Aero gas turbine flight performance estimation using engine gas path measurements

    Get PDF
Mature gas turbine performance simulation technology has been developed in the past decades and, therefore, gas turbine performance at different ambient and operating conditions can be well predicted if good thermodynamic performance software and necessary engine performance information are available. However, the performance of gas turbine engines of the same fleet may be slightly different from engine to engine due to manufacturing and assembly tolerance and may change over time due to engine degradation. Therefore, it is necessary to monitor and track important performance parameters of gas turbine engines, particularly those that cannot be directly measured, to ensure safe operation of the engines. For that reason, a novel gas turbine performance estimation method using engine gas path measurements has been developed to predict and track engine performance parameters at different ambient, flight, degraded, and part-load operating conditions. The method is based on the influence coefficient matrix of thermodynamic performance parameters of gas turbine engines and the Newton Contrary to the conventional gas turbine off-design performance predictions where component characteristic maps are essential, it has the advantage that no component characteristic maps are required for the predictions and, therefore, it is relatively simple thermodynamically, fast in calculation, and desirable in engineering applications. It is able to make important invisible performance parameters visible to gas turbine users, which is a useful complement to current engine condition monitoring techniques. The developed method was applied to the performance prediction of a model gas turbine engine similar to EJ200 low-bypass turbofan engine running at different altitudes, Mach numbers, and part load, with and without degradation, by using simulated gas path measurements to test the effectiveness of the method. The results show that the method is able to predict the engine performance with good accuracy without the consideration of measurement noise and with slightly lower accuracy when measurement noise is included. It takes about 30 s for a typical prediction point, which is suitable for offline performance tracking and condition monitoring. Theoretically, the method can be applied to the performance estimation of any types of gas turbine engines.–Raphson mathematical algorithm

Period of Marriage and Genetic Similarity in Height between Spouses in the United States over the 20th Century

Social norms regarding who marries whom have changed dramatically in the United States across the 20th century. These changes may influence the level of genetic similarity between spouses. This study investigates whether genetic similarity in height between husband and wife was influenced by a historical transition in spouse selection criteria, the transition from the companionate marriage to the individualized marriage, a great transition occurred in the 1960s. In the companionate marriage, husband and wife chose each other as companions, and the emphasis was on playing marital roles well: husbands being good breadwinners and wives being good homemakers. In the individualized marriage, the emphasis switched to individual feelings. As a result, when choosing their partners people tended to pay less attention to height, suggesting a smaller genetic correlation for height between spouses. Using data from the Health and Retirement Study, we find that the genetic correlation for height declined substantially in the individualized marriage. We conduct a number of analyses to test for the confounding effects of cohort and age, and to address population stratification, selection issues, and genetic relatedness between spouses. Evidence suggests that the effect of this transition is robust

RNA interference technology's research progress in the treatment of retinal disease

    Get PDF
RNA interference exists widely in animals, which can induce specific genetic sequence to silence by double-stranded RNA molecules at the mRNA level. As a kind of new methods of blocking gene expression, RNA interference technology has become increasingly mature and perfect, it has opened up a new approach of gene therapy. RNA interference can effectively prevent the formation of new vessels in retina, restrain the occurrence and development of the proliferative vitreous retinopathy, and induce apoptosis of retinoblastoma cells. The research progress of the RNA interference in the above retinopathy was summarized in this review

Search for C=+C=+ charmonium and XYZ states in e+e−→γ+He^+e^-\to \gamma+ H at BESIII

Within the framework of nonrelativistic quantum chromodynamics, we study the production of C=+C=+ charmonium states HH in e+e−→γ + He^+e^-\to \gamma~+~H at BESIII with H=ηc(nS)H=\eta_c(nS) (n=1, 2, 3, and 4), χcJ(nP)\chi_{cJ}(nP) (n=1, 2, and 3), and 1D2(nD)^1D_2(nD) (n=1 and 2). The radiative and relativistic corrections are calculated to next-to-leading order for SS and PP wave states. We then argue that the search for C=+C=+ XYZXYZ states such as X(3872)X(3872), X(3940)X(3940), X(4160)X(4160), and X(4350)X(4350) in e+e−→γ + He^+e^-\to \gamma~+~H at BESIII may help clarify the nature of these states. BESIII can search XYZXYZ states through two body process e+e−→γHe^+e^-\to \gamma H, where HH decay to J/ψπ+π−J/\psi \pi^+\pi^-, J/ψϕJ/\psi \phi, or DDˉD \bar D. This result may be useful in identifying the nature of C=+C=+ XYZXYZ states. For completeness, the production of C=+C=+ charmonium in e+e−→γ+ He^+e^-\to \gamma +~H at B factories is also discussed.Comment: Comments and suggestions are welcome. References are update

A convenient basis for the Izergin-Korepin model

We propose a convenient orthogonal basis of the Hilbert space for the Izergin-Korepin model (or the quantum spin chain associated with the A2(2)A^{(2)}_{2} algebra). It is shown that the monodromy-matrix elements acting on the basis take relatively simple forms (c.f. acting on the original basis ), which is quite similar as that in the so-called F-basis for the quantum spin chains associated with AA-type (super)algebras. As an application, we present the recursive expressions of Bethe states in the basis for the Izergin-Korepin model.Comment: 24 pages, no figure

Tyrosine phosphorylation of HPK1 by activated Src promotes ischemic brain injury in rat hippocampal CA1 region

AbstractHematopoietic progenitor kinase 1 (HPK1) is a hematopoietic cell-restricted member of the Ste20 serine/threonine kinase super family. We recently reported that HPK1 is involved in c-Jun NH2-terminal kinase (JNK) signaling pathway by sequential activation of MLK3–MKK7–JNK3 after cerebral ischemia. Here, we used 4-amino-5-(4-chlorophenyl)-7-(t-butyl) pyrazolo [3,4-d] pyrimidine (PP2) and MK801 to investigate the events upstream of HPK1 in ischemic brain injury. Immunoprecipitation and immunoblot results showed that PP2 and MK801 significantly decreased the activation of Src, HPK1, MLK3, JNK3 and c-Jun, respectively, during ischemia/reperfusion. Histology and TUNEL staining showed PP2 or MK801 protects against neuron death after brain ischemia. We speculate that this unique signaling pathway through the tyrosine phosphorylation of HPK1 promotes ischemic brain injury by activated Src via N-methyl-d-aspartate receptor and, ultimately, the activation of the MLK3–MKK7–JNK3 pathway after cerebral ischemia
