Regularized pointwise map recovery from functional correspondence
The concept of using functional maps for representing dense correspondences between deformable shapes has proven to be extremely effective in many applications. However, despite the impact of this framework, the problem of recovering the point-to-point correspondence from a given functional map has received surprisingly little interest. In this paper, we analyse the aforementioned problem and propose a novel method for reconstructing pointwise correspondences from a given functional map. The proposed algorithm phrases the matching problem as a regularized alignment problem of the spectral embeddings of the two shapes. Opposed to established methods, our approach does not require the input shapes to be nearly-isometric, and easily extends to recovering the point-to-point correspondence in part-to-whole shape matching problems. Our numerical experiments demonstrate that the proposed approach leads to a significant improvement in accuracy in several challenging cases

The nonperturbative closed string tachyon vacuum to high level
We compute the action of closed bosonic string field theory at quartic order
with fields up to level ten. After level four, the value of the potential at
the minimum starts oscillating around a nonzero negative value, in contrast
with the proposition made in [5]. We try a different truncation scheme in which
the value of the potential converges faster with the level. By extrapolating
these values, we are able to give a rather precise value for the depth of the
potential.Comment: 24 pages. v2: typos corrected, clarified extrapolation in scheme B,
and added extrapolated tachyon and dilaton vev's at the end of Section

Language games and computer-aided composition
Wittgenstein\u27s theory of the language game looks at the specific context in which language finds meaning. This theory significantly influences composition theory and practice within the problematic context of the computer-aided classroom, a much more complex and fast-paced environment than the traditional composition classroom. Students face a challenging, semester-long language game of creating a context from learning and meaning by actively participating in the rule-making processes of language. As a result, they are responsible for creating and maintaining their own language games by negotiating their ways through chatrooms (synchronous discussions), email (asynchronous discussions), virus complications, and other technological problems. Therefore, this thesis examines how students must define yet another context for their writing and how this new context forces them to engage with each other as fellow writers
Strengthening Adolescents with Anxiety Through Drama Therapy
In recent years social anxiety has become increasingly common in adolescents, requiring nurturance and assistance. With so many forms of therapy available, however, it may be hard for someone to find a practice that suits them. Drama therapy serves as a good option. It is a fairly new practice that helps adolescents to become more expressive and engaging in their everyday lives, decreases their social anxieties, and builds a new sense of confidence. By gaining a deeper knowledge of theatre and its history, adolescents are also provided with a new outlet through which they can explore and continue to grow as human beings. Whether it be through different modalities such as group exercises, individual sessions, improvisational theatre, or a structured three step method of putting on a performance, drama therapy has much to offer adolescents suffering with anxiety

Strengthening Adolescents with Anxiety Through Drama Therapy
Jeremy Moeller
In recent years the issues associated with social anxiety have become increasingly common in adolescents. With these issues becoming more common it is important that they continue to be nurtured and helped. With so many forms of therapy though it may be hard for someone to find a practice that suits them. That is where drama therapy comes in. Drama therapy is a fairly new practice that helps these adolescents to become more expressive and engaging in their everyday lives, decrease their social anxieties, and build a new sense of confidence with their anxiety. By gaining a deeper knowledge of theatre and its history, these adolescents are also provided with a new outlet in which they can explore and continue to grow as human beings. With all of this in mind it becomes obvious as to why drama therapy has become so effective in helping these children to grow. Whether it be through group exercises, individual sessions, improvisational theatre, or a structured three step method of putting on a performance, drama therapy has something for everyone no matter what their setbacks in life may be
Do shareholders of acquiring firms gain from acquisitions?
We examine a sample of 12,023 acquisitions by public firms from 1980 to 2001. Shareholders of these firms lost a total of 8 billion when acquisitions were announced and shareholders of large firms lost $226 billion. We examine the cross-sectional variation in the announcement returns of acquisitions. Small firm shareholders earn systematically more when acquisitions are announced. This size effect is typically more important than how an acquisition is financed and than the organizational form of the assets acquired. The only acquisitions that have positive aggregate gains are acquisitions of subsidiaries.
