A Two-Coordinate Nickel Imido Complex That Effects Cāˆ’H Amination

    Get PDF
An exceptionally low coordinate nickel imido complex, (IPr*)Niā•N(dmp) (2) (dmp = 2,6-dimesitylphenyl), has been prepared by the elimination of N_2 from a bulky aryl azide in its reaction with (IPr*)Ni(Ī·^6-C_7H_8) (1). The solid-state structure of 2 features two-coordinate nickel with a linear Cāˆ’Niāˆ’N core and a short Niāˆ’N distance, both indicative of multiple-bond character. Computational studies using density functional theory showed a Niā•N bond dominated by Ni(dĻ€)āˆ’N(pĻ€) interactions, resulting in two nearly degenerate singly occupied molecular orbitals (SOMOs) that are Niāˆ’N Ļ€* in character. Reaction of 2 with CO resulted in nitrene-group transfer to form (dmp)NCO and (IPr*)Ni(CO)_3 (3). Net Cāˆ’H insertion was observed in the reaction of 2 with ethene, forming the vinylamine (dmp)NH(CHā•CH_2) (5) via an azanickelacyclobutane intermediate, (IPr*)Ni{N,C:Īŗ^2-N(dmp)CH_2CH_2} (4)

Magnetic groundstate and Fermi surface of bcc Eu

Using spin-spiral technique within the full potential linearized augmented-plane-waves (LAPW) electronic structure method we investigate the magnon spectrum and N\'eel temperature of bcc Eu. Ground state corresponding to an incommensurate spin-spiral is obtained in agreement with experiment and previous calculations. We demonstrate that the magnetic coupling is primarily through the intra-atomic fāˆ’sf-s and fāˆ’df-d exchange and Ruderman-Kittel-Kasuya-Yosida mechanism. We show that the existence of this spin-spiral is closely connected to a nesting feature of the Fermi surface which was not noticed before.Comment: 6 pages 8 figure

Yeah, Right, Uh-Huh: A Deep Learning Backchannel Predictor

Using supporting backchannel (BC) cues can make human-computer interaction more social. BCs provide a feedback from the listener to the speaker indicating to the speaker that he is still listened to. BCs can be expressed in different ways, depending on the modality of the interaction, for example as gestures or acoustic cues. In this work, we only considered acoustic cues. We are proposing an approach towards detecting BC opportunities based on acoustic input features like power and pitch. While other works in the field rely on the use of a hand-written rule set or specialized features, we made use of artificial neural networks. They are capable of deriving higher order features from input features themselves. In our setup, we first used a fully connected feed-forward network to establish an updated baseline in comparison to our previously proposed setup. We also extended this setup by the use of Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) networks which have shown to outperform feed-forward based setups on various tasks. Our best system achieved an F1-Score of 0.37 using power and pitch features. Adding linguistic information using word2vec, the score increased to 0.39

Friction and Wear Characteristics of Candidate Foil Bearing Materials from 25 C to 800 C

The friction and wear behavior of unlubricated metal/metal sliding couples was investigated to screen potential candidates for high temperature foil bearings. The tribo-tests were run in an induction-heated high temperature pin-on-disk tribometer in an air atmosphere at a load of 4.9 N and at a sliding velocity of 1 m/s. The friction and wear properties of several nickel based alloys (Rene'41, Inconel X-750, Inconel 713C), iron based alloys (MA956 and Inconel 909) and a ceramic (Al2O3) were tested at 25, 500, and 800 C. In general, at elevated temperatures the alloys oxidized and formed a tenacious and lubricous oxide surface film or layer. At 800 C, Inconel X-750 versus Rene'41 had the lowest friction coefficient (0.27) and at 500 C, Inconel X-750 versus Inconel 909 the lowest pin wear (2.84 x 10(exp -6)cu mm/N-m). Gouging and severe wear of the softer material occurred whenever a significant difference in hardness existed between the pin and disk specimens

Tribological evaluation of PS300: A new chrome oxide based solid lubricant coating sliding against Al2O3 From 25 to 650 C

This paper presents the tribological characteristics of Al203 sliding against PS300; a chrome oxide based self lubricating coating. Al203 pins were slid against PS300 coated superalloy disks in air, under a 4.9 N load at velocities of 1 to 8 m/s. At a sliding velocity of 1 m/s, friction ranged from 0.6 at 25 C to 0.2 at 650 C. Wear factors for the Al203 pins were in the 10(exp -7) mm(exp 3)/N-m range and for the PS300 coating was in the 10(exp -5) mm(exp 3)/N-m range. The test results suggest that increased surface temperature resulting from either frictional heating, generated by increased sliding velocity, or ambient heating caused a reduction in friction and wear of the sliding couple. Based upon these results, the tested material combination is a promising candidate for high temperature wear applications
