The Labor Market in the Seventeenth-Century Italian Art Sector

    Get PDF
We analyze the labor market for painters in Baroque Rome using unique panel data on primary sales of still lifes, portraits, genre paintings, landscapes and figurative paintings. In line with the traditional artistic hierarchy of genres, average price differentials between them were high. We identify supply and demand factors related to prices of paintings. The panel dimension of the dataset and its matched painter-patron nature allows us to evaluate the extent to which price heterogeneity is related to unobservable characteristics of painters and patrons. We find that most of the inter-genre price differential is explained by the variation in average artist heterogeneity across genres. This suggests that the market allocated artists between artistic genres to the point of equalizing the marginal return of each genre. We also explain residual price differences in terms of efficiency wage, signalling and incentive mechanisms to induce effort in the production of artistic quality.Art market, Occupational choice, Wage equalization, Signalling

In line with the traditional hierarchy of genres, average price differentials between them were high. We identify supply and demand factors related to prices of paintings. The panel dimension of the dataset and its matched painter-patron nature allow us to evaluate the extent to which price heterogeneity is related to unmeasured differences among painters or patrons. Most of the inter-genre price differential is explained by the variation in average individual heterogeneity across genres: this suggests that the market was rather competitive and allocated artists between artistic genres to the point of equalizing the marginal return of each genre. We also explain residual price differences in terms of efficiency wage, signalling and incentive mechanisms to induce effort in the production of artistic quality.Art market, Occupational choice, Wage equalization, Signalling

Availability of open data related to COVID-19 epidemic in Italy

    Get PDF
Since the beginning of the COVID-19 outbreak in Italy, health authorities have released epidemiologic data about this disease. These data were the most important sources of information which were periodically updated and analyzed by researchers to predict the spread of the epidemic. However, comprehensive and timely data on the evolution of COVID-19 have not always been made available to researchers and physicians

The Real Self and the Ideal Self

    Get PDF
Every human psychic aspect, even the development of the Self, cannot be considered separately from the financial and cultural context in which it is inserted: ad a Matteo of fact the realization of individual freedom is correlated to broader economic and social changes, which influence the individual on self-realization. In the chapter, various theories about this topic and about the ideal self are explored, and it concludes by considering that self expression helps people to satisfy their real emotions and their real self, it also highlights the fact that self-realization and self-expression are among the highest needs on the human needs scale, and they affect human health

Understanding of the Nutri-Score front-of-pack label by Italian Medical Professionals and its effect on food choices: a web-based study on knowledge, attitudes and practices

    Get PDF
A growing number of European Countries have adopted front-of-pack nutrition labels (FPNL) in order to assist costumers' alimentary choices, and particularly Nutri-Score. While its acceptance in Italy has been slowed by ongoing debates, we assessed corresponding knowledge, attitudes and practices of a sample of Italian Medical Professionals (MP)

Supporting hydrocarbon exploration in new venture areas with optical remote sensing

    Get PDF
In past time, exploration geologists mainly used Earth Observation systems for basin-wide analysis of gravimetry, magnetomerty, structural faults, lithology and land-cover. After two decades of research, nowadays multispectral and hyperspectral remote sensing represent a cutting-edge technology in the oil and gas industry. The application fields of optical remote sensing not only range from the monitoring of the oilfields to the evaluation of pollution, but also to hydrocarbon exploration. With reference to exploration activities, the observation of the territory from above into several different wavelengths is able to supply inestimable geophysical information related to the microseepage effect, different and complementary to tradition geophysical methods. It is almost accepted that many of the oil and gas fields leak light hydrocarbon gases along nearly vertical pathways and, thus, their detection with multi/hyperspectral imaging can support the detection of active petroleum systems. Indeed, several independent oil companies are using satellite and airborne observations for reducing exploration risks in new venture areas and for optimizing their seismic surveys. This study shows some examples of microseepage-related geochemical and geobotanical alterations detected in several different environments, from sandy desert to vegetated savannah, both using airborne hyperspectral data and multispectral satellite time series. All the examples analyze real onshore concession blocks in Africa and Asia and results clearly show a correlation between the spectral signals recorded form remote with in situ measures, well logs, the knowledge of the subsurface and the position of known oilfields

Methods: We describe the clinical features and outcome of a cohort of 450 patients with simultaneous diagnosis of HM and COVID-19 registered in the EPICOVIDEHA registry between March 2020 to February 2022. Results: Acute leukaemia and lymphoma were the most frequent HM (35.8% and 35.1%, respectively). Overall, 343 (76.2%) patients received treatment for HM, which was delayed for longer than one month since diagnosis in 57 (16.6%). An overall response rate was observed in 140 (40.8%) patients after the first line of treatment. After a median follow-up of 35 days, overall mortality was 177/450 (39.3%); 30-day mortality was significantly higher in patients not receiving HM treatment (42.1%) than in those receiving treatment (27.4%, p = 0.004), either before and/or after COVID-19, or compared to patients receiving HM treatment at least after COVID-19 (15.2%, p 500/mcl at COVID-19 onset was protective. Conclusions: HM treatment should be delivered as soon as possible for patients with simultaneous diagnosis of COVID-19 and HM requiring immediate therapy.EPICOVIDEHA has received funds from Optics COMMITTM (COVID-19 Unmet Medical Needs and Associated Research Extension) COVID-19 RFP program by GILEAD Science, United States (Project 2020-8223)

The Impact of Covid-19 Pandemic on Community Psychiatric Services in Northern Italy

    Get PDF
The Covid-19 pandemic, started brutally in February 2020 in Northern Italy (first European area hit by virus), has induced the most drastic and prolonged containment measures by a European government. The most affected areas of the Italian territory were Lombardy and Veneto. A severe and global lock-down was ordered for more than two months, with the closure of essential medical services among others. All health resources have been diverted to address the health crisis caused by the pandemic. During the lock-down, however, the only community medicine services that remained open were mental health services: psychiatry, the area of addictions, child neuropsychiatry. The community facilities have always provided services favoring, on the one hand, the maintenance of care and rehabilitation paths for patients in care, and on the other, allowing anyone who needs to have access to treatment. The operators were also involved at the forefront in the management of covid + patients and in the support paths for the management of the operators’ stress. In this chapter, we want to describe the working conditions and the organizational responses of our services, referring to a large catchment area of the region most affected by covid-19

Antigen Detection Tests for SARS-CoV-2: a systematic review and meta-analysis on real world data

    Get PDF
Background and aim Rapid antigen detection (RAD) tests on nasopharyngeal specimens have been recently made available for SARS-CoV-2 infections, and early studies suggested their potential utilization as rapid screening and diagnostic testing. The present systematic review and meta-analysis was aimed to assess available evidence and to explore the reliability of antigenic tests in the management of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic

Hierarchical classification of complex landscape with VHR pan-sharpened satellite data and OBIA techniques

Land-cover/land-use thematic maps are a major need in urban and country planning. This paper demonstrates the capabilities of Object Based Image Analysis in multi-scale thematic classification of a complex sub-urban landscape with simultaneous presence of agricultural, residential and industrial areas using pan-sharpened very high resolution satellite imagery. The classification process was carried out step by step through the creation of different hierarchical segmentation levels and exploiting spectral, geometric and relational features. The framework returned a detailed land-cover/land-use map with a Cohen’s kappa coefficient of 0.84 and an overall accuracy of 85%
