Interesting records of bryophytes from the East African Islands Réunion and Mauritius are reported. Anomodon tristis (Ces.) Sull. & Lesq. is reported with certainty for Africa. First records for the East African Islands of Calliergonella cuspidata (Hedw.) Loeske, Cephaloziella transvaalensis S. Arnell, Dicranella cardotii R. Br. ter., Hymenostylium recurvirostrum (Hedw.) Dixon, Pogonatum urnigerum (Hedw.) P. Beauv. and Scorpiurium circinatum (Brid.) M. Fleisch. & Loeske are listed. Riccia cavernosa Hoffm. em. Raddi and Syrrhopodon parasiticus (Brid.) Besch. are reported as new for the Mascarenes and Brachymenium exile (Dozy & Molk.) Bosch. & Sande Lac. and Fossombronia foveolata Lindb. as new for Mauritius

Nineteen species of bryophytes are reported for the first time for Réunion. Especially remarkable are the first African record of Anastrophyllum leucocephalum (Tayl.) Steph. and the first records for the East African Islands of Cephaloziella cf. vaginans Steph., Fossombronia foveolata Lindb., Riccia huebeneriana Lindenb., Barbula unguiculata Hedw., Bryum pseudotriquetrum (Hedw.) Schwägr., Chenia leptophylla (Müll.Hal.) R.H.Zander, Dicranella subsubulata (Hampe ex Müll.Hal.) A.Jaeger, Ditrichum punctulatum Mitt., Physcomitrium spathulatum (Hornsch.) Müll.Hal. var. spathulatum and Trichostomum crispulum Bruch var. crispulum. Brachymenium gemmiferum A.J.Shaw & W.R.Buck is regarded as synonymous with Brachymenium exile (Dozy & Molk.) Bosch & Sande Lac

Bryophytes of Bioko (Equatorial Guinea) : results of an excursion in 2002

    Get PDF
97 species of bryophytes are reported as new for the island of Bioko, 89 of them are new for whole Equatorial Guinea, a remarkable amount is new for tropical West Africa and Micromitrium tenerum is new for sub-Saharan Africa. The bryoflora of the highest mountain of Bioko, the Pico Basile, shoes strongly phytogeographic affinities with Mt Cameroon on the African mainland. Rhabdoweisia lineata P.W. Richards & Argent, which was made a synonym of R. fugax (Hedw.) Bruch, Schimp. & W. Gümbel by Frahm & al. (2000) is regarded as a clear distinct species

Cephaloziella biokoensis sp. nov. (Marchantiopsida, Cephaloziellaceae), from the island of Bioko (Equatorial Guinea)

A new species, Cephaloziella biokoensis Vá a & F.Müller, is described and illustrated. The type locality is at the highest point of the island of Bioko (Equatorial Guinea) at an altitude of ca. 2900 m NN. The new species belongs to subgenus Prionolobus (Spruce) Müll.Frib. and is closely related to C. turneri (Hook.) Müll.Frib. The main differences between these two species are shown in a table

The bryophyte flora of nature reserves in central Chile : 1., the moss flora of Los Ruiles Nature Reserve near Talca

    Get PDF
The moss flora of the Los Ruiles Nature Reserve, Maule region (VII), central Chile was investigated. Los Ruiles is a small forest reserve dominated by Nothofagus trees and surrounded by plantations of Pinus radiata. The moss species list contains 72 taxa, among which are 36 species newly reported for the Maule region. Several species reach their northernmost known limit in the reserve, including Achrophyllum magellanicum var. magellanicum, Ancistrodes genuflexa, Cryphaea consimilis, Dendrocryphaea lechleri, Lembophyllum orbiculatum, Leptostomum menziesii, Symblepharis krausei, and Zygodon papillatus. To ensure the survival of these rare or local bryophytes, an increase of the proportion of Nothofagus trees in the forests surrounding the reserve is desirable

A Game Theoretic Analysis of Parallel Trade and the Pricing of Pharmaceutical Products

    Get PDF
We develop a simple double marginalization model with complete information, in which an original manufacturer of a pharmaceutical product faces potential competition from parallel imports by a foreign exclusive distributor. The model suggests that parallel imports will never occur in the sub-game perfect Nash equilibrium, as it will always be beneficial for the manufacturer to monopolize the home country by undercutting the price of the reimported pharmaceutical product. However, the question as to whether it is optimal for the manufacturer to charge the monopoly price in the home country depends on the level of trade costs and the level of heterogeneity of the two countries, in terms of market size and price elasticity of demand. For the purpose of further research, this paper suggests the introduction of asymmetric information with regard to local demand functions, in order to explain why parallel trade may actually occur in equilibrium.

An Analysis of the Welfare Effects of Parallel Trade Freedom

In a double marginalization model which is played between a domestic monopolistic manufacturer of pharmaceuticals and a foreign exclusive distributor, I examine the impact of parallel trade freedom on the manufacturer's profit. I also analyze its impact on global welfare for low, intermediate, and high trade costs and different levels of heterogeneity of the two countries where the manufacturer and the distributor are located. The model suggests that parallel trade - provided that it is a credible threat - reduces the profit of the manufacturer and thus reduces his incentives to invest in R&D. If, however, trade costs are high, parallel trade is a non-credible threat as it is not a worthwhile business activity for the foreign distributor and thus does not have any impact on the profit of the manufacturer. The model shows that parallel trade has positive welfare properties if the two countries are sufficiently heterogeneous in terms of market size and if trade costs are intermediate and low, respectively. If, however, the countries are virtually homogenous in terms of market size, parallel trade may be detrimental to global welfare for specific levels of trade costs.parallel trade, pharmaceuticals, R&D incentives, welfare effects, economic,

Some Remarks on {g\mathfrak g}-invariant Fedosov Star Products and Quantum Momentum Mappings

In these notes we consider the usual Fedosov star product on a symplectic manifold (M,ω)(M,\omega) emanating from the fibrewise Weyl product \circ, a symplectic torsion free connection \nabla on M, a formal series ΩνZdR2(M)[[ν]]\Omega \in \nu Z^2_{\rm\tiny dR}(M)[[\nu]] of closed two-forms on M and a certain formal series s of symmetric contravariant tensor fields on M. For a given symplectic vector field X on M we derive necessary and sufficient conditions for the triple (,Ω,s)(\nabla,\Omega,s) determining the star product * on which the Lie derivative \Lie_X with respect to X is a derivation of *. Moreover, we also give additional conditions on which \Lie_X is even a quasi-inner derivation. Using these results we find necessary and sufficient criteria for a Fedosov star product to be g\mathfrak g-invariant and to admit a quantum Hamiltonian. Finally, supposing the existence of a quantum Hamiltonian, we present a cohomological condition on Ω\Omega that is equivalent to the existence of a quantum momentum mapping. In particular, our results show that the existence of a classical momentum mapping in general does not imply the existence of a quantum momentum mapping.Comment: 15 pages, one corollary and one definition added to Section 4, typos remove
