    Dark filaments observed at 8.3mm and 3.1mm wavelength

    Mapping of the sun was made at 3.1mm (98 GHz) and 8.3mm (36 GHz) wavelengths with a 45m dish radio telescope at the Nobeyama Cosmic Radio Observatory. The depressions associated with large H alpha filaments are derived to be -0.2 at 8.3mm and -0.05 at 3.1mm, which are darker than the values inferred by Raoult et al. (1979

    First Detection of Ar-K Line Emission from the Cygnus Loop

    We observed the Cygnus Loop with XMM-Newton (9 pointings) and Suzaku (32 pointings) between 2002 and 2008. The total effective exposure time is 670.2 ks. By using all of the available data, we intended to improve a signal-to-noise ratio of the spectrum. Accordingly, the accumulated spectra obtained by the XIS and the EPIC show some line features around 3 keV that are attributed to the S Heβ\beta and Ar Heα\alpha lines, respectively. Since the Cygnus Loop is an evolved (\sim10,000 yr) supernova remnant whose temperature is relatively low (<<1 keV) compared with other young remnants, its spectrum is generally faint above 3.0 keV, no emission lines, such as the Ar-K line have ever been detected. The detection of the Ar-K line is the first time and we found that its abundance is significantly higher than that of the solar value; 9.03.8+4.0^{+4.0}_{-3.8} and 8.42.7+2.5^{+2.5}_{-2.7} (in units of solar), estimated from the XIS and the EPIC spectra, respectively. We conclude that the Ar-K line originated from the ejecta of the Cygnus Loop. Follow-up X-ray observations to tightly constrain the abundances of Ar-rich ejecta will be useful to accurately estimate the progenitor's mass.Comment: 12 pages, 9 figures, accepted for publication in PAS

    NASDA knowledge-based network planning system

    One of the SODS (space operation and data system) sub-systems, NP (network planning) was the first expert system used by NASDA (national space development agency of Japan) for tracking and control of satellite. The major responsibilities of the NP system are: first, the allocation of network and satellite control resources and, second, the generation of the network operation plan data (NOP) used in automated control of the stations and control center facilities. Up to now, the first task of network resource scheduling was done by network operators. NP system automatically generates schedules using its knowledge base, which contains information on satellite orbits, station availability, which computer is dedicated to which satellite, and how many stations must be available for a particular satellite pass or a certain time period.     Single-crystal growth of underdoped Bi-2223

    To investigate the origin of the enhanced Tc ({\approx} 110 K) of the trilayer cuprate superconductor Bi2Sr2Ca2Cu3O10+{\delta} (Bi-2223), its underdoped single crystals are a critical requirement. Here, we demonstrate the first successful in-plane resistivity measurements of heavily underdoped Bi-2223 (zero-resistivity temperatures {\approx} 20~35 K).     Analysis of IgE turnover in non-sensitized and sensitized rats.

    BACKGROUND: Although the levels of immunoglobulin E (IgE) in the circulating blood are often elevated in patients with allergic diseases, such levels cannot always be considered as pathognomonic signs of allergy. The induction of allergic reactions in the tissue was inferred to be related to the amount of IgE passing through the vascular wall. AIMS: We attempted to clarify which compartment, the intravascular or extravascular, plays an important role in the regulation of the turnover of rat IgE. METHODS: The level of DNP-specific rat IgE in the serum was estimated by IgE-capture enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, and the turnover of IgE was analyzed from its pharmacokinetic parameters. RESULTS: The transfer rate constants from the central to tissue compartment (Kct) were larger than those from the tissue to central compartment (Ktc) irrespective of the sensitized state. The value of the distribution volume of the tissue compartment (Vt) was larger than that of the distribution volume of the central compartment (Vc) irrespective of the sensitized state. CONCLUSIONS: These Findings suggest that the short half-life of rat IgE in the circulation could be attributable to the distribution of IgE from the intravascular to the extravascular compartment

    Asymmetric Field Profile in Bose Glass Phase of Irradiated YBa2Cu3O7-d: Loss of Interlayer Coherence around 1/3 of Matching Field

    Magneto-optical imaging in YBa2Cu3O7-d with tilted columnar defects (CD's) shows an asymmetric critical-state field profile. The observed hysteretic shift of the profile ridge (trough) from the center of the sample is explained by in-plane magnetization originated from vortex alignment along CD's. The extracted ratio of the in-plane to out-of-plane magnetization component has a maximum at 1/5 of matching field (BΦB_\Phi) and disappears above BΦ/3B_\Phi/3, suggesting a reduction of interlayer coherence well bellow BΦB_\Phi in the Bose glass phase.     Multi-wavelength analysis of the field of the dark burst GRB 031220

    We have collected and analyzed data taken in different spectral bands (from X-ray to optical and infrared) of the field of GRB031220 and we present results of such multiband observations. Comparison between images taken at different epochs in the same filters did not reveal any strong variable source in the field of this burst. X-ray analysis shows that only two of the seven Chandra sources have a significant flux decrease and seem to be the most likely afterglow candidates. Both sources do not show the typical values of the R-K colour but they appear to be redder. However, only one source has an X-ray decay index (1.3 +/- 0.1) that is typical for observed afterglows. We assume that this source is the best afterglow candidate and we estimate a redshift of 1.90 +/- 0.30. Photometric analysis and redshift estimation for this object suggest that this GRB can be classified as a Dark Burst and that the obscuration is the result of dust extinction in the circum burst medium or inside the host galaxy.Comment: 7 pages, 5 figures, accepted for publication on A&
