Dataset: Study of total economic valuation of the main services provided by mangroves in the Gulf of Chiriquí, Panama

This field inventory data was collected by CATIE (Centro Agronómico Tropical de Investigación y Enseñanza) with funding provided by MarViva Foundation. In order to determine the economic value of the ecosystem service of climate change mitigation of the mangroves in the Gulf of Chiriquí, Panama, it was necessary to carry out field inventories that provide first-hand information about the amount of carbon stored in these forests. Fieldwork was carried out in the winter of 2014 across 12 mangrove sites with varying land use and anthropogenic impacts. Each site contained plots, where vegetation was surveyed and soils were sampled to provide estimates of total ecosystem carbon stock.</p
