Tunable multiwavelength SOA fiber laser with ultra-narrow wavelength spacing based on nonlinear polarization rotation

    Get PDF
A tunable multiwavelength fiber laser with ultra-narrow wavelength spacing and large wavelength number using a semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) has been demonstrated. Intensity-dependent transmission induced by nonlinear polarization rotation in the SOA accounts for stable multiwavelength operation with wavelength spacing less than the homogenous broadening linewidth of the SOA. Stable multiwavelength lasing with wavelength spacing as small as 0.08 nm and wavelength number up to 126 is achieved at room temperature. Moreover, wavelength tuning of 20.2 nm is implemented via polarization tuning

Abstract: An LOBS testbed is briefly introduced and TCP performance over OBS is experimentally investigated. Simulation and experimental results show that TCP performance is displayed differently with the loss of ACK (TCP Acknowledgement) burst and data burst

Plant-derived exosome-like nanovesicles: A novel nanotool for disease therapy

Exosomes are extracellular vesicles comprising bilayer phospholipid membranes and are secreted by eukaryotic cells. They are released via cellular exocytosis, contain DNA, RNA, proteins, and other substances, and participate in various cellular communications between tissues and organs. Since the discovery of exosomes in 1983, animal-derived exosomes have become a research focus for small-molecule drug delivery in biology, medicine, and other fields owing to their good biocompatibility and homing effects. Recent studies have found that plant-derived exosome-like nanovesicles (PELNVs) exhibit certain biological effects, such as anti-inflammatory and anti-tumor abilities, and have minimal toxic side effects. Because they are rich in active lipid molecules with certain pharmacological effects, PELNVs could be novel carriers for drug delivery. In this review, the biological formation and effects, isolation, and extraction of PELNVs, as well as characteristics of transporting drugs as carriers are summarized to provide new ideas and methods for future research on plant-derived exosome-like nanovesicles

Multiwavelength fiber laser with fine adjustment, based on nonlinear polarization rotation and birefringence fiber filter

We have proposed and demonstrated a multiwavelength fiber laser based on nonlinear polarization rotation (NPR). The mechanism for stable room-temperature multiwavelength operation contributes to the ability of the intensity-dependent loss in NPR to effectively alleviate mode competition. In addition, through tuning the birefringence fiber filter, the lasing wavelength can be accurately tuned in the free spectrum range of the in-line periodic filter

Design and optimization of evanescently coupled waveguide photodiodes

    No full text
We present the design and optimization of evanescently coupled waveguide photodiodes(EC-WPDs) based on the coupling modes theory and the beam propagation method. Efficient focalization of the optical power in the absorber is achieved by an appropriate choice of index matching layers of EC-WPDs. Numerical simulation shows that high-speed(40 GHz), high quantum efficiency(81%) and high linearity photodiodes can be achieved, and EC-WPDs are promising devices for future optical communication systems.?2011 Chinese Institute of Electronics
