An assembly to provide a time reference for the JPL Network Operations Control Center, Real-Time
A device is described which provides the value of date coordinated universal time (date UTC) to the JPL Network Operations Control Center, Real Time (NOCC-RT) facility. The NOCC-RT is the real time portion of the NOCC upgrade task. The time scale is generated in the NOCC-RT clock processor; however, there is a continuous reference to UTC, as realized by the National Institute of Standards and Technology and transmitted by Earth orbiting satellites. The tests are conducted at the Northeast Research and Extension Center at Keiser, the Vegetable Substation near Kibler, the Lon Mann Cotton Research Station near Marianna, the Newport Extension Center near Newport, the Rohwer Research Station near Rohwer, the Pine Tree Research Station near Colt, and the Hope Research and Extension Center. In addition, entries are evaluated in a stripe rust (Puccinia striiformis f.sp. tritici) inoculated nursery in Fayetteville and a Fusarium head blight (FHB) inoculated nursery in Newport and Fayetteville. 1I/2017 U1 (`Oumuamua) is Hot: Imaging, Spectroscopy and Search of Meteor Activity
1I/2017 U1 (`Oumuamua), a recently discovered asteroid in a hyperbolic orbit,
is likely the first macroscopic object of extrasolar origin identified in the
solar system. Here, we present imaging and spectroscopic observations of
\textquoteleft Oumuamua using the Palomar Hale Telescope as well as a search of
meteor activity potentially linked to this object using the Canadian Meteor
Orbit Radar. We find that \textquoteleft Oumuamua exhibits a moderate spectral
gradient of , a value significantly lower
than that of outer solar system bodies, indicative of a formation and/or
previous residence in a warmer environment. Imaging observation and spectral
line analysis show no evidence that \textquoteleft Oumuamua is presently
active. Negative meteor observation is as expected, since ejection driven by
sublimation of commonly-known cometary species such as CO requires an extreme
ejection speed of m s at au in order to reach the
Earth. No obvious candidate stars are proposed as the point of origin for
\textquoteleft Oumuamua. Given a mean free path of ly in the solar
neighborhood, \textquoteleft Oumuamua has likely spent a very long time in the

Temperature dependence of the superconducting gap anisotropy in BiSrCaCuO
We present the first detailed data of the momentum-resolved, temperature
dependence of the superconducting gap of ,
complemented by similar data on the intensity of the photoemission
superconducting condensate spectral area. The gap anisotropy between the
and directions increases markedly with increasing
temperature, contrary to what happens for conventional anisotropic-gap
superconductors such as lead. Specifically, the size of the superconducting gap
along the direction decreases to values indistinguishable from zero
at temperatures for which the gap retains virtually full value along the

Localization Effects in Bi2Sr2Ca(Cu,Co)2O8+y High Temperature Superconductors
Doping Bi2Sr2Ca1Cu2O8+y with Co causes a superconductor-insulator transition.
We study correlations between changes in the electrical resistivity RHOab(T)
and the electronic bandstructure using identical single crystalline samples.
For undoped samples the resistivity is linear in temperature and has a
vanishing residual resistivity. In angle resolved photoemission these samples
show dispersing band-like states. Co-doping decreases TC and causes and
increase in the residual resistivity. Above a threshold Co-concentration the
resistivity is metallic (drab/dT >0) at room temperature, turns insulating
below a characteristic temperature Tmin and becomes super- conducting at even
lower temperature. These changes in the resistivity correlate with the
disappearance of the dispersing band-like states in angle resolved
photoemission. We show that Anderson localization caused by the impurity
potential of the doped Co-atoms provides a consistent explanation of all
experimental features. Therefore the TC reduction in 3d-metal doped high-
temperature superconductors is not caused by Abrikosov Gor'kov pair- breaking
but by spatial localization of the carriers. The observed suppression of TC
indicates that the system is in the homogenous limit of the
superconductor-insulator transition. The coexistance of insulating (dRHOab/dT
<0) normal state behavior and super- conductivity indicates that the
superconducting ground state is formed out of spatially almost localized

A laser probe <sup>40</sup>Ar /<sup>39</sup>Ar and INAA investigation of four Apollo granulitic breccias
Infrared laser probe 40Ar/39Ar geochronology, instrumental neutron activation analysis (INAA) and analytical electron microscopy have been performed on four 0.5 x 1.0 x 0.3 cm polished rock tiles of Apollo 16 and 17 granulitic breccias (60035, 77017, 78155, and 79215). Pyroxene thermometry indicates that these samples were re-equilibrated and underwent peak metamorphic sub-solidus recrystallization at
1000 – 1100°C, which resulted in homogeneous mineral compositions and granoblastic textures.
40Ar/39Ar data from this study reveal that three samples (60035, 77017, and 78155) have peak metamorphic ages of ~4.1 Ga. Sample 79215 has a peak metamorphic age of 3.9 Ga, which may be related to Serenitatis basin formation. All four samples contain moderately high concentrations of meteoritic siderophiles. Enhanced siderophile contents in three of the samples provide evidence for projectile
contamination of their target lithologies occurring prior to peak metamorphism.
Post-peak metamorphism, low-temperature (<300ºC) events caused the partial resetting of argon in the two finer-grained granulites (60035 and 77017). These later events did not alter the mineralogy or texture of the rocks, but caused minor brecciation and the partial release of argon from plagioclase. Interpretation of the low-temperature data indicates partial resetting of the argon systematics to as young as 3.2 Ga for 60035 and 2.3 Ga for 77017. Cosmic ray exposure ages range from 6.4 to ~339 Ma.
Our results increase the amount of high-precision data available for the granulitic breccias and lunar highlands crustal samples. The results demonstrate the survival of pre-Nectarian material on the lunar surface and document the effects of contact metamorphic and impact processes during the pre-Nectarian Epoch, as well as the low-temperature partial resetting of ages by smaller impact events after 3.9 Ga.
The mineralogy and chemical composition of these rocks, as well as exhumation constraints, indicate that the source of heat for metamorphism was within kilometres of the surface via burial beneath impact melt sheets or hot ejecta blankets
