Quantum Gravitational Contributions to the CMB Anisotropy Spectrum

We derive the primordial power spectrum of density fluctuations in the framework of quantum cosmology. For this purpose we perform a Born-Oppenheimer approximation to the Wheeler-DeWitt equation for an inflationary universe with a scalar field. In this way we first recover the scale-invariant power spectrum that is found as an approximation in the simplest inflationary models. We then obtain quantum gravitational corrections to this spectrum and discuss whether they lead to measurable signatures in the CMB anisotropy spectrum. The non-observation so far of such corrections translates into an upper bound on the energy scale of inflation.Comment: 4 pages, v3: sign error in Eq. (5) and its consequences correcte

Higgs-strahlung and WWWW fusion in e+e−e^+e^- collisions

Higgs-strahlung e+e−→ZHe^+e^-\to ZH and WWWW fusion e+e−→νˉeνeHe^+e^-\to\bar\nu_e\nu_e H are the most important mechanisms for the production of Higgs bosons in e+e−e^+e^- collisions at LEP2 and future e+e−e^+e^- linear colliders. We have calculated the cross sections and energy/angular distributions of the Higgs boson for these production mechanisms. When the ZZ boson decays into (electron-)neutrinos, the two production amplitudes interfere. In the cross-over region between the two mechanisms the interference term is positive and of the same size as the individual cross sections, thus enhancing the production rate.Comment: 9 pages LaTeX2e (using standard graphicx package), 8 figure

Isomorphism between Linear Codes and Arithmetic Codes for Safe Data Processing in Embedded Software Systems

    Get PDF
We present a transformation rule to convert linear codes into arithmetic codes. Linear codes are usually used for error detection and correction in broadcast and storage systems. In contrast, arithmetic codes are very suitable for protection of software processing in computer systems. This paper shows how to transform linear codes protecting the data stored in a computer system into arithmetic codes safeguarding the operations built on this data. Combination of the advantages of both coding mechanisms will increase the error detection capability in safety critical applications for embedded systems by detection and correction of arbitrary hardware faults

While many aspects of Etruscan religion are intensively discussed and studied through current conferences, publications and fieldwork, general research and an overview of the socio-political and economic significance of the religious sphere in Etruscan society is still lacking. This volume examines the economic roles and functions of sanctuaries, as well as their pottery assemblages and vase inscriptions, in the Etruscan heartland during the 8th–5th cent. BCE. The investigation of the Etruscan sacred economy is performed on the basis of three main research questions: the reconstruction of pottery consumption patterns, the identification of production and crafts embedded into sacred contexts, and finally the analysis of the Etruscan sacred landscape as an indicator of socio-political structures and processes

A Normalized Autoencoder for LHC Triggers

Autoencoders are an effective analysis tool for the LHC, as they represent one of its main goal of finding physics beyond the Standard Model. The key challenge is that out-of-distribution anomaly searches based on the compressibility of features do not apply to the LHC, while existing density-based searches lack performance. We present the first autoencoder which identifies anomalous jets symmetrically in the directions of higher and lower complexity. The normalized autoencoder combines a standard bottleneck architecture with a well-defined probabilistic description. It works better than all available autoencoders for top vs QCD jets and reliably identifies different dark-jet signals.Comment: 26 pages, 11 figures; update based on referees repor

Food Intake, Diet Quality and Behavioral Problems in Children: Results from the GINI-plus/LISA-plus Studies

Background/Aims: To assess the association between food intake and diet quality and behavioral problems at the 10-year follow-up of the two population-based birth cohorts of the studies German Infant Nutritional Intervention and `Influences of lifestyle-related factors on the immune system and the development of allergies in childhood'. Methods: Cross-sectional data on food intake over the past year were collected by a parent-reported food frequency questionnaire. Diet quality was based on reference values of food amounts of the optimized mixed diet. Behavioral problems were assessed by a parent-reported Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire. Relationships between food category intake, diet quality and behavior problems were examined using multivariable regression modeling adjusted for gender, sociodemographic characteristics, body mass index, physical exercise, television viewing/PC use and total energy intake. A total of 3,361 children with complete data were analyzed. Results: Children with increased intake of confectionery had increased odds of having emotional symptoms {[}adjusted odds ratio (ORadj) 1.19, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.08-1.32] compared to children with low intake. A higher diet quality score was associated with lower likelihood of emotional symptoms (ORadj 0.89, 95% CI 0.80-0.98). The un-adjusted significant relationship between diet quality and hyperactivity/inattention was attenuated by adjusting for several confounders to an ORadj of 0.92 (95% CI 0.82-1.03). Conclusions: Increased consumption of high-sugar products and lower diet quality are associated with a higher likelihood of emotional symptoms in children. Copyright (C) 2012 S. Karger AG, Base
