    Hydrodynamic and Advection-Dispersion Simulation of Cool Seawater Discharges from an LNG Facility

    7-14The impact of cool seawater discharge in the coastal waters from a Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) plant has been simulated using MIKE21. In this work, hydrodynamics conditions of the coastal waters were calibrated and corroborated to predict the cool seawater discharge under two plant design scenarios by selecting flow rate 15 m3/s and 10 m3/s with a temperature drop of 5 °C and 7 °C, respectively. The simulations were carried out under different scenarios, to arrive at the best possible case to minimize the potential impact on the coastal environment. Both the simulated scenarios complied with the available World Bank guidelines for LNG facilities. However, the designed scenario of flow rate 10 m3/s with a temperature drop of 7 °C between inlet and outlet presents a better choice as it reduces the pumping power of seawater intake. As there are no Indian guidelines for cool seawater discharges from LNG plant, the present work can support the policymakers and regulators to formulate coherent discharge standards

    DEVELOPMENT AND VALIDATION OF UV SPECTROPHOTOMETRIC METHOD FOR QUANTITATIVE ESTIMATION OF LAFUTIDINE IN BULK AND PHARMACEUTICAL DOSAGE FORM

    Objective: The objectives of the present research was to develop a simple, precise, economical, accurate, reproducible and sensitive method for the quantitative estimation of lafutidine in bulk and its pharmaceutical dosage forms by Ultra Violet (UV) absorption spectrophotometry.Methods: The method uses 0.1 N HCl, pH 1.20 as a solvent of choice for the quantitative estimation of lafutidine in bulk and its tablets dosage form by UV absorption spectrophotometry at a wavelength of 290 nm. The method was validated for parameters like linearity, range, precision, Limit of Detection (LOD), Limit of Quantification (LOQ), accuracy, recovery and stability of the analyte.Results: Lafutidine exhibited absorbance maxima at 290 nm in 0.1 N HCl, pH 1.20 solvent. The developed method was validated as per the ICH validation guidelines. Beer's law was obeyed in range of 0-30 µg/ml with r2= 0.9997. The LOD and LOQ values of lafutidine were found to be 0.545 µg/ml and 1.654 µg/ml respectively. The mean % recovery for the developed method was found to be in the range of 99.25 to 99.45 % respectively for the marketed dosage forms. The developed method was also found to be robust.Conclusion: The developed method was found suitable for the routine quantitative analysis of lafutidinein bulk and pharmaceutical dosage form.     Development of Graphene Nanoplatelets Reinforced Shape Memory Polyurethane and Their DMA Studies

    Shape memory nanocomposites have been synthesized using ether type shape memory polyurethane (SMPU) and graphene nanoplatelets (GNPs). A twin screw co-rotating microcompounder with a back flow channel has been employed to ensure proper dispersion of GNPs in the polymer matrix. Four compositions of GNPs in SMPU have been prepared. Morphology of fractured nanocomposites reveals uniform dispersion of graphene in SMPU. The dynamic-thermo-mechanical properties of nanocomposites at 0.1 and 10 Hz have been studied. Addition of 1 phr GNPs increases storage modulus of SMPU from 2.8 to 3.73 GPa and the value of tan δ peak has been decreased from 0.81 to 0.53. The GNPs in SMPU matrix influence shape recovery which improves with the addition of GNPs with in experimental range

    Development of Nano SiO2 Particles Dispersed Shape Memory Epoxy Composites

    Thermo responsive shape memory epoxy based composites are being investigated for their excellent mechanical and thermal properties. In present study the thermosetting epoxy containing different composition of SiO2 nano particles ranging from 1 to 4 wt. % have been prepared through solvent casting route. Developed composites have been studied for grain analysis, FTIR, shape recovery, impact strength and hardness. Addition of 3 wt. % SiO2 improves hardness and impact strength significantly. Average grain size of SiO2 particles increase at higher wt. % of SiO2 in polymer matrix due to agglomeration of nanoparticles

    Securing the Biometric through ECG using Machine Learning Techniques

    In the current era, biometrics is widely used for maintaining the security. To extract the information from the biomedical signals, biomedical signal processing is needed. One of the significant tools used for the diagnostic is electrocardiogram (ECG). The main reason behind this is the certain uniqueness in the ECG signals of the individual.  In this paper, the focus will be on distinguishing the individual on the basis of ECG signals using feature extraction approaches and the machine learning algorithms. Other than preprocessing approach, the discrete cosine transform is applied to perform the extraction. The classification between the signals of the individuals is carried out using the Support Vector Machine and K-Nearest Neighbor machine learning techniques.  The classification accuracy achieved through SVM is 87% and K-NN has achieved a classification accuracy of 96.6% with k=3. The work has shown how machine learning can be used to classify the ECG signal

    Non hodgkin’s lymphoma misdiagnosed as tuberculosis: A case report

    Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma is a heterogeneous group of malignancies characterized by an abnormal clonal proliferation of T-cells, B-cells or both. Sometimes, tuberculosis and lymphoma presentation can share common symptoms and features. A 37-year-old male patient was admitted in the hospital with complains of shortness of breath associated with cough, loss of appetite, generalized weakness and weight loss since two months. There were no palpable peripheral lymph nodes present anywhere in the body. The patient had no personal or family history of tuberculosis. The chest X-ray showed bilateral mild pleural effusion with confluent radio opacities in both lung fields. Pleural fluid biochemistry showed increased Adenosine deaminase level with increased protein and low sugar. Antitubercular drugs were started after initial diagnosis of tuberculosis. After non improvement in symptoms fine needleaspiration cytology (FNAC) was done from spleen which showed finding suggestive of non- hodgkins lymphoma

    Comparative efficacy of intravenous premedication of clonidine versus nalbuphine on intraoperative hemodynamic profile of patients during surgery under general anesthesia: a randomized study

    Background: Airway manipulation and surgical stimulation lead to variable changes in hemodynamic profile due to increase in plasma catecholamine levels, but these changes can be attenuated by appropriate premedication. The present study was designed to compare the clinical efficacy of intravenous premedication of clonidine with nalbuphine on intraoperative hemodynamic profile of patients during surgery under general anaesthesia.Methods: Sixty adult consenting patients of ASA physical status I and II of either gender were randomized into two groups of 30 patients each, to receive either intravenous clonidine (2 ÎĽg/kg) or nalbuphine (0.2 mg/kg), 10 min before induction with propofol. Direct laryngoscopy and intubation were facilitated with vecuronium bromide. Changes in heart rate, blood pressure and electrocardiogram were recorded at specific time intervals and were noted as primary variable. Any adverse effects and complications were recorded as secondary outcomes.Results: After laryngoscopy and intubation, the increase in mean heart rate and mean blood pressure occurred immediately in patients of both groups, but persisted up to 6 to 10 min in patients of clonidine group, thereafter the changes returned back to baseline values, while in patients of nalbuphine group, this increase persisted up to 8 to 10 min. The differences in hemodynamic changes between the groups were statistically significant throughout the surgery and post extubation.Conclusions: Intravenous clonidine was more effective than nalbuphine to attenuate the hemodynamics changes during stressful period of laryngoscopy, intubation and surgery
