response to an oscillating probe electric field and see that rising the temperature suppresses the photovoltaic Hall current. All the results obtained carry over qualitatively unaltered to the case of D3/D7.Comment: 22 pages + appendice
