Death is the one certainty in life. This fascinates me and I cannot stop thinking about it. When it comes to life and death, the cemetery is a more realistic place than heaven and hell, and it is also a place to feel life and death more directly. A simple gravestone separates life from death. Cemeteries let people come face to face with life, death, and even love.
In a cemetery, there is a tranquility that is different from the city or nature. In a cemetery, people take off their masks and face their emotions. I believe that when we talk about cemeteries, there should be more than just fear. It seems to me that cemeteries are a place that could connect life and death. They are full of memories from the living and the dead. They are filled with both life and death
HERMENEUTICS AND NOVELS IN MING-QING DYNASTIES
Abstract:Common points exist between the doctrine of “investigatory reference” in literature commentaries on novels in Ming and Qing dynasties and the doctrine of “closing reading” in Anglo-American literary commentaries. One of them is that both ideas aim at arriving at an understanding of the true meaning of a text. Both ideas emphasize that to have a true understanding of the true meaning of a text, a reader needs to go beyond the language and his/her subjectivity; a reader should have a macro vision to avoid a blind eye. Both ideas emphasize objectivity as an important principles of reading. Both ideas emphasize recognition of the objective existence of texts as the foundation of reading texts, and repeated reading as an important condition to ensure objectivity of reading
Effects of Grazers and Elevated Temperature on the Dynamics of a Wastewater Algal Treatment System
Wastewater algal treatment systems (ATS) have been shown to effectively remove excessive nutrients from wastewater and prevent eutrophication. However, the performance of ATS could be strongly affected by environmental factors. This study examined (1) the effect of grazers on nutrient removal rates and (2) the effect of 1.7 °C increase in temperature on algal biomass. The effect of grazers was assessed outdoors by analyzing dissolved and tissue nutrient concentrations in ATS with and without biological pesticide in two 20-day trials. The effect of elevated temperature was evaluated indoors by comparing algal biomass between heated and non-heated ATS for 20 days. Grazing had no consistent, detectable effect on nutrient removal rates or periphyton tissue nutrients. Furthermore elevated temperature had no detectable effect on algal growth rates. I conclude that the performance of recirculating ATS is unlikely to be affected by grazers or slight variations in temperature if harvesting regularly (days)
The detection of potentially harmful hand postures in pianists using Kinect depth images
Pianists who practice hours per day may have a risk for developing playing-related musculoskeletal injuries if they do not play with proper hand alignment. In order to detect the harmful, misaligned hand postures (such as wrist flexion and extension, knuckle collapse, and ulnar and radial deviation) and analyze the injury risk, a motion capture system was developed using the Microsoft Kinect depth camera. Data were captured on professional pianists and student pianists from the School of Music, University of Missouri. Hands were segmented out from the raw depth images and landmarks were then detected. Features were then extracted from the 3D point clouds reconstructed from the Kinect depth information and used for hand posture evaluation and classification. An interface was developed to review the logged data; ground truth was provided by an expert pianist using the interface to manually label the hand sample to be in a certain class. The labeled samples were then used to train classifiers. Results are included for different hand postures of 15 participating pianists
Investigating the Moderating Effect of Massively Multiplayer Online (MMO) Games on the Correlation Between Flow and Game Addiction: A Meta-Analysis
The flow theory of addiction suggests that the psychological flow state and addiction are positively correlated. However, based on 23 empirical studies involving 6,772 subjects, our meta-analysis shows that this relationship is significantly weakened in massively multiplayer online (MMO) games. Our results suggest that game genre, which is often overlooked in existing theories, warrants more attention in future research on game addiction. For game developers, our results suggest that it is particularly important for non-MMO games to provide a good match between game challenge and player skill level, which is essential to the flow experience. As MMO games have been reported to be more addictive than non-MMO games, future research should also investigate the unique characteristics of MMO games that cause addiction in this game genre
