Jet reconstruction with first data in ATLAS

This talk presents the aspects of jet reconstruction with early LHC data in ATLAS. Measurement of jets and their properties is an important issue for many physics analyses, e.g. top-quark and standard model physics as well as searches beyond the standard model. Moreover, the performance obtained for jet reconstruction has a direct impact on the quality of the measurement of the missing transverse energy. The algorithms used for the jet reconstruction in ATLAS will be presented. General performance aspects like jet finding efficiency, jet energy scale uncertainties and the achievable jet energy resolution are discussed. Strategies and concepts of the jet calibration from the basic calorimeter signals to particle and parton level will be outlined, including aspects of relative and absolute corrections derived from in-situ calibration channels accessible in first data, like QCD di-jets and direct photon production
