The Tsallis Distribution at Large Transverse Momenta

    Get PDF
Fits to the transverse momentum distributions of charged particles produced in p - p collisions at LHC energies based on the Tsallis distribution have been shown to work over 14 orders of magnitude. Two versions of the Tsallis distribution are compared and discussed, the thermodynamically consistent version leads to a temperature of T = 74 +/- 13 MeV at the highest beam energy, a result which is in agreement with previous analyses done with lower transverse momentum data.Comment: 5 pages, 2 figure

Tofu industry is a domestic industry largely do not have sewage treatment units, wherewastewater directly discharge into sewers or water bodies without treatment. The aims ofstudy observation the ability of constructed wetland using T. latifolia to removal, COD andTSS. The research variations were plant and detention time. Constructed wetland reactorusing plastics with dimension 50, 36, 31cm, in length x width x height and soil mediathickness of 10 cm, 5 cm sand and 5 cm gravel. T. latifolia plant density 0, 0,5, 0,75 and 1g/cm2, and variations detention time 1,2, and 3 day. Optimal results were obtained in plantsTypha latifolia 1 g/cm2 and detention time day to 3 there are COD 200 mg/L and efficiency of92,70%; TSS 153 mg/L with efficiency 87,90%;. Anova analysis results α = 5% show thevalue COD 98,8%; and TSS 92,8%. Wich explains that the plant density factor and detentiontime affect the the concentration reduction COD and TSS

Silicon Nanowire Immunosensor for Detection of 8-Hydroxy-2^|^apos;-Deoxyguanosine Oxidative Stress Cancer Biomarker

A silicon nanowire-based immunosensor has been developed to determine the presence of 8-hydroxy-2'-deoxyguanosine (8-OHdG). This research demonstrates a process for the detection of 8-OHdG, which is an oxidative stress biomarker, in which elevated concentrations in urine and saliva can act as an indicator of the presence of acute leukaemia, colorectal, breast, lung and prostate cancers. The detection of elevated levels of this biomarker is critical in determining the presence of various mutagenesis and can be used to diagnose early stage cancer before initial symptoms appear. The surface functionalization process has involved the attachment of diazonium salt to the silicon nanowire surface with further stage which involves the reduction of PhNO2 to PhNH2. The antibody targeted against 8-OHdG was subsequently bound to the amine NH2 modified grafted layer of a 370 nm width nanowire. The immunosensor was evaluated through the use of current/voltage electrical probe monitoring in which a 2 μg/ml concentration of 8-OHdG was detected. A further comparison with phosphate buffered saline solution added to the sensor was observed to be negligible. The antibody-functionalised SiNW sensor has been used to detect binding of the 8-OHdG biomarker to the SiNW surface within sixty-seconds of exposure, making this a rapid cancer biomarker test

Characterization of erbium doped photonic crystal fiber

Photonic crystal fibers (PCFs) are a new emerging research area, and have been undergoing rapid development in recent years due to their unique and excellent optical properties and features. Studies on the characteristics of various types of PCFs have been reported. However, characterization on erbium-doped PCF has not previously been investigated. Therefore, in this paper, we have modeled an erbium-doped core PCF which has 7 rings of hexagonal air holes. The PCF structure, with a perfectly matched layer (PML), is modeled and simulated using Finite Element Method (FEM) via COMSOL software. The PML is optimized by varying the radius and thickness of the layer. Modal properties of the PCF have been investigated in terms of its effective index of the supported fundamental mode, confinement loss and thickness of the perfectly matched layer. This erbium-doped PCF has a confinement loss of 1.0E-6 at 1500 nm and a maximum effective refractive index of 1.476. This paper gathers useful data, which could be used for studying the characteristics of a PCF

Induction of polyploid gametes is one of useful plant polyploidization methods. Some of its benefits are to obtain triploid and tetraploid progenies at the same time by cross and self pollination. Previous research showed that some morphological characters which could be the indications of polyploidy plantlets before the analysis of chromosome number. Colchicine treatment on flower bud of diploid Phalaenopsis amabilis was conducted to determine the effect of colchicine on flower bud development, plantlets morphology and growth, and potential of polyploidy induction based on plantlets morphology. Colchicine concentrations in the experiment were 0, 50, 500, 1,000, and 2,000 mg L-1, with three days duration of treatments with aluminium foil wraps on flower buds. The results showed that high colchicine concentrations (2,000 mg L-1) inhibited flowers blooming of treated flower buds. Based on morphological characters, plantlets were classified into normal and putative polyploid plantlets. Putative polyploid plantlets from colchicine with the concentration of 50, 500, and 1,000 mg L-1 were 71.2, 86.4, and 100.0% respectively
