The Use of Reference Models in Business Process Renovation

Enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems are often used by companies to automate and enhance their business processes. The capabilities of ERP systems can be described by best-practice reference models. The purpose of the article is to demonstrate the business process renovation approach with the use of reference models. Although the use of reference models brings many positive effects for business, they are still rarely used in Slovenian small and medium-sized companies. The reasons for this may be found in the reference models themselves as well as in project implementation methodologies. In the article a reference model based on Microsoft Dynamics NAV is suggested. The reference model is designed using upgraded BPMN notation with additional business objects, which help to describe the models in more detail.ERP solution, reference model, businessprocess renovation, Microsoft Dynamics NAV, BPMN

The paper presents the results a survey on the strategic IS planning practices of Slovenia\u27s large organizations. The survey was based on a questionnaire previously developed in Singapore, and the results from both countries, one a developed country and the other in transition, are compared. It highlights the participation, critical success factors, initiators and the main benefits of strategic IS planning. The results, when compared to similar studies, show a very low number of companies that use strategic IS planning. It is also interesting to note that top management plays the role of a leading initiator in Slovenian organizations whereas the role of IS management is surprisingly modest. The main benefits of the strategic IS planning from the Slovenian business perspective are improved internal co-ordination, efficient and effective management of IS resources and improved productivity

SOA Adoption Phases - A Case Study

The paper argues that attitudes to SOA follow a typical hype cycle from Technological Trigger, Peak of Inflated Expectations, and a Trough of Disillusionment to the more recent realization that SOA is a concept that may offer certain benefits but has several limitations. Themain research question studies how the attitude to SOA changes in various phases of the hype cycle, how the SOA implementation cycle and an increase in business process maturity (BPMa) are interconnected and which factors influence the transition between the hype cycle phases. The paper shows that an organizationā€™s success with implementing SOA depends on its ability to match the SOA implementation with an increase in BPMa. The dual purpose of implementing SOA is shown in the first framework: to assure the coherence of IT assets and to assure business/IT alignment. In the second framework, the interconnection of SOA and BPMa and its role in transiting through the hype cycle phases is outlined. The findings are analyzed using a longitudinal case study of a large Slovenian company

Methods and techniques of business process management as known in the private sector are being used more and more in the public sector. This paper demonstrates their applicability to systems where the human factor is more important. It describes a case study of filling unoccupied capacities in an old people\u27s home. The simulation techniques are used as a replacement for the exact deterministic planning. Our research shows that by using the simulation it is possible to predict the effects of the renovation and the duration of the processes and bottlenecks and to thereby avoid bad decisions. NaÅ”e istraživanje pokazuje da koriÅ”tenje simulacije omogućuje predviđanje efekata renoviranja i trajanja procesa i uskih grla a time i izbjegavanje loÅ”ih odluka

Researching effects of media and advertising demands a search for a cost efficient, quick and verified method of testing the its emotional as well as rational effects on consumers. Thus a CASC (Communication Analytic and Syncretic Cognitions) scale was developed to meassure advertising effects and was selected for testing. In an extended research presented in this paper and based on 988 respondents evaluating 15 different ads we provided evidence that verify this scale on four different groups of ad motives. In addition we have tested individual ads and their complience with the suggested motives based on the theory and the four separate components (rational component, primary emotions, pro-social emotions and individualistic emotions). The findings confirm that CASC scale is able to detect differences between different motives and is thus an effective tool for measuring advertising effects

Media exposure and education of first to six grade children from slovenia - parent opinions

The family environment plays an important role in influencing the way that children use the media and the degree of their exposure to media, however the mediating role of parents in this process is not sufficiently understood. The present paper presents the results of a 2016 Slovenian national survey in which opinions of 2,825 parents concerning their childrenā€™s exposure to media were collected and analysed using the SPSS PSAW Statistic 18 software package. Our results show that exposure to media by children from the first to the sixth grade increases with age, that children of parents who are themselves heavy media users are more likely to be heavy users and that children who are heavy media users also receive lower test scores
