Hedgehog spin texture and competing orders associated with strains on the surface of a topological crystalline insulator
We have investigated spin reorientation phenomena and interaction driven
effects under the presence of applied strains on the (001) surface of
PbSn(Te, Se) topological crystalline insulators, which host
multiple Dirac cones. Our analysis is based on a four-band model,
which captures the spin and orbital textures of the surface states at low
energies around the and points, including the Lifshitz
transition. Even without breaking the time-reversal symmetry, we find that
certain strains which break the mirror symmetry can induce hedgehog-like spin
texture associated with gap formation at the Dirac points. The Chern number of
the gapped surface ground state is shown to be tunable through the interplay of
strains and a perpendicular Zeeman field. We also consider effects of strain in
the presence of interactions in driving competing orders, and obtain the
associated phase diagram at the mean-field level. Potential applications of our
results for low power consuming electronics are discussed.Comment: 11 pages, 9 figures, and two table
Proposal to determine the Fermi-surface topology of a doped iron-based superconductor using bulk-sensitive Fourier-transform Compton scattering
We have carried out first-principles calculations of the Compton scattering
spectra to demonstrate that the filling of the hole Fermi surface in
LaOFFeAs produces a distinct signature in the Fourier transformed
Compton spectrum when the momentum transfer vector lies along the [100]
direction. We thus show how the critical concentration , where hole Fermi
surface pieces are filled up and the superconductivity mediated by
antiferromagnetic spin fluctuations is expected to be suppressed, can be
obtained in a bulk-sensitive manner.Comment: 4 pages, 6 figures, accepted in Physical Review

Knockdown of PsbO leads to induction of HydA and production of photobiological H2 in the green alga Chlorella sp. DT
Green algae are able to convert solar energy to H2 via the photosynthetic electron transport pathway under certain conditions. Algal hydrogenase (HydA, encoded by HYDA) is in charge of catalyzing the reaction: 2H+ + 2e− ↔ H2 but usually inhibited by O2, a byproduct of photosynthesis. The aim of this study was to knockdown PsbO (encoded by psbO), a subunit concerned with O2 evolution, so that it would lead to HydA induction. The alga, Chlorella sp. DT, was then transformed with short interference RNA antisense-psbO (siRNA-psbO) fragments. The algal mutants were selected by checking for the existence of siRNA-psbO fragments in their genomes and the low amount of PsbO proteins. The HYDA transcription and the HydA expression were observed in the PsbO-knockdown mutants. Under semi-aerobic condition, PsbO-knockdown mutants could photobiologically produce H2 which increased by as much as 10-fold in comparison to the wild type
Lindhard and RPA susceptibility computations in extended momentum space in electron doped cuprates
We present an approximation for efficient calculation of the Lindhard
susceptibility in a periodic system through the use of
simple products of real space functions and the fast Fourier transform (FFT).
The method is illustrated by providing results for the
electron doped cuprate NdCeCuO extended over several
Brillouin zones. These results are relevant for interpreting inelastic X-ray
scattering spectra from cuprates.Comment: 6 pages, 6 figures, accepted in Physical Review
Tet oncogene family member 2 gene alterations in childhood acute myeloid leukemia
Background/PurposeMutations in the tet oncogene family member 2 gene (TET2) are frequently found in adult patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Reports of TET2 mutations in children are limited. We assessed the prevalence of TET2 mutations in Taiwanese children with AML and analyzed their prognosis.MethodsBetween 1997 and 2010, a total of 69 consecutive children with AML were enrolled at the National Taiwan University Hospital. The analysis for TET2 mutations was performed using direct sequencing. Clinical characteristics and overall survival (OS) were compared between patients with and without TET2 alterations.ResultsIntronic and missense mutations were identified. No nonsense or frameshift mutations were observed. Two putative disease-causing missense mutations (S609C and A1865G) were identified in one patient. We estimated the prevalence of TET2 mutations in the current patient population to be 1.4%. The most common polymorphism was I1762V (45%), followed by V218M (12%), P29R (6%), and F868L (6%). Patients with polymorphism I1762V had an increased 10-year survival rate compared with patients without I1762V (48.4% vs. 25.7%, p = 0.049) by Chi-square test; OS was not different when examined using the Kaplan–Meier method (p = 0.104).ConclusionThe prevalence of TET2 mutations in children with AML compared with adults with AML was lower and less complex. Patient prognosis associated with TET2 mutations in children requires further investigation
Optimal Treadmill Attributes Configuration: A Text Mining Approach
New product development aims to create products aligning with consumer preferences, yet discrepancies exist between consumers’ ideal product attributes and manufacturers’ perceptions. Previous studies primarily utilized regression equations or conjoint analysis to determine product attributes’ impact on consumer utility, with limited discussion on optimal attribute combinations. This study adopts a configurational approach using product attribute configuration as the analysis unit. We hypothesize that an ideal configuration exists for treadmill attributes, where products closer to this configuration achieve higher sales. Using text mining to convert online reviews into numerical data, we construct regression equations based on configuration-ideal distance. Results confirm the existence of an ideal treadmill attribute configuration, providing concrete guidance for new product development
