    Properties of CLC According to Replacement Ratio of Cao-CSA Expansive Additive

    According to the National Statistical Office\u27s 2019 Population and Housing Survey in August 2020, the number of apartments, including apartments, was about 14 million last year, accounting for 77.2% of all houses, of which 11.287 million were 80.6% of apartments. Based on this change in housing trends, researchers have developed and studied cellular light-weight concrete (CLC) that can be cured at room temperature and normal pressure with advantages such as light weight, insulation, and construction. There have been several studies in Korea, including state-run projects, but they have not been commercialized, but the biggest reason is that stability has not been secured. Therefore, to improve the reliability of CLC that can be cured at normal temperature and pressure, this study attempts to analyze the properties of CLC by incorporating CaO-CSA expansive additive. Based on the drying density of 0.55-0.65 kg/m3, cement, blast furnace slag, animal foaming additive and fiber are utilized to analyze the properties of CLC with CaO-CSA expansive and the results are as follows. By using the CaO-CSA expansive additive, it is determined that the formation of calcium hydroxide and ettringite fills the CLC between the tobermorite layers and the internal structure becomes dense. Currently, based on KS F 2701, the compression strength based on 0.6 items is more than 4.9 MPa, and the strength is about twice as strong as that of the existing CLC, and durability of the CLC are improved by incorporating CaO-CSA expansive additive

    Monitoring transfected cells without selection agents by using the dual-cassette expression EGFP vectors

    Conventional methods of selecting gene transfected cells by toxic agents may yield ambiguous results. It is difficult to determine whether cell death is due to selection agents or gene transfection, owing to the substantial overlap of the time-courses for both effects. Therefore, to determine transfection-induced cell toxicity, the mammalian expression vector pEGFP-N1 (CLONTECH Lab., Palo Alto, CA, USA) has been modified to the dual-cassette expression vectors named pEGFP-Ks by the relocation of its EGFP expression cassette. We have precisely monitored the cells transfected with this vector on our custom culture dishes, thereby bypassing the need for selection agent or fluorescent cell sorting. This is a useful method to screen genes encoding potential toxic or useful proteins without performing undesirable selection agent and also can be used to monitor the transfected cells for various purposes, either the inhibition or proliferation of mammalian cells for applications in biotechnology

    Echovirus 30 Induced Neuronal Cell Death through TRIO-RhoA Signaling Activation

    BACKGROUND: Echovirus 30 (Echo30) is one of the most frequently identified human enteroviruses (EVs) causing aseptic meningitis and encephalitis. However the mechanism underlying the pathogenesis of Echo30 infection with significant clinical outcomes is not completely understood. The aim of this investigation is to illustrate molecular pathologic alteration in neuronal cells induced by Echo30 infection using clinical isolate from young patient with neurologic involvement. METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDINGS: To characterize the neuronal cellular response to Echo30 infection, we performed a proteomic analysis based on two-dimensional gel electrophoresis (2-DE) and MALDI-TOF/TOF Mass Spectrophotometric (MS) analysis. We identified significant alteration of several protein expression levels in Echo30-infected SK-N-SH cells. Among these proteins, we focused on an outstanding up-regulation of Triple functional domain (TRIO) in Echo30-infected SK-N-SH cells. Generally, TRIO acts as a key component in the regulation of axon guidance and cell migration. In this study, we determined that TRIO plays a role in the novel pathways in Echo30 induced neuronal cell death. CONCLUSIONS/SIGNIFICANCE: Our finding shows that TRIO plays a critical role in neuronal cell death by Echo30 infection. Echo30 infection activates TRIO-guanine nucleotide exchange factor (GEF) domains (GEFD2) and RhoA signaling in turn. These results suggest that Echo30 infection induced neuronal cell death by activation of the TRIO-RhoA signaling. We expect the regulation of TRIO-RhoA signaling may represent a new therapeutic approach in treating aseptic meningitis and encephalitis induced by Echo30

    Continuous Decomposition of Granularity for Neural Paraphrase Generation

    While Transformers have had significant success in paragraph generation, they treat sentences as linear sequences of tokens and often neglect their hierarchical information. Prior work has shown that decomposing the levels of granularity~(e.g., word, phrase, or sentence) for input tokens has produced substantial improvements, suggesting the possibility of enhancing Transformers via more fine-grained modeling of granularity. In this work, we propose a continuous decomposition of granularity for neural paraphrase generation (C-DNPG). In order to efficiently incorporate granularity into sentence encoding, C-DNPG introduces a granularity-aware attention (GA-Attention) mechanism which extends the multi-head self-attention with: 1) a granularity head that automatically infers the hierarchical structure of a sentence by neurally estimating the granularity level of each input token; and 2) two novel attention masks, namely, granularity resonance and granularity scope, to efficiently encode granularity into attention. Experiments on two benchmarks, including Quora question pairs and Twitter URLs have shown that C-DNPG outperforms baseline models by a remarkable margin and achieves state-of-the-art results in terms of many metrics. Qualitative analysis reveals that C-DNPG indeed captures fine-grained levels of granularity with effectiveness.Comment: Accepted to be published in COLING 202

    Association of Adenotonsillar Disease and Adenotonsillectomy With the Development of Vitiligo: A Nationwide Population-Based Cohort Study

    BACKGROUND: Vitiligo is a common acquired skin depigmentation disorder and is associated with various other autoimmune diseases which include thyroid disease and rheumatoid arthritis. Similarly, adenotonsillar disease (ATD) may induce inflammatory or autoimmune diseases in other organs which include the skin. However, the influence of ATD on the development of vitiligo has not been studied. OBJECTIVES: To determine the association between ATD and adenotonsillectomy, and the development of vitiligo. DESIGN AND METHODS: Using data from the National Health Insurance Service database, patients diagnosed with ATD between 2008 and 2010 were included in the study. We performed two rounds of 1:1 propensity score matching in the ATD and adenotonsillectomy groups. The ATD and non-ATD groups both included 206,514 individuals. Among the ATD group, the adenotonsillectomy and non-adenotonsillectomy groups both included 23,354 individuals. Each individual was monitored until 2019. The primary end point was the risk of vitiligo. Using the Cox Proportional Hazards model, the incidence of vitiligo and the hazard ratio (HR) were calculated. RESULTS: The incidence of vitiligo was 1.16-fold higher in the ATD group than in the non-ATD group [adjusted HR (aHR), 1.16; 95% confidence interval (CI), 1.09-1.24] and 0.82-fold lower in the adenotonsillectomy group than in the non-adenotonsillectomy group (aHR, 0.82; 95% CI, 0.68-0.99). Additionally, the other risk factors for developing vitiligo included thyroid disease (aHR, 1.48; 95% CI, 1.11-1.98), age younger than 30 years (aHR, 1.18; 95% CI, 1.09-1.27), and age over 60 years (aHR, 1.22; 95% CI, 1.06-1.41), whereas factors including rural residency (aHR, 0.91; 95% CI, 0.85-0.98) and low economic status (aHR 0.87; 95% CI, 0.82-0.93) were associated with decreased incidence of vitiligo. CONCLUSION: In this study, ATD increases the risk of vitiligo and adenotonsillectomy attenuates its development. Clinicians should consider ATD as a pathogenic factor for vitiligo and the potential effect of adenotonsillectomy in its management
