N=6 conformal supergravity in three dimensions

N=6 conformal supergravity in three dimensions is studied in an off-shell component field formulation. We obtain local symmetry transformation laws and a Lagrangian of the conformal supergravity multiplet. We then couple it to the ABJM theory and obtain local transformation laws and a Lagrangian of the coupled theory.Comment: 20 page

Local Symmetries in the AdS_7/CFT_6 Correspondence

    Get PDF
It is shown that local symmetry transformations of the maximal AdS supergravity in seven-dimensional anti de Sitter space induce those of the N=(2,0) conformal supergravity on the six-dimensional boundary at infinity. Boundary values of the AdS supergravity fields form a supermultiplet of the conformal supergravity.Comment: 13 pages, LaTe

Gradient flows without blow-up for Lefschetz thimbles

We propose new gradient flows that define Lefschetz thimbles and do not blow up in a finite flow time. We study analytic properties of these gradient flows, and confirm them by numerical tests in simple examples.Comment: 31 pages, 11 figures, (v2) conclusion part is expande

R-Process Nucleosynthesis in MHD Jet Explosions of Core-Collapse Supernovae

We investigate rr-process nucleosynthesis during the magnetohydrodynamical (MHD) explosion of supernova in a massive star of 13 MM_{\odot}. Contrary to the case of the spherical explosion, jet-like explosion due to the combined effects of the rotation and magnetic field lowers the electron fraction significantly inside the layers above the iron core. We find that the ejected material of low electron fraction responsible for the rr-process comes out from the silicon rich layer of the presupernova model. This leads to the production up to the third peak in the solar rr-process elements. We examine whether the fission affects the rr-process paths by using the full nuclear reaction network with both the spontaneous and β\beta-delayed fission included. Moreover, we pay particular attention how the mass formula affects the rr-process peaks with use of two mass formulae. It is found that both formulae can reproduce the global abundance pattern up to the third peak though detailed distributions are rather different. We point out that there are variations in the rr-process nucleosynthesis if the MHD effects play an important role in the supernova explosion.Comment: 19 pages with 7 figures, submitted to Ap

Finite N Matrix Models of Noncommutative Gauge Theory

We describe a unitary matrix model which is constructed from discrete analogs of the usual projective modules over the noncommutative torus and use it to construct a lattice version of noncommutative gauge theory. The model is a discretization of the noncommutative gauge theories that arise from toroidal compactification of Matrix theory and it includes a recent proposal for a non-perturbative definition of noncommutative Yang-Mills theory in terms of twisted reduced models. The model is interpreted as a manifestly star-gauge invariant lattice formulation of noncommutative gauge theory, which reduces to ordinary Wilson lattice gauge theory for particular choices of parameters. It possesses a continuum limit which maintains both finite spacetime volume and finite noncommutativity scale. We show how the matrix model may be used for studying the properties of noncommutative gauge theory.Comment: 17 pp, Latex2e; Typos corrected, references adde

A maximum spreading speed for magnetopause reconnection

    Get PDF
Past observations and numerical modeling find magnetic reconnection to initiate at a localized region and then spread along a current sheet. The rate of spreading has been proposed to be controlled by a number of mechanisms based on the properties within the boundary. At the Earth's magnetopause the spreading speed is also limited by the speed at which a shocked solar wind front can move along the magnetopause boundary. The speed at which a purely north to south rotational discontinuity propagates through the magnetosheath and contacts the magnetopause is measured here using the Block‐Adaptive‐Tree Solar Wind Roe‐Type Upwind Scheme global magnetohydrodynamics model. The propagation speed along the magnetopause is fastest near the nose of the magnetopause and decreases with distance from the subsolar point. The average propagation speed along the dayside magnetopause is 847 km/s. This is significantly larger than observed rates of reconnection spreading at the magnetopause of 30–40 km/s indicating that, for the observed conditions, the speed of front propagation along the magnetopause does not limit or control the spreading rate of reconnection.Published versio

The Factorization Method for Simulating Systems With a Complex Action

We propose a method for Monte Carlo simulations of systems with a complex action. The method has the advantages of being in principle applicable to any such system and provides a solution to the overlap problem. We apply it in random matrix theory of finite density QCD where we compare with analytic results. In this model we find non--commutativity of the limits μ0\mu\to 0 and NN\to\infty which could be of relevance in QCD at finite density.Comment: Talk by K.N.A. at Confinement 2003, Tokyo, July 2003, 5 pages, 4 figures, ws-procs9x6.cl

Higher derivative corrections to black hole thermodynamics from supersymmetric matrix quantum mechanics

We perform a direct test of the gauge-gravity duality associated with the system of N D0-branes in type IIA superstring theory at finite temperature. Based on the fact that higher derivative corrections to the type IIA supergravity action start at the order of \alpha'^3, we derive the internal energy in expansion around infinite 't Hooft coupling up to the subleading term with one unknown coefficient. The power of the subleading term is shown to be nicely reproduced by the Monte Carlo data obtained nonperturbatively on the gauge theory side at finite but large effective (dimensionless) 't Hooft coupling constant. This suggests, in particular, that the open strings attached to the D0-branes provide the microscopic origin of the black hole thermodynamics of the dual geometry including \alpha' corrections. The coefficient of the subleading term extracted from the fit to the Monte Carlo data provides a prediction for the gravity side, which can be checked once the complete form of the O(\alpha'^3) corrections to the supergravity action is obtained.Comment: REVTeX4, 4 pages, 2 figures.
